C25K buddy?

BikeRider33 · 25/03/2013 17:15

Is anyone interested in starting the C25K running thing with me after the Easter holidays? I really need to do something but lack motivation to do things alone and don't really know anyone to ask to start it with me.

I'm nearing 50 and way too heavy but know once I get started I will feel so much better. I'm looking to do this while the children are at school (and make sure there is no chance of having to do school run in sports kits!). I live near Addenbrookes, but could cycle (or even drive) to a suitable place to jog.

If you are interested we could meet somewhere central to start with (like a cafe with cake - this is why I need to run!) so you can see I really am an overweight, unfit middle aged woman!

yay!!! Go us Grin

Shells · 23/04/2013 18:35

Yes, I've done a couple of fairly pathetic ones but feel like the aching bit is done now. Onwards!

mynameisnt · 23/04/2013 18:56

just about to do my next one..

BikeRider33 · 24/04/2013 16:23

I did run 2 today. Think I was faster than last time (but not by much!)

I'm getting worse. Is this normal? Mind you I'm not following the rules properly. Might need to start again from square 1

mynameisnt · 24/04/2013 16:38

You have to follow the rules Grin I am in lots of leg pain today to be honest but did find it slightly easier yesterday. Glad to be having a two break though as I don't think I could physically run today!

mynameisnt · 26/04/2013 12:02

That was really good ( now I'm home!) Have put peas on knees and they feel a bit better. So cross I couldn't finish :(

BikeRider33 · 26/04/2013 16:10

Hope the peas have done the trick. So glad we missed the rain.

actually I'm in quite a lot of pain :( really swollen :(

BikeRider33 · 27/04/2013 09:43

That doesn't sound good. I hope it is less painful this morning. Sounds like you need to see someone before you try running again to stop doing longterm damage.

Loads better no thank goodness. I was a bit hobbly this morning but went into town shoe shopping with dd and my mother and feel loads better. I think I'll give it until Monday - unless I'm feeling much less stiff tomorrow Grin

Shells · 27/04/2013 18:42

Sorry to hear that mynameisn't. you poor thing. Yes leave it to Monday even if you feel better tomorrow. Best not to aggravate.

mynameisnt · 27/04/2013 22:27

thanks both. Now the pain has moved over to to front of my knees, t was at the sides - all felt better today in town but since I've been home has got horrible again gah!

Shells · 30/04/2013 17:48

How are you knees today myname?

mynameisnt · 30/04/2013 18:39

sadly, I hve been to the docs and have to go for x-rays :( Looks like I may have chipped a bone in my right knee and pulled the tendons in both! The pain got so bad I had to go. Really cross now! Saw a nurse yesterday who thought it was something else but the pain was so bd today I had to go back. Grrrrr.

BikeRider33 · 30/04/2013 22:12

That's not good. Hope the X-rays get to the bottom of the problem and the pain can be treated. Sounds like a slow recovery.

OP posts:
mynameisnt · 01/05/2013 07:45

:( don't think I'll be joining you tomorrow!

mynameisnt · 02/05/2013 16:57

so buddies :( I had x rays today and am getting the results tomorrow. I have no real idea what it is, but I had to be wheeled around addenbrookes! On heavy duty painkillers and still struggling. Hope you both enjoy tomorrow! Smile

BikeRider33 · 02/05/2013 22:43

That sounds grim. Sad

Running 90 seconds takes much longer than walking it!

OP posts:
mynameisnt · 03/05/2013 08:39

I'll be thinking of you Wink

Shells · 03/05/2013 09:38

Hi chaps - this thread disappeared for me - have managed to retrieve it by round a bout means. Planning on meeting you in a bit bikerider. Wondering if we should start another one if its doing weird things.

BikeRider33 · 09/05/2013 07:41

Shells I'm going to have to miss today, have been having problems with an old ankle problem. Think I'm going to go back to week 1 next week.

mynameisnt how are you doing, do you have an answers/solutions to the pain.

Can either of you recommend a good sports physio? Think I finally need to admit this ankle won't get better long term by ignoring it as it flares up once or twice a year.

OP posts:
Shells · 09/05/2013 10:46

You poor things. Both invalids! Don't know a physio sorry. I have been doing week 3 quite well so I'm going to persevere. But let me know how you go for next week.

mynameisnt · 12/05/2013 14:52

Knee update - had x rays but nthing wrong there so I have had a load of blood tests - for which i am awaiting results. Have been on Naproxen for the past week which have worked wonders! It is feeling a fair bit better now - so my next plan is to buy some proper shoes and try again!

Shells · 16/05/2013 06:13

Hi there, well I will be there for a 10.30 run tomorrow if either of you want to give it a go. Happy to just do the warm up and warm down together even if we're doing diff runs.
