Is it worth trying for a place at Redland Green School?

We are moving to the Bristol area and can't decide between Redland Green and Backwell Schools. Is it worth makig the effort to get our DD into Redland Green? We would have to pay through the nose to rent a house within 700 metres of the school and although we would love to live there, chances are we wouldn't get a place at the school anyway since we won't be moving until March or April. I think Backwell School is good for performing arts, which is DD's main interest, but we worry about becoming isolated in a small community and having to commute a lot to Bristol. Can anyone share experience of this?

I think the emphasis was on 'rough' over ethnic, the OP had probably heard of the St Pauls riots and associated issues with this area. She has acknowledged the stupid language.

PosieParker · 24/09/2010 20:25

To be fair both Easton and St Pauls are places to get herion, crack and guns.,

Damn those official figuresHmm.

PosieParker · 24/09/2010 20:50

You only have to Google Easton Bristol and Gun/Drug crime to get a huge amount of info...including the peace march in August this year, perhaps they were doing it for fun?

Look let me get this straight I am sure there are nice and horrid people everywhere in Bristol, but it must be acknowledged that there are places which are home to more frightening problems where you wouldn't want to raise a family.

Why don't you read the thread?

Here, I'll highlight a couple of points

PosieParker Thu 23-Sep-10 19:37:54
No, I mean drugs, prostitution, knife crime, gangs....

And then you mention 'anti Islamic' and I sarcastically attributed Muslim children with the problems I had highlighted above. Now the message gets deleted, the fucking hysteria is so misplaced. I would have thought the least likely children in those crime ridden deprived areas would be Muslim, surely that was obvious.

Still waiting for you to be honest about what choices you made educationally.

Mumsnet is a big place. I think some people on this thread might want to have a think about how their comments affect those with little choice about where their kids go, be it because of exactly where they live or financial constraints.

Comments like 'I'd never allow my children to go to school' do not go down well with other MNers who felt shoehorned without options.

Bully for you if you can afford to live in half a million house close to a 'nice' school, can afford to send them private, have no qualms about faking religious beliefs or don't mind (or indeed don't have children who would suffer in the atmosphere) of a single sex school.

Not everyone is quite so lucky. Or perhaps they have inclusive principles that they are not prepared to compromise.

"ethnics" ffs?
Racist, moronic, uneducated thread.
