We've been living in Epsom for the last cpl of years . Very poor experience of Epsom Hospital. If you need to use a hospital which ones have the better reputations please.

Depends on the service(s) you need. However, as an indication, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) give all Trusts an overall rating. Epsom & St Helier currently hold 'requires improvement'. This applies individually to Epsom and St Helier hospitals as well as the Trust overall.

The Royal Surrey (Guildford), Ashford and St Peters (St Peter's Hospital, Chersey) and Surrey and Sussex (East Surrey Hospital, Redhill) are all rated good. That's second to outstanding but still quite hard to achieve. I have good personal experiences of Royal Surrey and St Peter's.

Those are the closest I can think of to you. Google the hospital name and CQC and you'll get lots of info. You can then drill down into services and see patient feedback etc.

OhTheRoses · 21/08/2017 21:36

That's very helpful. Thank you. Oddly the reviews for Epsom are astonishingly good and don't stack with ours or our neighbours experiences at all.

I've just remembered Frimley Park. Not sure how, because they are rated outstanding!

I've got no personal experience of the Trust though.

MelvinThePenguin · 21/08/2017 21:46

Not sure how I forgot I mean...

MelvinThePenguin · 21/08/2017 22:00

Have a look at Friends and Family Test data to compare hospitals in terms of patient feedback. Here's a link to the latest:

Thanks. So pretty much anywhere in Surrey is better than Epsom by the look of it. It's extraordinary that local people aren't making a fuss about it.

OP posts:
MelvinThePenguin · 21/08/2017 22:20

There is a lot of history with Epsom and plans for reconfiguration. The community are very protective of their hospital.

OhTheRoses · 21/08/2017 22:24

I can't think why. From what I've seen it needs to be shut down. No membership my family is going there again if I can help it A&E staff were both incompetent and rude. Twice.

OP posts:
MelvinThePenguin · 21/08/2017 22:30

That's really unfortunate. I know a lot of people who work all over the NHS and they are generally amazing, despite being exhausted.

Hope you have a better experience next time you need the NHS.

OhTheRoses · 21/08/2017 22:58

It's been pretty grim since we moved from London. I'm really surprised at how poor it is in Surrey. Are you in the NHS?

OP posts:
MelvinThePenguin · 22/08/2017 11:49

I have been. I maintain a keen interest and will probably go back one day.

SuburbanRhonda · 22/08/2017 21:15

Which other hospitals in Surrey do you have experience of, OP?

I'm local to Ashford and St Peter's and can't fault the care my family has received there over the past 15 years.

NickMyLipple · 22/08/2017 21:21

You are close to Kingston too - not sure how it compares there?

OhTheRoses · 22/08/2017 22:02

Our old hospitals were Chelsea & Westminster, Kingston and St George's. We could go there for A&E but the CCG doesn't have contracts with them and not much use for dd's mild mh issues. For all St George's rough edges I don't think we ever experienced the same levels of rudeness and sheer incompetence as at Epsom.

I don't have experience of the other Surrey Hospitals hence the question. However I don't believe any has such a damning report from the CQC as Epsom.

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 22/08/2017 22:43

The reason I asked which other Surrey hospitals you have experience of is because you posted this:

I'm really surprised at how poor it is in Surrey.

OhTheRoses · 22/08/2017 23:37

Point taken. I see what you mean. Since we moved to Surrey healthcare has been poor would have been more accurate.

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 23/08/2017 10:20

Or "our experiences at Epsom Hospital have been poor".

OhTheRoses · 23/08/2017 10:48

It's been far broader than that Suburban. But hey It's more constructive to pick holes in a pedantic way than to provide anything helpful I guess. GP care has been poor CAMHS/SABP have been poor and the GP, SABP, Epsom Hospital and the CCG have all blamed each other for poor standards. Rather broader than you seem to have decided actually.

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 23/08/2017 11:02

All at Epsom Hospital though, according your your OP? So not really broader than that.

By all means take a pop at the services you received in one hospital, but tarring all Surrey hospitals with the same brush isn't constructive at all.

SuburbanRhonda · 23/08/2017 11:04

And I did provide something helpful - I shared my experience of Ashford and St Peter's based on my own experience, just like your comments about Epsom.

EvansOvalPies · 23/08/2017 16:57

We, too are local to St Peter's and Ashford. Most of our care there (speaking generally as a family over a period of about 30 years) has been absolutely wonderful. I've also been a patient at the Royal Surrey in Guildford following an accident, my daughter was taken to St Helier's in Epsom after a serious road traffic accident. Care in both those hospitals was just great. I agree, some staff members can occasionally be a bit off-hand, and I didn't have a wonderful birth experience with my DD, but I also understand it is an incredibly demanding job (I have friends and family in the nursing profession).

Generally speaking, the NHS all over the nation is wonderful. And you cannot castigate the entire county of Surrey regarding hospitals based upon one or two unfortunate experiences. These happen all over the UK, and cannot be helped.

OhTheRoses · 23/08/2017 22:14

I don't think I've castigated all of Surrey. I have tried to find out which hospitals are better than Epsom in Surrey because bases on personal experience I haven't found Epsom Hospital to operate at acceptable standards.

Healthier some of my family haven't had a great two years. They would I believe have been better on London.

Similarly I am happy to say we have found Ashtead Hospital superb but St Anthony's lacking. We could walk away easily from St Anthony's. Not so easy to walk away from a MH issue even if you can pay if services are not prepared to recommend/refer privately.

Thank you for advice.

OP posts:
EvansOvalPies · 24/08/2017 11:06

I don't think I've castigated all of Surrey

Well, you did actually It's been pretty grim since we moved from London. I'm really surprised at how poor it is in Surrey

Anyway, I really do hope you find the care you need. Smile Flowers

OhTheRoses · 24/08/2017 11:08

Well it has been pretty grim and I don't think services improve if one pretends otherwise.

OP posts:
SuburbanRhonda · 24/08/2017 11:31

Nobody's suggesting you pretend anything.

Just be clear you're speaking about one hospital and one family's experience, not the whole of Surrey, as you previously posted.
