Hello.
My husband has been offered a job in Edinburgh and we have spent 4 days here trying to look at affordable places to live for families that are in an easy commutable distance of the university.
I work as a nurse too so so looking for areas that might offer some job opportunities for myself.
My have 2 kids age 6 and 3 so need good schools.
Even after 4 days here we are no closer to finding reputable family friendly areas.
We have a top budget of around 375k to buy and seem to be totally out priced here.
If we cant afford to live as a family on Edinburgh or easy distance we will have to turn the job offer down.
Can anyone give me some ideas of good areas? Smile

2 X 6 years of high school fees is £156k not £375k and is over the next 15 years not now.

If they are a double income professional couple (sounds like it from the OP) they won't have ft childcare costs in the next couple of years so probably will have extra disposable income for fees.

Also if they are looking at a £375k house budget either DH earns £70k + or they have a lot of equity already. Add in her nurses salary of c. £30k and potential pay increases over the next 15 years they are definitely in the private school bracket.

It's not only millionaires who go you know. (25% in Edinburgh)

The kids are 6 and 3- so not 2x 6 years. 2x at least 11/12 years

This has just come on OP and I think it's fab. You could take down the wall between the kitchen and sitting room to give you a fantastic kitchen diner. The office is bit enough for a third bedroom - if you need an office it can go in the box room. Park literally over the road, near to great restaurants etc. Tonnes of space and great storage - you could actually knock the box/dressing room and cupboards into one to make a bigger bedroom if you could find a way to bring light in. It's a great flat.

The location of the flat is handy for commuting, there is cycle way all the way to the western general hospital. Infirmary can be a bit of a pain to get to though due to traffic and never ending roadworks. Great transport links for town and soon to be a tram. The downside is the school catchment which might be a bit different to what op was hoping for. Out of catchment places aren't impossible though though getting harder every year.
