Best area to live around Glasgow

Hello! I'm living in Kingswells near Aberdeen the past 12 years and is time to move! Me and my husband are setting a business in Glasgow city center. We have 3 boys age 12,9 and 2. We would like to live in a quiet area where the kids could play outside and make lots of friends in the area. Right now the boys play outside ride their bikes in a really safe environment and the schools are really good. I would like to keep the same standards or better good schools nursery,primary and secondary school, good GPS and hospitals and a safe area. I heard about east refrenshire but the price of the properties are too high.Any other schools with good reputation and a nice area to live. Not to far from the city center between 20 to 30 minutes drive? Thank you very much but I fell absolutely lost when is time to choose where to live when you have no clue about an area.

Kirkintilloch would probably be slightly cheaper, almost as good.

Torrance is a lovely wee village beside Kirkintilloch/ bishopbriggs, you should have a look. About 20 minutes drive to city centre of Glasgow. Good luck 😉

Are new properties developments in this areas?

There is new development in Bearsden. Cala homes. Sorry I don't have a link but the development is called Kilmardinny Grange. Pricey though. Some homes are already occupied.

Also worth considering would be Westerton. Cheaper part of Bearsden -catchment for Boclair secondary school which is good, though not as highly rated as Bearsden Academy and Douglas Academy in Milngavie.
A lot of westerton is handier for the centre of Glasgow than most of Bearsden and Milngavie.

IME Bearsden Academy is particularly good if your DC are very academically able. Possibly less so for less academic pupils.

Douglas Academy has the advantage of being slightly smaller and set right on the edge of the countryside. It has a small specialist music school attached. The music school pupils also play with the whole school music groups. As you can imagine, the standard of music is very high. It has had a recent change of headteacher. Apparently he was very highly regarded at his previous school.Torrance is in the catchment area for Douglas. So are the villages of Baldernock and Balmore.

Both Douglas and Bearsden have many many extracurricular clubs such as debating, sports teams, engineering groups etc which often hold their own in tournaments with fee-paying schools,

Boclair Academy is reputed to have very good music staff too. I don't know much about the rest of the school.

Aww your welcome! There is a village primary school but when the kids are ready for secondary a school a bus leaves the village to nearby boclair academy, there are new builds just being put up across the road from the village. It was fields until a couple of years ago but definitely houses now.

Some parts of East Kilbride are lovely, I don't know anywhere specific there except for the big shopping mall which is excellent!

I didn't find any houses for sale in Torrance ☺️! I used rightmove but I will keep checking other websites

It seems harder to find properties to rent in this area! 😩

Ladies again another complicated question! Why some houses that look amazing are so cheap compare where I live in aberdeen and others are so expensive? Are the houses in rough areas ?but it looks really good!!

House prices are dictated by school catchments so if you are in Lenzie/ Bearsden/ milngavie catchment you will pay much more than for a similar house in Kirkintilloch for example. You can put placing requests in for schools but no guarantee you get a place.
What's your budget and must haves? This will help us give you ideas.

Thank you Scotlass, we are looking around 315k for a 4 bedrooms detached houses but maybe go for a 3 bedrooms if the catchment area for schools are better.

I get that the impression that in Bearsden/Milngavie and maybe lots of other areas there seems to be a huge premium for 4 bed properties. The streets around where I live in Bearsden, eg have mostly 3 bed homes + a few 2 beds and a few 4 beds.

3 beds (mostly semis) in this street have sold for @£250/260K recently. 4 beds are valued at approx. £310.

I think the league tables are published once a year in a newspaper but can't remember which one sorry.
The school really depends on what you are looking for, academic /sports and how happy your children would be there
