Secondary schools for dd

Anyone have any experience of secondary schools in south Liverpool? Was looking at holly lodge but reviews on line suggest bullying is a huge issue. Have done open evenings everywhere in a 4 mile radius, but would like to know others experience.

We're in south Liverpool and doing the same. What year is your daughter in now?

Just started y6. We looked round before summer, and plan to take a second look now. Is there anywhere you've heard good things about?

We've viewed loads but with some of them the application forms had to be in before now for banding tests. My daughter is yr6 too.

We liked Belvedere (but applications had to be in before now), Bellerive and Broughton Hall which are all girl's schools. St.Hildas was nice too, that's mixed school. We're going to St.Julies open evening this Thursday.

There's also St.Edwards but I wasn't too keen on that although other people really like it. Are you of any particular faith as that can make a big difference with applications?

Oh, I've also heard good things about Archbishop Blanch.

No faith, so that does make things harder for some. Didn't like archbishop blanch as I have a bit of a hang up about spelling and the English teacher had spelt some of her spelling quiz and plenty of displays wrong on open evening 🤔

Haven't looked at broughton hall, will have a look

We really liked Broughton Hall and it was our daughters favourite but it would be a pain to get too from where we live!

Archbishop Blanch is a very good school, you must attend a Protestant church weekly to get a place, too late for exam.
St Hildas is goid academically but poor pastorally.
St Julie's is not a very good school, Holly Lodge is terrible.
Belvedere and Liverpool college are excellent, however too late for exam now.

Any thoughts on st Francis of Assisi? Dodgy area, but looks good?

I was at belvedere for 2 years when i was younger (2008-2009) and was bullied terribly the whole time i was there so i left and attended auckland college for my year 11 and sixth form. Lots could of changed now though as it was years ago.. always colours my view though even if time has passed!

Also, my friends daughter currently attends broughton hall and loves it. Shes in yr 7 and has settled in really well x

I would avoid St Francis of Assisi.

2 of my nieces attend Broughton Hall.
One is my brothers dd who is Catholic and the other is my sil's dd who isn't but got a place. They're year 8 and 9 respectively and both absolutely love the school.

My youngest niece has SN and is being catered for wonderfully, the support is fantastic and she is throwing herself into school life but at primary school was quite withdrawn.

My older niece is academically very bright and is being pushed to excel but in a very positive way. She learns Spanish and also has geography and history lessons in Spanish which she says is difficult but she loves it.

Both very different girls with very different needs but are both thriving, happy and receiving a great education.
My own dd is only 6 and I've no doubt she will go there too.

The 61 bus stops right outside which I beleive comes from south Liverpool and the school has girls from all over.

HowMany St Francis is in a very deprived area. Many of the students will have social
issues and behaviour problems.

And many of them won't!

My ds goes to a school in a very nice area, mixed school, big posh houses nearby and there are still plenty of dc with social issues and behaviour problems.

It's fair to assume that being In a less than desirable area brings these problems but the reality is that most schools have the same issues regardless of their location.

Loveis no my friend used to be that head at that particular school.
Of course there are schools in deprived areas where the pupils do very well.
Unfortunately in St Francis they are many pupils with very difficult home lives and that impacts greatly on both their learning and the other pupils.

Marvel- was this recently? Just wondering if it's still likely to be that way. Can you or your friend recommend any good schools not to far away?

I would definitely recommend St Edwards but as you know it's mixed.

I know Archbishop Blanch has a very good name but is dependant on church attendance I think.

Schools are a bloody minefield :)

How many there were the head some years ago but it is still not a good school.
Schools I would recommend are
Blue Coats
Liverpool College
Belvedere
Archbishop Blanch
St Hildas ( although not great pastorally)
St Edwards
Broughton Hall
King David ( boys)
St Margaret's ( boys)

I wouldn't send my dc to any other Liverpool Schools.
