Primary School Admissions Notifcations - how do we find out?

Stase · 25/04/2011 23:14

Tomorrow is the day we find out which Bristol primary DS1 has got a place at. Does anyone know how we are notified? I've looked at the website and at the email we had when we submitted our applications, and no hints...
I'm thinking if it's by post it won't be tomorrow as the Easter Hol will delay things.
Anyone know?

Oh dear, ignore that. I see perfectly clearly that it's by 1st class post tomorrow, or email if you applied online.

Good luck with it Stase - are you likely to get your first choice? We are waiting for dd2's place but as she's a sibling we should be ok.....

tallulah · 26/04/2011 08:14

We're in South Glos and I just logged on to find out. It says a letter has been sent.. really useful! Might try again later.

crazymum53 · 26/04/2011 09:01

If you applied on-line Bristol are sending out emails to say which school your child has been allocated - but you do get sent a letter as well in case the email goes astray. Letter is sent by first class post.
I applied for a secondary school place on-line this year and received my email at about lunch-time on allocation day. I think Bristol must send the emails out in batches as some friends heard earlier and others later in the day. Hope thus helps!

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 09:11

Thanks crazymum - am preparing myself for a day of obsessively checking my email!

Stase · 26/04/2011 09:23

Been refreshing since 7am. Ridiculous I know. I'd be happy with any of our 3 choices really, but hoping DS1's little friend down the lane gets into the same one! Although they might learn more separately... Grin

hello...a nervous wait here as well......no email as yet...can't wait for this all to be over...haven't felt so nervous or sick in a long time. Good luck everyone x

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 12:28

Hi CHST, We haven't heard anything yet either. I remember when we applied for G - they didn't send emails then, only letters, and opening that letter was worse than opening my exam results! Fingers are crossed for you x

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 13:29

Has anyone had their email yet? If not this may be useful council website give distances for all the schools and numbers of siblings, so you may be able to work out for yourself whether you are in or not..... good luck!

CHST · 26/04/2011 13:52

looks like we haven't got our first choice then...even shorter distance than lat year. Looks like we have got our second choice by the criteria

tallulah · 26/04/2011 13:58

Got our email while we were out. Got our second choice. Will wait for the letter before deciding whether to go on the waiting list for first choice.

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 14:17

Tallulah and CHST - you can accept your second choice place and still go on the waiting list for first choice if you like. You shouldn't have to risk losing the place you have got.

mrsbjunior · 26/04/2011 14:18

still not sure from criteria but looks like we could have missed out on 1st choice by about 50m!!!!

mrsscoob · 26/04/2011 14:25

That council link is good. Anyone know if South Glos has done the same, I have tried looking but no luck.

CHST · 26/04/2011 14:47

how worth it would it be though runoutofideas? We are ca 100m further than the last given place. Areas are just shrinking and shrinking and shrinking.....

mrsbjunior · 26/04/2011 14:53

I have had a look at Henleaze and the rumoured 96 siblings didn't materialise but 66 is bad enough - must be why the other NW Bristol distances have shrunk this year with lots of 2nd preferences from Henleaze taking places

No wonder they are opening St Ursulas as a primary!

Still no email yet - anyone else still waiting?

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 14:56

It can't do any harm as long as you accept the other place as well. SB? People do drop out and there will be some who will send their children privately anyway but hold onto their space until the bitter end. Once this all sorts itself out they should give you a position on the waiting list. I would say that if you are lower than 10 then you have a chance, lower than 5 then you'd have a good chance. There do seem to be lots of people who haven't got a space at all though so maybe pressure will be even worse than usual this year....

CHST · 26/04/2011 15:03

Yes I think we have SB still waiting on email. It's a lovely school, I have been round to see it, just that I don't know anybody sending their kids there...everyone I know will be either E or WOT...also have to wonder how I would do drop off to Pre school and then rush over to SB...would have to car it no way could I do that walking.

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 15:23

I know a couple of people with children there and they all say good things about it. Would it be worth considering a different pre-school maybe nearer to the school? A friend of mine used St Mary's a few years ago and was happy with it. Otherwise you'd have time to do the two drop offs, but as you say, only if you drove, unless your ds2 only did afternoons, then you could get him there for 12.30, but it's a lot of traipsing about.

Stase · 26/04/2011 16:03

We're about 350m away from our first choice as the crow flies (which is how they measure I think), and the furthest successful applicant last year was 700m odd, so fairly confident. But our second choice is closer than our first... Come of Bristol City! If we haven't received an email by 5.30, do you think we'll have to wait until tomorrow? Wonder if it's alphabetical? Our surname is R, and friends who are F heard HOURS ago!

CHST · 26/04/2011 16:06

finally got the email and got SB. I don't really want to change pre schools. I could manage the two drop offs...just a bit dependant on parking at the school I guess

mrsbjunior · 26/04/2011 16:07

Hi CHST - sorry to hijack but you seem to be waiting for the same schools as me - have you heard - I have been refreshing my email for the last hour and I am getting really anxious now. thanks

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 16:18

Stase - have a look at the council website (the page I linked to a bit earlier) it will tell you the distance for this year, which should give you a good idea.

CHST - at least you know now, and you've got a good school. I know of at least one from pre-school who hasn't been offered anything at all! Shocking work BCC!

Mrsbjunior - Henleaze is 404m, Elmlea is 617m and Wesbury on Trym is 443m. Stoke Bishop is 1299m so if that was one of your choices you may be in luck!

mrsbjunior · 26/04/2011 16:20

Got SB too but they said in the email that it was our first preference which it wasn't - what does your letter say CHST?

Stase · 26/04/2011 16:30

We are 5metres INSIDE the shortest distance for this year's admissions for our preferred school! BUT just got the email and we have been given our second choice! And it says that the school offered is our first preference! I have checked the summary of the application we submitted and it is definitely our second choice...
Good one Bristol City Council... Hmm
