Hi there, have recently split with my partner and am in need of a break! I would like to go somewhere abroad, possibly Sardinia with my DS who will turn 3 in June. Any suggestions would be great please. Budget - well the cheaper the better! Thanks

TiredBunny · 10/04/2005 09:19

I am in North Yorkshire..... Blackpool has a beach though it was too cold when I went. I am skint now so no more hols i dont think unless they do free adult places aswell!!!

honeypot01 · 10/04/2005 17:46

Definately Louise! are u up for it? Feel i need a break by the summer! How old r your children? i have a 3 yr old son and live in north london

TheVillageIdiot · 11/04/2005 09:10

Hey - can I come? I have 1 dd will be 3 at the end of June.

Actually I think I've said that in this thread already . I'de be up for arranging meeting other single parents somewhere for a break, would certainly be nice to have that bit of adult company

Louise1980 · 11/04/2005 10:50

I have 2 boys 4 and 2n half. Both handfulls!

I live in north east england

Louise1980 · 11/04/2005 10:53

I couldnt organise a pee-up in a brweery so if some1 else can I will be up for it.

As long as its not term time, Im at uni.

wigglewiggle · 11/04/2005 11:09

I have to say.. do not go to disneyland Paris... it is just a big shop/fast food outlet with only very few rides. I have only been to the parc part only not to the studios as my dd is only 2. but honestly, the princess castle was just a tour of the castle with pictures to illustrate the story and big shop at the bottom, the same was for aladdin and so on. legoland offered so much more activities for children. mine was not interested at just looking at disneys pictures. she just liked the freedom of running around. paris was a lot better, there were some palygrounds but more for adults as it is more about the architecures and culture (museums etc)

I also suggest Gingerbread for ideas. if you join you get vouchers.

However, this year being my first time on holidays by myslef and 2y old dd I am choosing the easiest and safest option, so I hope. I am going to Butlins and I cannot wait. Never been there but I like the vicinity and the fact that everything is there. I want to just get somewhere and not having to think too much.

honeypot01 · 11/04/2005 12:46

Villageidiot, i feel bad calling you that!! he he!

I'd definately like to meet some of you single parents on here, want to def go away this yr, be nice if some other single parents could come too!

TheVillageIdiot · 11/04/2005 13:28

Without wanting to take over I don't mind organising if nobody else wants to. If you all post a message that says where you are, roughly how much you can afford and how long you would like the break to be. We can try and work out a middle of the road break.

Also would people prefer abroad or England?

honeypot01 · 11/04/2005 13:41

villageidiot! u can arrange it, be my guest!

Def count me in, im looking 1 or 2 weeks, preferably abroad, i want a decent tan! Be nice have a little group going, would be fun!

Louise1980 · 11/04/2005 15:50

I will be there with bells on as long as i can afford it! Funds are tight as we have just moved house.

Janna · 11/04/2005 16:22

hello
I would prefer this country to be honest although I wouldn't rule out abroad as long as it's not too hot ( I got vitiligo and I burn terribly in the sun)
i'm from North wales and I got a ds who's 5 and a dd who's 2. I'm on a tight budget too. I'm happy just to get away for a few days (or more lol)

TheVillageIdiot · 11/04/2005 17:07

Well lets say a week then. We can decide uk or abroad at a later date.

So if all who want to come can give me the following info

  1. Does it have to be in school holidays or will anytime do?
  2. Is there any specific week you can't make due to unchangeable commitments?
  3. What is your 'middle of the road' budget for travel & accomodation. Not maximum budget as obviously there will have to be some flexibility as peopel will be travelling from different places etc
  4. How many children are there (+ yourself)
  5. Do you want to go in the next few weeks/month or would you prefer to go in the summer/autumn?

So my answers are:

  1. I can go pretty much anytime as dd is not at school yet
  2. I can go anytime as I have nothing that is unchanegable at the moment (other than a party on the 22nd April)
  3. I'm not to fussed about budget so I can be fairly flexible with this and fit in with everyone else
  4. Me and dd (age 2yrs 9months currently)
  5. I can really go anytime although if we decide UK I'd like to wait til the weathers slightly warmer.

There I've started the ball rolling

honeypot01 · 11/04/2005 21:48

hi, my ans are:

  1. can do pretty much anytime as son isnt at school yet.

  2. im away weekend of 25th June to Brighton, but other than that think ok.

  3. Would prefer something which isnt too expensive but see what comes up.

  4. myself and my son who is 3 1/2 yrs old.

  5. I would prefer to go in the summer mths, give me sometime to get some dosh together! As yourself if in UK go when i bit warmer.

Good work villageidiot!

pinkmamma · 12/04/2005 07:29

Hi there
Could you put me down as a maybe? Me and ds who will be 3 in June.

  1. Anytime, as not at school yet
  2. His birthday is 11 June so would prefer to be at home for this
  3. Budget - hmm can be flexible really, does £600/700 sound reasonable?
  4. Me (er over 30! ) and ds now 2 and 10 months
  5. TBH I had thought about going in June as weather should be good and it is before the big crowds and price hikes in July/August. My DS starts school in Sept. But of course I am only a maybe so whenever you decide to go i will work around.

Anyone seen the Skytours summer brochure, I mentioned it before but quite a few of their hotels have single parent family offers on.

Janna · 12/04/2005 10:51

hiya yeah I'm still interested!
My ds is in school so hols would be better BUT will probably be able to get permission from the school to take him out.

Can't make Aug 4th or the 16th Aug or Oct 14th

I got 2 kids and will be travelling from North Wales.

Don't mind when we go really and budget wise well middle of the road for me really.

getting excited now!!

TheVillageIdiot · 12/04/2005 11:00

I've just been browsing the web for ideas and rough prices and I stumbled across this page

Have a look and see if there's anything that takes your fancy. I got interrupted mid-flow so didn't get a proper look.

Abroad mid Juns time looks like it would cost roughly £400 for flight and accommadation. Although we'd all be flying from different airports so might be trickier to organise

Louise1980 · 12/04/2005 11:28

My sister has booked up to take me n kids to blackpool for a week in october. Shes paying for accomodation but I need spending money.

If you organise something and post it I will see if I can stretch to both.

21st July is definatly out tho as its my Graduation ceremony!

Yipeeee

honeypot01 · 12/04/2005 11:28

i know the Thomson Skytours brochure have special offer on for single parents and free child places too. Might pop down to get copy.
