do you do a twin discount like Jump please?

FourArms · 06/01/2010 20:38

I went to Drakes Den on the day it opened. Feedback:

Coffee OK, and cheaper than Jump, but latte machine broken. Was too cold, but they say they're struggling to get the heating system right, and hope to sort this soon. DS1 (5.5) and DS2 (3.5) both enjoyed it. Much smaller than Jump. Ideal for 0-6 I think. Not challenging enough for much older ones. Much better than Jump for 3-4 year olds who have outgrown the baby room, but are intimidated by the size of the other section. More sensible menu, with more reasonable prices. Would be a nice place for a meet up.

No idea about twin discounts though Oooggs.

We had ds3's 5th birthday party there last week. It was excellent. Staff very helpful and very friendly. Had ds2's 6th birthday party at Jump and preferred Drake's Den. Had a couple of non replies for example but they were fine about me confirming those later. Plenty of food. Paul who runs it is very helpful and friendly. I'd really recommend. They're cheaper than Jump as well.

Warmer than when I went in shortly after opening.

They were very, very good with my older (10) severely autistic son. And it's good for kids with SN because you can see all through the play structure so you could get away with not having to shadow on the play equipment (which I have to do with him at Jump).

I was going to take the younger 2 yesterday but ds1's school was shut so we couldn't go. But I will go with them again soon.

FourArms · 06/01/2010 21:03

Hia fellow-Plymouth person!

DS1's school was one of the few not closed... I was v.disappointed! I'm going to try and organise a meet-up at Drake's Den shortly if you're interested? Details are just opposite on the Mumsnetter meetups section.

PavlovtheCat · 07/01/2010 12:25

i went there too, and I am going back today. Admittdely it was 2 for 1 when i went, and had a bunch of kids with me, but it was good for dd who is 3years old. The food is typical of these places, not much healthy for the kids, but they do beans on toast so thats ok for a snack.

Anyway, its good enough for coffee to want to meet with some lovely MN'ers such as FourArms and Ooggs and fran and all the others who will want to come.

FourArms has done a meetup thingy with a date of Monday 25th Jan to meet here, but I am not sure how to link it. Will try to find out, and maybe FourArms can do it in the meantime.

TheFoosa · 07/01/2010 12:54

I don't like Jump, it is always filthy

the food is awful as well

Bear Feet in Newton Abbott if great, but probably not so good for bigger children

may give this new one a go

oooggs · 07/01/2010 14:11

fourarms hello - name changes confuse me

I am there, well will be and will have 3 little ones under 3 [mad]

PavlovtheCat · 07/01/2010 18:18

theFoosa went to this one this afternoon. Heating still not sorted, but got a free coffee as they are aware and trying to sort it. Should be done by the time we go.

I took the opportunity of asking about group discounts. He said he is open to discussion, he and his wife do not have a set discount, they will just discuss with us at come to some arrangement with us depending on day/number.

FourArms · 07/01/2010 18:30

Meet-up thread on local here and on MN talk here

FourArms · 07/01/2010 18:32

Thanks for asking about potential discounts Pavlov. TheFoosa - this place is brand new so much cleaner, haven't tried food yet.

PavlovtheCat · 07/01/2010 22:22

I like it. They have party rooms with disco lights/balls and long tables for the kids!!!

TheFoosa · 09/01/2010 17:35

we went today, it was FREEZING and no free drink

food is ok, not a vegetable in sight though

dd LOVED it

will probably go again

PavlovtheCat · 10/01/2010 12:07

theFoosa yes, no vegetables AT ALL! I was quite at that but made a point that i would not buy food there, or if DD has had a healthy lunch, perhaps some chips to share as a treat. I shall take my own vegetables .

So they still have not sorted the heating? That really is not very good in this weather! All great for the kids running around, but not good for us adults sitting around, or any little ones who are not so active. Did you say anything? Was the owner there? It was him giving the free drinks last time. I am sure they would accommodate by giving drinks/refund if we complain...shows they are taking it seriously.

Apart from the cold and the lack of vegetables, not a bad place at all i think...

PavlovtheCat · 10/01/2010 12:09

theFoosa are you going to come to our meetup there? You should! How old is your DD. I have a 3.5year old DD.

TheFoosa · 10/01/2010 14:42

will be working so no, plus like to maintain an air of mystery

it was chaotic, had to wait an hour for food

other people were complaining about the temp so I didn't bother

PavlovtheCat · 10/01/2010 15:08

you don't have reveal yourself...wear a namebadge with 'thefoosa' on instead! or don't tell us who you are, just sidle up to us and start talking about fruitshoots! i am flexible on days so if others can do better days than mondays so can i...

FourArms · 12/01/2010 20:08

I'm flexible too if another day of the week suits you better.

PavlovtheCat · 12/01/2010 22:43

There are not many of us confessing to living here are there FourArms? .

Claire2009 · 12/01/2010 22:46

Going to check where abouts it actually is, will be up for a meet-up, I have Ds 2.8yo and DD 3.11yo.

PavlovtheCat · 12/01/2010 23:00

It is right by the wrigleys factory, you come off the large roundabout and its right off it. Estover? Is that the area? Oh YEY you have a girl similar age to DD (3.5)!

Claire2009 · 12/01/2010 23:09

I have no idea where that is! Will find it though, tues all day/weds afternoon & weekends is best for us

PavlovtheCat · 12/01/2010 23:14

You know Asda? Near there!

Claire2009 · 12/01/2010 23:24

Ah! Yep, know where that is!

FourArms · 13/01/2010 09:41

It's easy enough to find if you know where ASDA is, you just keeping going up that steep hill, and virtually straight across at the roundabout at the top.

There is another MNetter on the meetup thread here who can't do Mondays either, so if we can find a better day, then we could swap round.

oooggs · 13/01/2010 19:51

I'm set for that 25th Monday - let me know if you change as that is the only day I can do
