Winsford - Cheshire

Hi, I am relocating my family from Devon to Winsford, Cheshire in the New Year and would love to hear people's views on my big move.I have read mixed reviews with some being dreadful?!?I have 2 young boys and would love to hear about local schools and youth activities.Thanks everyone and Merry Christmas!!

It's a part of Cheshire I'm not really familiar with. Hopefully someone will be along soon who knows more Smile

There are many many more areas that are nicer than Winsford. What are you looking for?

I would not live there for free! I know the area really well. I would home Ed rather than send my kids to the academy too ....

All sounds very negative!I am about to purchase a house next to Knights Grange (Lytham Drive) any thoughts?!?I really appreciate your feedback!Any positives at all in Winsford as I thought the place was undergoing a complete revamp?!?

I too am familiar with the area and would not choose to raise my children there. Particularly because of the schools, and the town centre is awful. Very depressing. Have you looked at Northwich and other local towns?

Yeah, looked at a few properties but the one in particular that we liked was in Winsford. Next to Knights Grange.I am under the impression that like most places there are good and bad parts?!?Your comments are very much appreciated.Still undecided!!

Don't do it. There are better parts but ultimately most people would not choose to bring their children up there. I teach lots of children from all over the area. Lots of poverty and negativity - even the kids hate living in Winsford. Even the better schools have very high PP pupils. It is a dying token imho. With all the money and new estates in Northeich Winsford is withering away. There are lots of new estates being built all over ... look further. Northwich has great schools and a choice of excellent high schools. PM me with any questions

Oh dear, I assume these weren't the responses you were looking for OP. What's prompting the move? Is it for work? Does it have to be Winsford?

Ha ha no not really what I was after.I am in the forces and need to settle the family down.Lived in some good/rough areas over the years and thought Cheshire would be perfect.I realise that Winsford not perfect hense the cheaper properties but people making it out to be the worst place to live in the UK!!I don't mind having to drive for leisure but my family need a safe place to live and grow up.I thought they were revamping the area and investing in the area?!?

There are some very poor parts to Cheshire and winsford is one of them. Yes it's undergoing a revamp but if you have kids that are school age and concerned about what school they go to I would suggest looking at towns off the Chester Road. I don't think the revamp is going to have too much of an impact long term unfortunately.

Have you tried looking at towns in the south of the county like Sandbach, Nantwich, Alsager and Holmes Chapel all of which have excellent schools.

Homes in these towns will be cheaper than some other towns in Cheshire, like Knutsford and Wilmslow and if yiu look, you can find some bargains.

Winsford is not the best area, there are far nicer places in Cheshire. I definitely would not choose to raise my family there, sorry not what you were hoping to hear.

I was raised in Cheshire and eventually settled here to raise my child. The only area I would not raise. In is Winsford

Not the responses you wanted, no, but just honest ones I'm afraid. I agree south of the county has some nice options, Sandbach would be a good location.

I agree with the pp - it's unlikely a 'revamp' is going to make much difference, it needs way more than that.

Another good thing about South of the county is excellent transport links. Agree with Blueberry on Sandbach plus it's easy access to the M6 and trains direct to Manchester. Look up the 2 high schools in Sandbach too Xmas Smile

There is a shortage of housing and I think the dregs of Manchester were moved to Winsford because they had space.

Cheshire is lovely , but not Winsford. The property may be nice but it's location, location, location. Sorry.
