What about a book group?

I just came back from Aus and on the plane watched "The Jane Austen Book Club" (whilst not trying to ensure DD did not annoy every single passenger, and that the DTs did not eat too much chocolate out of their "childrens meals").

The women in the book group had a ball drinking wine, eating nibble, oh and talking about books as well. As I have finally managed to get a bit of time to read again, I wondered if anyone else might be interested in doing a book group type thingy - i.e. one of you picks a book, you all have to read it (in say, a month?) and then you all get together and talk about it.......as well as drinking copious amounts of wine and eating nibbles.

Betty are yout here, surely you would be interested!!???

HarrogateMum · 08/09/2008 12:18

very impressive!

Gateau · 09/09/2008 09:12

Really enjoying the book, girls. Feeling very said for Leiws, though. Nearly cried on the train this morning.

yorkiegal · 09/09/2008 10:27

What's the book you are reading at the moment

Gateau · 09/09/2008 10:33

It's called 'The Outcast' by Sadie Jones.

bettythebuilder · 09/09/2008 12:23

yes, I've read it (pleased with myself emoticon) so I have a copy if anyone wants to borrow it before the 22nd!

dook · 19/09/2008 13:00

Saturn74 · 23/09/2008 17:27

Glad last night went well; I'm sad that I couldn't make it.
I'm on holiday for the next meeting, so hope to make the one after that.

MadreInglese · 13/10/2008 13:17

Sorry HM, forgot to come back and check this thread. Yes I liked the Outcast, just felt so sorry for Lewis and was totally expecting a miserable ending so it was quite a surprise when I read the last few pages

Hoping to make next Monday but it clashes with a blardy PTA quiz night (which I could really do without) so am trying to get out of that one!

bettythebuilder · 18/10/2008 20:27

Is anyone else hating the book! I cant stand it and think I am unlikely to finish it!

OP posts:
bettythebuilder · 22/11/2008 16:29

I've managed to finish the book, but can't say I enjoyed it (understatement )

Gateau · 24/11/2008 10:33

I have a love/hate relationship with it. I particularly HATE the snooker bits and tend to skip over them. But at times I can also get really into the book. Have another 20 pages to go.

bettythebuilder · 01/12/2008 10:04

Tonight's the night, everyone!

Hm, is it 8pm at yours?

HarktheHarrogateMumissinging · 02/12/2008 10:24

Thanks to all who came last night!

Next book club - 8pm The Old Bell Monday 15th January. Book for discussion Starter for Ten by David Nicholls.

Bettythebuilder is going to pick the one after that so we can see if we like the horses/thriller/sex genre!!
