That's it, I am trying to find out what government help there is for a lone father and child.

Just thought we'd point you in the direction of our Family Money guide. There's a page with information on work and benefits for lone parents. Please take a look.
It's also worth checking out an organisation called Gingerbread - it's a charity which supports single parent families and can give you all the information you need about benefits, tax credits and universal credit. They have a page on support for single dads too.
