Relocating to County Durham

I'd like to hear from anyone interested in moving to County Durham. If I could sum up the lifestyle in Bishop Auckland County Durham, for me anyway, from corporate to country - I have the best of both worlds. Travelling for my job and retreating home to don my wellies and Barbour. It's a semi-rural community with teashops, history and so some fab period properties. You get a lot more for your money up here. I'd love to here from anyone thinking of relocating for a change of lifestyle, who's looking for a 3 bed period property, near neighbours to historical Auckland Castle.

Bishop High Street has died the absolute death though and is bloody depressing to walk through although I concede that there are a couple of interesting ones down Bondgate

Agree that there are some cracking houses

Cheers Gatekeeper. For me, life in Bishop isn't really about shopping.

nor me but it is for a lot of people- plethora of art galleries but missing a greengrocer, butcher etc. Not just Bishop but practically everywhere now sadly . Barney still good though Smile

I love to look up at the shop roofs when I go to Bishop as there as some beauties...lovely windows, chimney pots etc.

Agree. Ha, we popped along to Barney this morning! Looks great in all seasons. In Bishop we use the local farm for meat and veg - Broom Mill Farm. www.broommillfarm.co.uk/ do you know it?
On the way back called into the farm to placed the Xmas turkey & venison and ham order with Tracy.
Housing market is very slow all over at the minute. Sick of putting my life on hold because of something I have no control over. Really want to share all the great stuff we have to offer in County Durham, Bishop Auckland and near by Barnard Castle with anyone who might be thinking about relocating, downsizing or wants to buy a house and lifestyle in this lovely art of the world.

agreed- I lived in London for some years but nothing brought me the same joy as coming 'home' on the train from Kings Cross and seeing Durham Cathedral...made me well up every time

Yes I've bought meat from Broom Hill farm before- used to be a great place over at Trimdon - Dropswell Farm. that dry cured it's own bacon that was sublime- but no longer sell to the public

I think you might need to set up a website singing the praises of SW Durham and Teesdale etc- count me in if you do Grin

I don't live in Bishop but was born and bred in Spenny- worked in 'Bish' for many years though Smile and am old enough to remember Doggarts and shopping for shoes in Macintyres when I was a nipper
