Week 9 - very much hoping this is our last fortnight!

I really, really hope that this will be our last two weeks of all the various restrictions of lockdown. Even though it's looking unlikely

So for us, only two more weeks!

Here's the spreadsheet, as usual

Two more weeks left, so a good amount of time to still shed some unwanted pounds.

Possibly also a time to be specifically even more strict, given that it's the last two weeks?!

To be fair, I don't really have much of a sweet tooth (and after low carbing for a few years sugary things taste quite unpleasant) so it's not really a feat of willpower to miss out on a pudding or cake. The savoury snacks and booze are a different matter...

Really beautiful!

Random789 · 07/06/2021 13:53

lololol 'lavvy seat', prettybird. The consistency of the base looks not unlike my microwaved 'cakes' of almond flour, egg and cream cheese or yoghurt or cream, so I'd guess a low-carb lavvy seat was definitely on the cards.
Venus your account of the various sensble compromises you made on holiday is very helpful fr me because I know I won't be able to sustain a very purist approach for ever and I need to learn how to be relaxed and positive about 'good enough' eating.
It sounds like you managed the challenges really well. I had assumed that sailing would be so intense that it really wouldn't matter what you ate -- it would all be burned away with high-endurance activity. But that's prob because my idea of sailing is a bit vague Grin and too much influenced by Moby Dick etc. I can imagine that th elow step-count gets frustrating. So glad that you had some good sunny weather in among the gales!

I've followed your suggestion, BIWI and bought some magnesium supplements to help with my muscle cramps. I was a bit taken aback by how relatively low in magnesium a low-carb diet is at risk of becoming, since grains and legumes are among the richer sources. Almonds are a great source, but I'd be wary of eating them in the quantities needed to ensure an adequate intake.

BestIsWest · 07/06/2021 14:02

@Random789 I use a magnesium spray as I think it’s supposed to be absorbed better that way. Really helps with the cramps. Stings a bit though.
I’ve got another version that is more of a cream with a lavender smell that helps with sleep too.

venusandmars · 07/06/2021 14:12

@BestIsWest can you give a link to the magnesium and lavender cream?

MotherBuckets · 07/06/2021 14:17

@Ifeelmuchlessfat I see your 7lb and raise you 9lb ShockConfusedBlush

That's 1lb for each day off the wagon and my entire bootcamp weightloss back on. FFS. I know lots of it is temporary though so necking water like mad for the next few days. Thankfully my official weigh in day is Friday...

BestIsWest · 07/06/2021 14:29

@venusandmars

This is the spray magnesium oil and this is the cream/lotion lotion

Ifeelmuchlessfat · 07/06/2021 15:21

@MotherBuckets let’s see who loses 7 lbs first ... introducing an element of competition might help? Grin

WestIsBest21 · 07/06/2021 15:24

Hiya, how do I join low carb boot camp, please? Saw blob picture of me at family gathering on Sunday... I’ve started keto today.
Really determined to make this work for me as I've piled on enough weight over lockdown to go from “she’s a big girl” to “put that woman on embarrassing bodies”.

Anyway, hoping I’m in the right place. Looking for some support. Never low carb’d before but have dieted successfully in the past, as I am strong like ox.

pangolinfan · 07/06/2021 15:33

Love your photos venusandmars :it's a part of the world very dear to my heart (and gale force winds aside, it looks as if you had at least some good weather too - by Hebridean standards)!
Any good wildlife spots - eagles, dolphins, otters?? Well done on the sterling efforts to keep on track. I am sure they are lovely but it is hard to think of a sterner test for your resolve than being in unavoidable close quarters with loads of carbs AND three potentially judgy doctors for a week.

TheHoover · 07/06/2021 17:07

Gorgeous gorgeous pics venus. And massive kudos to your holiday approach. I am trying to develop a holiday mindset for my week at center parcs later this month. Holidays have always always always been my downfall.
Oh and also summer (boozing). And eating out. Hmm

STS this week and deservedly so; I’ve managed to repair transgressions a little too easily in past weeks which was making me far too casual. Kick up the jacksy fully appreciated and back on strict BC (after tonight’s wedding anniversary meal out which will be low carb but will not be dry Grin)

BIWI · 07/06/2021 17:09

@WestIsBest21 welcome!

Go the spreadsheet (which is linked to in my OP) and have a read of the rules, (look at the tabs at the bottom) and then just jump right in.

Amazing pics Venus -looks & sounds a wonderful experience if a bit scary at times with Gale force winds. I think you did really well with your eating - very sensible. Weird isn’t explaining to people this WOE - I always feel like I’d need all the facts to hand. Prob wouldn’t take on a medic though even if I did have all lchf facts.

I’m weighing in later this week - sneaky peek this morning shows I’m up 1lb. I’m really maintaining but like others really want to drop a few more lbs to give me some leaway. Finding being more social, birthday celebrations & this lovely sunshine are luring me to a few more carbs/wine so I’m hovering at the same weight.

Going camping on the weekend so need to be good to allow for flexibility around the campfire.

Midlifemission · 07/06/2021 17:27

Slinking back in after a weeks holiday in Brecon Beacons with a 4lb gain.

Am slightly relieved to see I am not the only one with a Half term holiday gain!
@venusandmars your trip looks stunning and you are a paragon of virtue for doing so well with a 2lb gain. It looks like you did really well with your choices.
We had a wonderful sunny week away and I feel like I have had a proper holiday. We really wanted a break from the cooking and clearing up so I can't complain at the scales as although I managed to avoid the chips with everything that made up most of the menus we ate out for 7 days and I drank far too much wine.

I am back on it now though for the last two weeks - I will try to shift these 4 lbs and then I am back to maintenance mode so am interested to read other people's experiences of starting that new challenge. I couldn't wait to get back to my 'normal ' (I.e low carb ) way of eating today so that's a good sign.

B boiled eggs in butter
L tuna and avocado salad
D low carb chilli with cauliflower rice and soured cream

Midlifemission · 07/06/2021 17:29

Welcome to Bootcamp @BestIsWest .
I can promise you will soon see amazing results if you join this brilliant bunch on here !
I was in a terrible state after lockdown one and am now 3.5 stone lighter ( slightly glossing over last weeks gain !) I am a low carber for life now.

BestIsWest · 07/06/2021 17:45

@Midlifemission No it’s @WestIsBest21 who has just joined Grin.

I’ve been here since week one (and did it a few years back).

Welcome @westIsBest21 are you in Wales by any chance? I wanted to be Westisbest but someone already had the name.

FusionChefGeoff · 07/06/2021 18:04

Bloody hell have I been on the wrong threads for the past 2 weeks it's been so quiet and now it's gone nuts again abs replying is a full time
Job!!

Will be back later to check in properly.

Midlifemission · 07/06/2021 18:06

@BestIsWest so sorry I am easily confused and just grabbed the wrong tag !

Welcome @WestIsBest21 Smile

cheeseisthebest · 07/06/2021 18:25

Welcome new person!
Good day today. Nothing until 12.30 when I had courgette, mint and feta salad with black olives, mushed advocado and olive oil and lemon juice.
About to have salmon fillets with asparagus, spinach leeks in boursin.
2 creamy coffees, one tea, only 2 pints of water though so far.

Random789 · 07/06/2021 19:20

I've lost about 2lb this week, which I'm pleased about.

Could I ask if any of you have walked Sharp Edge in the Lake District? I've booked for a guided walk this coming weekend on a different route (Bowfell and Esk Pike). But that may not reach the minimum numbers to go ahead, and the organisation I've booked with has suggeted Sharp Edge and Blencathra as an alternative.

I'm a bit wary of anything too exposed and scrambly, although I have done Striding Edge. Does nyone have any views about Sharp Edge?

ElasticFirecracker · 07/06/2021 20:39

Today's food
Breakfast: forgot to have it

lunch: 2 poached eggs, Parma ham, asparagus.

Dinner. Thai Beef curry aubergine and green beans.
Strawberries & cream

Not quite enough water yet.

Linnet · 07/06/2021 20:43

Hi, I haven’t posted for a few weeks now, but thought I’d check in. Now I’m back at work life is busy and hectic again.

I seem to have stalled, but since I started boot camp last year at the end of May I have lost 13lbs! Ok so it’s taken me a year and there have been ups and downs but I’m quite happy with what I’ve lost.

I’m going to keep going, with the hopes of losing another stone as I know I can do it if I’m really strict with myself. There have been a few birthdays lately which I think have contributed to the stalling. But I plan to keep going.

WestIsBest21 · 07/06/2021 21:47

@BIWI thanks Smile

@Midlifemission, thanks for the welcome. How confusing!! I think I might have to do a name change if I’m going to be a regular here. Poor old @BestIsWest!

I’m not quite from Wales. Set the username just after we moved into a new house in the very western part of my town where we get gorgeous sunsets and like to chirrup “west is best”
