So who is up for a mumsnet Christmas meal? Possibly not to the same place that tried to fleece us last year! the only dates i cant do are the 10th and the 17th Dec (what a packed social life i have!)

I have no ideas in terms of where to go - i had a lovely meal at Gastro17whatever down East Hill, but it may be a bit pricey at £26 each (not inc drinks) here theres the lemon tree here similar price, erm, where else? We could do indian again - the Maharani is the best in colchester IMHO - or open to any suggestions.

What does everyone think?
jingle bells jingle bells jingle all the way...

Woo! Hello from me, can I come or have I been banned for no-showing ? I can do the 12th too... wherever is fine

Norma, if you like, you can come to me first and I can direct wherever (p.s that also means can I have a lift????) Love you xxxxx

Be lovely to see you all, thank you Pooter for posting this on my fb wall xx

pooter · 30/11/2009 20:31

poo - zizzi's cant accommodate over 6 people on the 12th, and we have at least 7. any other venues?

OP posts:
pooter · 30/11/2009 20:33

ooh jently cool!- that makes 8! they deffo cant fit us in then. Any ideas?

OP posts:
Mung · 01/12/2009 12:48

Chez moi? I dont mind cooking for us all if someone else does dessert / starter / chocolates / wine! I can't offer such posh food or 5 courses, but it will be friendly, laid back and service with a smile!

Otherwise, I am open to other offers.

NormaSknockers · 01/12/2009 13:24

I'm not sure of many places in Colchester as tend to stay this end - something like The Lemon Tree any good?

pooter · 01/12/2009 16:37

Someone said the Lemon Tree wasnt that good Norma. Ive eaten there a couple of times over the years - has been ok.

Mung - that is a very kind offer. Im not sure we should impose on you like that though. (i do a very nice winter salad with red cabbage, carrots, apple, cannalloni beans and dried apricots though which i could bring though - tastes bloody gorgeous if i do say so myself!)

Any opinions/restaurant suggestions/specialities people could bring to the crazy lady's mungs?

OP posts:
NormaSknockers · 01/12/2009 17:27

Ah, have never been there myself just know of it - hubby's having his Xmas meal at the Rose & Crown on East Hill, supposed to very nice would that be worth a try?

Where abouts are you Mung, I have in my mind that it's quite a trek for me from here but not sure if I have that right?

pooter · 01/12/2009 17:43

HAve no idea about the rose and crown here its expensive though - £34 each not including any drinks.

Mung is two miles out of colchester (but just off the A12 - dead easy to get to)

NormaSknockers · 01/12/2009 18:44

Now I know why DHs do is on a Tuesday

Hhhmmm the only other place that I know of is The Cube but I think that's pretty pricey too, well that & Pizza Express. I'm only just finding my feet getting about as I didn't pay attention as a passenger I can get to Asda & the Zoo & that's about it Had to drive to the Rose & Crown today with DH in the car so I knew where the heck I had to pick the drunken lush him up from after his do!

Mung · 01/12/2009 19:57

I'd say its just as easy to get to mine from Frinton as it is to get into town, as I am just off the A12, near Marks Tey station.

I have read lots of bad reviews about the Lemon Tree...thats what has put me off. I'm trying to think of some more 'out of town' places...but I have no inspiration just yet.

I don't mind hosting...honest. I just understand that some people would rather 'go out' than stay in, which is fine by me too.

SparklyPrincess · 01/12/2009 22:45

Don't mind what we do - in or out is fine (as long as I haven't got to chase the chickens into their house I'm good

'Out'-wise ... Prezzo Culver St East) is very similar to Zizzi, or Ask, Strada (North Hill). Whatever Quilters is now (ate at a sister-restaurant which was nice in Nayland). Noodle Bar. Don't know of any out of town places that aren't out Hadleigh way, I'm afraid. Or Thai (Thai One and Thai Dragon on East Hill are both good).

If we're going to Mung's I'm bagsying pudding

pooter · 02/12/2009 09:23

how about that tapas place on north hill? La Tasca - thats the place. Actually scrub that - the veggie options on the xmas menu are dreadful.

Strada looks ok - their £18 menu looks fine. only one veggie thing - mushroom risotto with white wine - would you eat that Mung? I would - all the alcohol would be evaporated anyway i think.

oh its too complicated!

ooh that Thai Dragon place is v nice!

someone make a decision!

OP posts:
Mung · 02/12/2009 09:25

Strada is fine by me...I'd eat mushroom risotto. I'd rather avoid the noodle bar...don't really enjoy their veggie options.

Shall we say try Strada and then if they can't do it you can come help put the chickens in and eat at mine?

lucyfer2000 · 02/12/2009 10:31

Hiya i'll agree with all of the above! Try Strada and then take up Mungs very kind offer of hosting it at hers. It is likely that there might be a problem booking on a saturday night now at such short notice.

i'll happily make some nibbly starter things if we go to mungs.
xx

SparklyPrincess · 02/12/2009 14:13

Yep, I'm cool with that. I like Strada. (Even though it took the place of the Brasserie which was better ... ahh, the olden days...)

Mung · 03/12/2009 16:47

Pooter have you given up on us?

NormaSknockers · 04/12/2009 09:39

I'm a maybe now - DH has just been given the thumbs up for his station move & I'm not sure what's happening with his shifts!

pooter · 04/12/2009 10:09

Hiya - Strada is getting back to me today to tell me if we can go on the 12th.

soz for the wait - have had kitchen dilemmas.

Hope you can still come Norma

OP posts:
pooter · 04/12/2009 14:28

Hiya
WE ARE IN!! Strada at 7pm on the 12th of Dec. I have booked for 8 people - hope that's right!

Hope to see you all there

OP posts:
NormaSknockers · 04/12/2009 14:55

Sounds fab! Just got to wait to see if DHs shifts are affected by the move
