Week 4 - Five Week Low Carb Bootcamp - bring on the berries!

BIWI · 11/08/2014 14:11

Afternoon!

Many apologies for the lack of new thread. My broadband has died at home, and I've been a bit snowed under at work. I have to confess that I totally forgot to start the new chat thread Blush

Anyway, Here is the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness and hopefully it's the right link this week! (Thanks Sayra Grin)

Or, don't forget the Weight Tracker

So these two weeks you can, if you wish, move to Bootcamp Light, which means essentially that you can introduce some fruit (berries only, and only in moderation), along with a few nuts to snack on (again, in moderation).

Also bear in mind that weeks 3 and 4 are difficult weeks and that you may not see any or much weight loss. Keep on keeping on and you will be fine. It's your body adjusting to the new regime.

Firsttimer7259 · 16/08/2014 07:41

Ugh - friend came over, led to wine crisps and chocolate - not the dark kind. Lovely night but feel crapola this morning.
Next time low cal g+t needs to be the plan. Stomach gurgling horribly

BestIsWest · 16/08/2014 09:15

Ha ha Miffy, bloody auto correct. Mind you it was so tough it gave my jaws a good workout.

miffy49 · 16/08/2014 11:59

We get some good laughs out of auto correct Best so don't knock it! Grin You've done it now though, I was trawling through the veg bin and thought, "hmm, shall I have sporting broccoli later or maybe an athletic cauli!" Hate it when its tough though. Maybe it had been too sporting! I got some from Aldi and you could boil it till the tops fell off and the stalks were still like twigs. Having some cod later so I've settled on asparagus. Going to make some fresh hollandaise and dunk it. I do love the luxury of LC!

BestIsWest · 16/08/2014 14:01

Can I come for tea Miffy? That's 3 of my favourite things.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 16/08/2014 15:09

BIWI Can you give me some suggestions for foods that are okay to eat with really severe toothache? I am starving but so sore and being on AF is making me really hungry too, I'm starting to get down and existing atm on Atkins yogurt and coffee shakes and I know that's not good.

miffy49 · 16/08/2014 16:54

Awww Shro! What about stuff like scrambled eggs or Greek yoghurt with some cream. Even mashed up boiled eggs with butter. If you don't feel too wiped out a home-made soup is comforting. Cream of mushroom or cauli and broccoli. They don't take much making. You can stir a bit of crumbled cheese into them or a swirl of cream to make them more satisfying.

I find the big problem in times of bad pain is that we tend to revert to childhood and want the things we were given as treats when we were ill as kids. Hope it soon calms down.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 16/08/2014 17:13

I have found a tin of pretty low carb chicken soup in the cupboard, can't face making my own, also have an ill toddler on the couch and a baby with a cold and a temper Hmm. You're right about reverting to what we used to have, I am eyeing up the sugar free haribo and telling myself not to.

Don't know if I can face eggs after the egg fast but will maybe have egg in a cup. Will send DP for Greek yogurt. Good suggestions, thanks. x

StuntNun · 16/08/2014 20:18

I have low carb barbecue spare ribs in the slow cooker for later and the smell is driving me mad!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 16/08/2014 20:32

God, I could murder bbq spare ribs! That sounds lovely.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/08/2014 20:51

Wtf? Garlic has 33g if carbs in 100g? Shock

Is it iff the list?

I'm on my phone, canNt read the spreadsheet.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 16/08/2014 21:41

100g would be quite a lot of garlic though, wouldn't it?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 16/08/2014 22:11

But still. I buy crushed garlic and it said their cube was 6.6g.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 16/08/2014 22:13

6.6g isn't too much if it's going in to a meal with more than one portion really, is it? I buy garlic cheese and I think it's 3. something per 100g. I could not live without garlic!

miffy49 · 16/08/2014 23:32

Like Schro says, if its in a cube its going to be intended to feed more than one. I buy crushed garlic but its a paste in a jar. Are the cubes like stock cubes? if so it could have some sort of grain based carrier added which would add to the carbs.

Its unlikely anyone would over eat on garlic but you do have to take a bit of care with things like leeks and onions as they can mount up the carbs. OK in a casserole etc but best to avoid things like whole, baked onions on BC.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 16/08/2014 23:57

I've just had pulled pork (almond) pizza since the codeine kicked in. And another Atkins bar. Blush Need to stop this habit and feel it's only going to be worse once I am at college, in a rush and struggling for ideas...

I just use garlic butter in everything, I hadn't actually thought to check the carb count!

questions2008 · 17/08/2014 15:43

Just checking in to say if anyone is having "issues" with going to the toilet, dulcolax has worked a treat for me.

Still going strong here, even with a few days away visiting my cousin, and scales moving in the right direction. Have now lost 6.5kgs in 6 weeks and lcing has become 2nd nature, ie it feels quite effortless and not having to fight cravings or hunger.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 17/08/2014 15:57

Feeling very ill today and now have swollen tonsils, have managed a tiny bit of an Atkins shake with added double cream to up the fat, will try some cauli and cheese but don't think I'll manage it.

BIWI · 17/08/2014 16:20

Schro - sorry I missed you post - I was away at a wedding yesterday. Sorry to hear you're so poorly Sad

If you're not feeling hungry don't force yourself to eat, but make sure you're keeping up your fluid intake.

How about making yourself some soup? Nice, comforting and easy on the teeth/throat.

OP posts:
SchroSawMargeryDaw · 17/08/2014 16:29

It's okay BIWI :)

I have a can of chicken soup, I can't manage the cauli. :( I think I'm going to try it later but have been drinking a lot to try and make up for it. I have a carton of almond milk as well now so might try putting some sf syrup in it and having that, the Atkins shake is disgusting, even with cream in it. Envy

Hope you enjoyed the wedding?

BIWI · 17/08/2014 16:37

Oh yes - very much! I shall draw a veil over the food and wine consumption!

miffy49 · 17/08/2014 16:46

I went to one earlier in the week but it was a Church-style buffet so I was glad of my emergency net of BabyBel! Everything had a good dose of gluten so no temptations there! No booze either. Didn't know whether to laugh or cry at that one! Grin Unfortunately the long journey has set my fibro flaring so I have spent the rest of the week struggling to stay on track. Might be lucky to maintain this week.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 17/08/2014 16:47

Glad you enjoyed it, I hope the weather was nice for it :) Food and wine is just a small blip, it's only a day! We have a holiday next month and I'm sure there will be plenty there too.

I'm stuck in the bathroom hiding from the kids feeling sick and whoozy from the codeine. Don't think there will be soup for me tonight, looking forward to bed!

BIWI · 18/08/2014 07:25

Week 5 chat thread here

Sorry for sparseness of the OP - broadband still isn't fixed properly and keeps dropping off, so can't risk trying to post something long and then losing it.

Good luck for this week everyone!
