Week 4 - Five Week Low Carb Bootcamp - bring on the berries!

BIWI · 11/08/2014 14:11

Afternoon!

Many apologies for the lack of new thread. My broadband has died at home, and I've been a bit snowed under at work. I have to confess that I totally forgot to start the new chat thread Blush

Anyway, Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and hopefully it's the right link this week! (Thanks Sayra Grin)

Or, don't forget the Weight Tracker

So these two weeks you can, if you wish, move to Bootcamp Light, which means essentially that you can introduce some fruit (berries only, and only in moderation), along with a few nuts to snack on (again, in moderation).

Also bear in mind that weeks 3 and 4 are difficult weeks and that you may not see any or much weight loss. Keep on keeping on and you will be fine. It's your body adjusting to the new regime.

Today was

B - peanuts Blush

L- Cheesestring

D - Wings, a couple of ribs and stilton and leel stuffed mushrooms.

Just wanted to recommend a fab cookbook I bought to help me back on the bandwagon. It's called Hemsley - the art of eating well. It has a few bean and fruit recipes but the vast majority are bootcamp friendly. I made broccoli fritters with avocado dip for lunch and it was gorgeous! Some good breakfast recipes too, as well as courgette, cauli mash etc.

Firsttimer7259 · 12/08/2014 18:38

I made cheese crisps today - v nice esp second batch which I let get properLynn Brown so now crispy delish

SayraT · 12/08/2014 20:53

Cheese crisps are good first Grin yummy

Well done trashy

Sorry ready I am too late to comment on menu or places to eat, hope you enjoyed the Tattoo, I love the Tattoo but not going this year. Fingers crossed in stayed dry for you.

loom once we are onto BC lite we can have some nuts i.e. a small handful occasionally, not whole bags every day! It can be useful to be able to have nuts, as you've found out, they can be good for making 'pastry' and other sweet things.

Rode my friends pony tonight while she is away on holiday, it was very strange because I am not used to riding ponies, I felt really tall! I am sure that I will get used to it and by the end of the week I will prefer ponies to horses Grin

What I want to know is how some people can eat shit and be slim?! We had a student in today who had chips, a white roll (no filling), a chocolate muffin, a crunchie and a packet of crisps for her lunch today. She was only about a size 6/8. How?!

B: Bacon, coffee with cream
L: Chicken breast, salad
D: Chicken and cheese omelette

ponygirlcurtis · 12/08/2014 22:02

Evening everyone. Weighed myself this morning - another 2.5lbs off, which means I've broken the half-stone barrier (plus a wee cheeky half-pound). Pleased with that.

Thanks for the tips on breakfasts, they all sound good and doable. Going shopping after work tomorrow so will stock up on some individual greek yoghurts I think.

BIWI how do I know if I'm keto-adapted? I've been eating kind of lower carb for a while before this out of natural choice, often having no carbs with lunch and/or evening meal. And I have not had time for anything all day, barring my water, two cups of tea and some raw mushrooms - just from being so busy with starting my new job and then trying to sort the kids out. Just had dinner about 15 minutes ago. But genuinely not been massively hungry.

pregnantpause · 12/08/2014 22:19

Evening all. Well done on the losses - I'm back to what I was before the cream tea failure week.

B- spinach, ham and a poached egg
S-cheese board with radishes
L- chicken soup wuh mushrooms and oak choi
D- lamb chops with cauliflower rice

I also had three dark chocolate covered pineapple chunks- handed out at work they were tiny so I thought it's not that different to a square of dark choc-it isConfused 18g carb. What was I thinking?!

My overall carbs are still low ( then again I'm counting with mfp which I'm sure is wildly out sometimes!)but will do better tomorrow

readyforno2 · 13/08/2014 07:35

Thanks Sayra, the tattoo was amazing.
There was a wee boy next to us who was about 7, he sat brilliantly the whole time and it was freezing.

We were the weird people who told his dad that he should be so proud of him, and that he was a real credit to the family.
Think I'm going to take ds1 next year. Think he would love it!

I ended up having the vegetable satay (nuts are ok aren't they?) with salad instead of rice but unfortunately it had loads of celery so wasn't as nice as it could have been.

Livelongandprosper · 13/08/2014 14:59

Checking in. Sticking to the plan after last week's holiday failure. Felt dreadful Monday and Tuesday (headaches, feeling nauseous) but feeling much better today.

BIWI Have you found a dress yet???

Pisseslikeahorse · 13/08/2014 15:47

Just back from Blackberry picking with the kids. I think every sugary snack should come with an obligatory stabbing, lacerations, bleeding, 3 mile hike and finish with ice-cream in your hair. Smile
Got to name it 'Pisses bramble jelly'

good day but still picking at things, need to nip that one on the bud (no pun intended).
B. 140g greek yogurt
L. Bacon Avocado salad
D. Pork chop Cauliflower

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 13/08/2014 18:09

Had salami and cheese for breakfast and have had lots of water, having a grillsteak for dinner.

Bought my bike today too and went on a 4.5 mile trip, had to walk up a couple of very steep hills but I'll get there, also walked a hilly route with the buggy to Aldi. Loads of energy on LC.

Going to try and make cheese crisps for my guacamole, any tips?

loombands · 13/08/2014 18:10

MY FRIEND HAS BROUGHT ME A BIG BAR OF CHOCOLATE..

..because i haven't been very well

what can i do? Please stop me from eating it

wombat22 · 13/08/2014 18:39

Step away from the chocolate loombands Not long now till the end of bootcamp and you can have a little treat then. Try have a couple of glasses of water to take the urge away Grin

Livelongandprosper · 13/08/2014 19:01

loom Don't do it!!! What wombat said - drink some water, go and do something in another room. Don't do it!!!!

You didn't do it, did you?

loombands · 13/08/2014 19:20

i went out. i went to lidl and bought olives and blue cheese and cream and coffee. Im going to have a little munch-up on that. And drink lots of water

But I KNOW the chocolate is in the cupboard

I joined bootcamp very late...ive only been doing it since Sunday Grin there is no hope, is they?!

loombands · 13/08/2014 19:21

Anyway...so, what happens after boot-camp? is this a long term way of eating? I think I read about ongterm...in the spreadsheet, possibly?

you have a carb day every 10 days, is that right?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 13/08/2014 19:57

I go to the gym in the morning(ish) and breakfast does not agree with me (scrambled eggs with chorizoor bacon), unless it's sth very light like a boiled egg.

pregnantpause · 13/08/2014 20:03

I don't know what happens after bootcamp , but this is definitely a way of life eating, for me at least. Understanding the benefits in health of low carbing has meant I don't want to go back. What's more I am changing what my children eat so they don't grow up horribly addicted to sugar/ gluten/ carbs like we all are- well wereWink. (Not dieting them at all, but pasta isn't a daily option for them any more, nor is bread/ rice/ cake/ squash. Etc)

Anyway today has been something of milestone for me- I ate out for the first time low carb-

B- coffee cream
A- slice if chorizo
L- a mixed grill in a pub where I asked for extra mushrooms in place of chips. Not a morsel of non bootcamp approved food passed my lips. I'm incredibly full and incredibly proud of myself. Grin though I did have a half of diet coke- my dad would not have got me water, he would have bought me wine if I'd asked for water as he'd automatically think I'd asked for water due to low funds. Blush

I'll have another coffee cream before bed and I think I'm done for the day Smile

loombands · 13/08/2014 20:14

pregnant i agree. Even after only 3 days, I can see how unnecessary all those carbs are. Im really doing this to put a stop to my ridiculous cake/chocolate addiction.

I have been suprised at how un-deprived and fulli feel. BUT I really dont want to never eat cake again!!! I LOVE chocolate and I LOVE cake. I dont want to be addicted to it, and have no self-control like previously. But I definitely want to eat it again, in moderation

BIWI · 13/08/2014 21:59

ponygirl - if you've been eating low carb for a sustained period of time, then you should be. But it depends what you mean by 'lower' carb! The reason for the strict two weeks of Bootcamp is to ensure that you really do force your body into fat burning.

Livelong - yes I have a dress! And some 'hold it all in' underwear too! Blush, as well as massively high heels, and a new bag. I stopped short at a hat!

miffy49 · 13/08/2014 22:07

Stick it out loombands. You will find that when you do decide to have a bit of cake in a few weeks time you will be satisfied with lots less. I never thought I'd ever see the day when I would be satisfied with just a square of chocolate or a few spoons of pudding but I do find the sweetness quite nauseating now. I still wonder at how I used to be able to pack away huge bars of chocolate. You will realise how much is addiction and habit rather than actual enjoyment.

loombands · 13/08/2014 22:19

Cream in coffee is great!!

i always had mine black. But i saw lots of youse having cream and thought i would try it

proper shut down my chocolate craving! Smile

loombands · 13/08/2014 22:20

miffy i hope i get to that stage too Smile

pregnantpause · 13/08/2014 22:37

Oh yes loom- coffee with cream is like a dessert IMO - I love it.

Marshy · 13/08/2014 23:10

White wine has been consumed tonight. Apart from that I have been very good since Monday. There are extenuating circumstances which I won't bore you with... but life is a bit shite atm...

BIWI · 14/08/2014 06:43

Sorry to hear that Marshy Flowers
