Hi! I'm in South Bristol too and due in September.
I have, so far, managed only one yoga class and plan to go to a Home Birth Group in July.
Have been taking advantage of free swins at the new Hengrove pool too.
Haven't really found much else to do and don't really know anyone around here.
How about you?

howiwonder · 07/06/2012 15:35

hi there,

I'm due end of Oct - I'm planning to go to same home birth meeting in July too Ruidh!
I've started a pregnancy yoga near me which is really nice- I'm east Bristol though, not really South. Hoping to meet some mummies with this pregnancy (I have a 2 year old DS), moved to Bristol last year but have never really got my act together meeting people.
Haven't got round to the free swims yet, but everyone says swimming is a lovely thing to do when pregnant should I must take advantage of that :)

frogalou · 08/06/2012 07:51

Hello! Same for me really, i don't fancy joining an NCT course but i gave bought a voucher with lazy daisy and i will do a 6 weeks class this summer. They seem to mix a few techniques which i prefer. I have been to one yoga class in windmill hill. I should go back too. I also want to meet some mums. The new swimming pool souns good, i may try that. Do you both work full time?

frogalou I own my own pet care business and work from home. This is most of the reason I haven't really got to know anyone in Bristol...my main company is that of dogs! I'm not sure how much longer I am going to be able to keep up with all the walking! It makes my bump ache!
Are you working?

howiwonder hopefully I will see you at the home birth group. I haven't discussed homebirth with my MW yet...I'm really hoping she is supportive and that there are no reasons for me to have a hospital birth!
Was your first a homebirth?

howiwonder · 08/06/2012 13:29

frogalou your lazy daisy class sounds great - I actually toyed with the idea of training to be an antenatal teacher with them a while ago, but I just don't think I can afford it right now. I work part time, 3 days a week but already counting down to maternity leave - can't wait!! Are you working full time?
Ruidh no I didnt have home birth 1st time, thought about it but let myself get talked out of it by my mum really, she thinks its a bit bonkers but I have the confidence to go with my instincts this time. With DS1 I had a really straightforward waterbirth in a birth centre, so I think that makes me a good candidate for home this time. I discussed with midwife here and she was supportive so hopefully yours will be too. really looking forward to the hb meetings though to get my head round how it will all work.

frogalou · 09/06/2012 10:22

Hi! I work full time and will probably try to stop as near to due day as possible. I just spent a week in Paris and i am shattered from all the walking and going up stairs, i feel so unfit! I need to build up my stamina before my baby arrives! Ruidh, do you go to Knowle to see your midwife?

A friend of mine gave birth at home, i thought about it but for my first one, i think i will go to st michaels.... We shall see for number 2!

I go to Hartcliffe for the midwife...or rather midwiVES. I have seen a different on for each appointment. Lots of student midwives for half the appointment too.
They have been quite good but not very forthcoming with information considering this is my first. I am related to a midwife in in Bristol so I do wonder whether they just assume I already have the info I need?!

Very jealous about your trip to Paris. I haven't had a holiday in a looong time.

AbbiG · 11/06/2012 10:52

Hi.

I am 30, living in Knowle with my husband and I am due with our first child at the end of August.

It would be great to meet other mums-to-be in South Bristol.

None of my friends have kids yet so would be good to meet some others in the same situation.

I signed up for NCT classes in Bedminster but they were cancelled due to not enough people and so now I am going to Redland for the classes. I am worried I won't meet anyone that close to where I live at the classes now. Let me know if you're in the same situation.

I am still working full time at the moment but start maternity leave at beginning of August.

Thanks and hope to meet you soon.

Abbi

Ruidh · 12/06/2012 09:13

Hi Abbi.
I'm glad you posted. Its good to hear that there are others in the area in similar situations. Feeling a bit less lonely!
I think setting up our own little mums to be meet ups would be a great idea!

How does everyone else feel about coffee or similar?

frogalou · 12/06/2012 18:50

I am happy to meet for coffee (decaffeinated of course!). I would not mind a swimming/walking/yoga/any sport buddy too to get me moving.

When and where?

By the way, how many weeks are you all?... I am 23 weeks tomorrow and my baby is not moving a lot. What is your experience?

OP posts:
howiwonder · 12/06/2012 19:43

i would love to join you girls for a cuppa (im not strictly south bristol but very close, am i still allowed??!). i havent been in bristol that long so not an expert on wheres best - have you ladies any suggestions?

i'm 20 weeks, have my second scan this friday. i am feeling movement but not as much as i expected. as this is my second, ive read about it being alot sooner this time round but that hasnt really been the case as ive only been feeling it for about a week or two. anyway, sure it will pick up soon - frogalou you will be getting kicked all day soon enough i'm sure!!

Ruidh · 12/06/2012 20:11

Do we all drive or do we need somewhere near a bus stop?
Also, as there are full timers among us, is a weekend best?

Frogalou, I am up for a walking buddy...you are always welcome to join my dog walks!

I am 27 weeks by the way.

howiwonder · 12/06/2012 20:41

i drive and a weekend good for me as i wouldnt have crazy toddler in tow...

Ruidh · 12/06/2012 21:43

Ha! I say crazy toddlers are always welcome...it might do the rest of us good to get some experience!

frogalou · 13/06/2012 07:52

Hi!

I have a car, and I can come out after work or at the weekend. I agree, toddlers are welcome.

I am in Windmill Hill. Is North Street a good place to meet? It is already full of yummy mummies :) and there are plenty of cafes.

Ruidh, shall we PM about walking?

See you all soon then.

Ruidh · 13/06/2012 10:12

Is North Street near the Post Office Depo? I think I could probably navigate my way there. Is there parking?

How about an afternoon meet? Say 2pm on Saturday 23rd?

frogalou · 13/06/2012 18:40

Hello! North St is where the Tobacco Factory is. Not sure about the Post Office Depot. This month will be hard for me as I am away every weekends (lucky me, I know). I may be free 7 July. There are a lot of charity shops in North St for baby stuff!

OP posts:
howiwonder · 13/06/2012 22:14

love north st, tobacco factory great too. i have found parking on the little residential side streets in the past Ruidh.

23rd of this month may be possible, but i have washing machine repair coming at some point and wont know what time til that morning (what an exciting life i have...)

Definitely free 7th of July.

Ruidh · 14/06/2012 10:06

7th July is my step-son's and my nephew's birthday and we are going to the zoo! So that is out for me.

14th?!

Haha! This is probably why we don't know any other mums/mums to be! We are all to busy!

frogalou · 14/06/2012 18:10

I am going to the food show on 14th, but I could probably meet so some point, either morning or late afternoon. Any good?

OP posts:
frogalou · 14/06/2012 19:56

is one evening after work (6pm or 8pm) out of question?

OP posts:
howiwonder · 14/06/2012 20:56

we have friends staying the weekend of 14th but if it suits you ladies, please do go on without me and i will catch you another time.

an evening isnt out of question for me as such, takes a bit more organising but i could manage.

Ruidh · 15/06/2012 09:21

I could do an evening...

frogalou · 17/06/2012 14:49

Hi

The next two weeks are quite busy for me but I can do an evening on 3rd, 4th or 5th July.

Is that any good?

Thanks
G
