no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/07/2009 11:11

Hi, not sure where to post but I am just outside of Sheffield.
Wondered if anyone could tell recommend any suitable places to go things to do with under 1 and toddler, as close to train station as possible.
Thanks
sorry if posted in wrong place.

Katz · 08/07/2009 11:40

sheffield train station? if yes then just up is the winter gardens and millenium galleries, both nice places to visit, also on a hot day the peace garden fountains are fab for children to play in - just remember their cossies and towels.

Hulababy · 08/07/2009 12:27

Not heard about 1st prize have you?

OP posts:
no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/07/2009 12:48

katz thank you for that. Meant to say it would be for a meet up destination, would this be suitable for under 1's, changing facilities, somewhere to eat, and somewhere for dc's to crawl about safely?

hulababy no, sorry for ignorance what is the competition?

Hulababy · 08/07/2009 12:53

There is a new monthly local site competition on MN, which Sheffield won last ymonth - and possibly this month too As linked to in original post.

no1putsbabyinthecorner - how many of there are you? What type of thing do you want to be doing? Inside or out?

OP posts:
no1putsbabyinthecorner · 08/07/2009 19:59

That's great, I will have a look.

I think there will be 4 of us. 4 with 10month olds, and me with a 2.4 year old too.
Depends on weather as to what we do, I am just struggling to come up with anything that isn't to far for people getting to Sheffield by train.
Thanks

Katz · 08/07/2009 21:17

Do you want to eat? or just let the children run free?

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 09/07/2009 19:59

Both

Katz · 11/07/2009 08:10

trying to think of an all weather place, one option would be to jump on a tram from the station and then get off at the Sheffield University stop and go to the Weston Park Musuem, its a great musuem for children, has a cafe or an inside picnic area and if the weather's good then you can let the children run around in the park, which is a green space park not a swings and slides park.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 11/07/2009 19:17

Thanks so much, I was thinking of that one too. I havnt been for year's and I only live in Rotherham
Thanks so much for helping me out.

Hulababy · 11/07/2009 19:22

Western Park Museum would be great and not far on the tram. If nice you could eat in the park. There is a cafe inside the museum, and also a picnic area upstairs.

have you been in the museum since it was renovated? It is aimed at children primarily and really hands on and interactive.

OP posts:
Katz · 11/07/2009 19:23

the museum is now fab - it had a re-fit last year and is great.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 11/07/2009 19:26

wow no I havn't been for ooh at least 10 yr. That was probably with college or uni.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 11/07/2009 19:27

Does it have car park. I will be driving.
Is it far to tram stop from train station?

Hulababy · 11/07/2009 19:33

No car park at the museum. There is on road parking round and about the area but it can get very busy as near the hospitals. I will have a think.

The tram stop is the University roundabout and you catch the tram either at Meadowhall (the swap in town_ or outside the train station - go to back entrance of station.

The museum is a 5 minute walk from trm stop.

Hi thanks I have just found website. I will probably be better leaving car at meadowhall or something. My car goes on autopilot there.
Not that I go much, honest.

Hulababy · 11/07/2009 19:42

lol!

The museum really is fab and the park outside has loads of room for the children to run/crawl about in. If older toddlers you can also walk through Western Park, to the end gate and go intot he park next door where there is a playground as well.

Katz · 11/07/2009 19:44

should have given hula the credit for suggesting the musuem in the first place!

We go all the time as dd2 loves building creatures using the computer programme although they never last very long.

Opposite the musuem is a Starbucks too so good for coffee in the park.

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 11/07/2009 19:45

Thank you both so much, if the meetup doesn't take off I will be going anyway.
