So, who's been?

I have been once on my own in the morning, when it was blissfully quiet and I was in heaven, all the books are new, you heck the books out yourself, hardly anyone was there...

And then, my second trip, today after shool with DS, it is heaving (mostly with his shoolmates) I am still there (thankfully brought my laptop) DS is buried in a Horrid Henry book and there are kids all around.

It is very exciting!

If you haven't been yet, go!!

I am surprised that there are not more MNers from Cambridge.

Haven't ventured there yet as cannot bear the trip to town with 2 under-3s in tow but will hopefully get the chance to see it all soon.

My colleague was very impressed with it, she went on Tuesday.

There are LOADS of MNers from Cambridge, have no fear. Maybe they don't do libraries

Shamster · 02/10/2009 18:42

I went yesterday with my son (two and a half). Looks lovely except for the migrane inducing lights. Liked it lots, although my son liked climbing the train mre and running rtound like a fool. Already managed to lose his card...

Claire2301 · 02/10/2009 22:33

I'm heading into the grand arcade tomorrow(for my sins) so will perhaps pop in and check it out, however if it looks busy I'll leave that for another day!

Waves from South Cambridge

thegrowlygus · 03/10/2009 07:09

waving back

Good luck at the Grand Arcade today - you are very brave. although we should probably go as it is Grandad's birthday tomorrow and we haven't got him a present yet. The prospect of a new library may entice DH to go though...

coolma · 03/10/2009 13:32

I really want to go - it's just finding the time! What are the opening hours anyone know?

futurity · 03/10/2009 13:52

www.cambridgeshire.gov.uk/leisure/libraries/directory/cambridge_central_library.htm - opening times!

Dh and I went yesterday without kids as they are both at full time school...it was very nice and shiney and new! bet it is heaving today!

coolma · 03/10/2009 14:03

ooh thanks - too lazy to look them up

cbmum · 03/10/2009 14:06

not been yet but will do next week - a shame it's opening just as I'm off back to work though. No excuse to not go as we live in central Cambridge - just keep forgetting it's there in the Grand Arcade after so long waiting!

Penthesileia · 03/10/2009 15:33

Hurrah!

Took long enough, huh? I've been in shock, TBH, at how long the Cambridge City Council thought it was appropriate to leave the city without a central library.

NorkilyChallenged · 03/10/2009 15:53

I was thinking the same Penthesileia. Actually, the main library closed while I was still ttc and had no children.... I now have two toddlers

coolma · 03/10/2009 16:50

I've been making do with cherry hinton and rock road, but there are only so many times one can stare at the same books!

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 03/10/2009 17:21

can't wait to go, am really hoping that the story time is on a wednesday, though I can't find details on line.

Claire2301 · 03/10/2009 18:46

Well... I tried to get into town at 4pm.. gridlock! So my trip to the new library is going to have to wait until (most likely!) after Xmas. Looks like it's still Cherry Hinton for me I have a few chick lit-y books if anyone wants them? Happy to post for free.

Dorothy Koomson - marshmellows for breakfast
Kate Long - Queen Mum
Kirsty Scott - Mothers Day
Cecelia Ahern - Where Rainbows End.

Thought I would mention, if not will pop to book shop in Fulbourn next weekend.

ChasingSquirrels · 03/10/2009 19:00

try making do with the library van! Not that I would go into Cambridge for the library, usually just use the van, but sometimes go into Burwell or Newmarket.
DS1 tends to order stuff in for the van - loves having specific books there for him.

overmydeadbody · 04/10/2009 15:42

I read every fiction book apart form mills and boon in Milton Road library, their selection was so small, I am soooo glad the central library is open again!

Anthough, I was hoping to pop in today after collecting DS from his beaver sleepover at 10am, but we got there to find it doesn't open till noon on a sunday!

How disappointing

Claire Cambridge is heaving at the moment, all the students are coming back!

What are those chic lit books like?

OP posts:
Claire2301 · 04/10/2009 16:48

I enjoyed them all - have read Marshmellows for breakfast twice. Have taken two bag loads to local book shop and now clearing out the dregs, am a really bad hoarder. Thought I'd mention it on here in case anyone fancied any of them, happy to drop off or post out free.

It is absolutely heaving! We've made the most of the good weather today and taken two little boys who's Mum is due the third any day now over to Linton. Walked down to the stream, fed the ducks and had a paddle- was lovely.

coolma · 04/10/2009 19:51

we've been in saffron walden today - went via linton!

Claire2301 · 04/10/2009 21:59

I'm a little bit freaked... we fed the ducks, paddled, then went for a coffee in starbucks in saffron walden about 3:30! (I needed the caffeine haven been chased by some VERY hungry geese.

overmydeadbody · 05/10/2009 09:43

Heyt Claire, I'd be interested in MArshmallows for Breakfast, I'm always looking for new material to read! Don't suppose a drop off is possible if you don't come into cambridge much, you sure you don't mind posting for free?

I work in Cambridge every day so just depends where you are, but happy to post. Email is clairemichelle23 at hotmail dot co dot uk

Poledra · 05/10/2009 10:05

Would love to go to the new library, but don't get into Cambridge enough. You want to try making do with a LAP - the volunteers are lovely, but somewhat vague st times. DD1 was dead keen to fo the library quest this summer, but the volunteers had no idea what she was supposed to do

overmydeadbody · 05/10/2009 11:01

Claire have emailed you!

I went last week and managed to get in on Monday when they were doing a kind of practice opening, about 4 staff members per visitor I really like it, the new cafe is considerably better than the old one and the arrangement seems much better, much more floor space. Am just ticked off that it hadn't been open sooner, I dread to think how much I've spent on coffee over the last 10 months while being in town with a baby who needed a BF...

oh and NorkilyChallenged - I'm in Cambridge and a librarian to boot...
