Are there any Sydney MNers out there?

bunnygirl80 · 01/03/2010 06:38

I moved to Sydney at the end of November last year. I was wondering if there are any MNers here.

I'm jealous as the Adelaide MNers have there own thread and are having a meet up!! My competitive streak makes me feel like those of us in Sydney/NSW should do the same

Hi bunnygirl80,

Yes there are a few of us here! We've had a couple of meet-ups but recent attempts to have another have fallen on stony ground.

Let's try and resurrect the cause!

So where in Sydney are you

bunnygirl80 · 01/03/2010 06:51

Hi VFemme

I would definitely be up for resurrecting the meet up cause!

I'm in Balmain. Whereabouts are you?

OP posts:
VFemme · 01/03/2010 07:12

I'm up in the sticks (Hornsby). Sunnydelight is up my way too (but in a much posher part!)

There are another couple of MNetters down your way (ninedragons and brightongirl) who might step into this thread if we keep it bumped up enough!

LoremIpsum · 01/03/2010 10:43

Hey bunnygirl, I'm in Balmain too.

I'm up for drinks if a meet-up happens, or a local coffee if you like.

bunnygirl80 · 01/03/2010 23:27

Hi Lorem, looks like there are more of us out there than I thought.

VFemme - we looked at places around Hornsby, but then fell in love with Balmain.

I'll try and keep the thread active and see who else joins us - then perhaps we can try and arrange a meet up.

Ooh this is exciting - I've never (knowingly) met a MNetter in real life. I think I'll feel the need to only address people by their nicknames rather than their real ones

Just bumping again....is anyone out there?

thumbwitch · 03/03/2010 14:06

well I'm in NSW but about 1.5 hours north of Sydney. However, if you do go for a meet up I would be interested, so long as it isn't morning coffee (don't think I could make it into Sydney by then!)

VFemme, you have no idea what "sticks" are if you think Hornsby qualifies! I am proper sticksville - according to Sydneysiders, I live in the "country" (doesn't feel like it to me but I suppose the odd neighbour having a horse in their yard qualifies!)

Will put a Watch on this thread so I don't lose it. Good idea to have "our own" thread, bunnygirl!

VFemme · 03/03/2010 23:06

Thumbwitch I love Lake Macquarie! We were kayaking there a couple of weeks ago. Gorgeous.

Hornsby just feels like the sticks when friends of ours are all lower North Shore and Inner West! (In fact I'm sure one friend gets nosebleeds when he goes north of Chatswood...)

I work full time Monday to Friday so a Saturday/Sunday meet up would be good for me. Thumbwitch it would be great if you were to come down for a meetup - maybe turn it into a shopping trip and pick up some Boursin when you are here

(I've only done one meetup before, I was only about 48 hours off the aeroplane and riddled with jetlag. I got v drunk and fell asleep )

thumbwitch · 04/03/2010 03:56

Lake Macquarie is pretty cool, I have to say. Where we are is pretty cool in terms of things near us to do as well - we are about 40 mins from the Hunter Valley wine region (with good cheese shops and a not-so-good-any-more chocolate shop), 30 mins from the Watagan mountains, 5 mins from enormous mobs of semi-tame kangaroos - and of course about 5-15 mins from decent access to Lake Macquarie. So at some point, maybe some or all of you could venture out here to the country for a wine-tasting trip!

Good plan to pick up the Boursin while I'm down there, VFemme - ooh, I'm getting quite excited about it now, when can we manage it? I don't think we have anything planned at weekends for a while, so I'm fairly easy to please in terms of dates.

bunnygirl80 · 04/03/2010 05:17

VFemme - I wouldn't have said Hornsby was in the sticks. I do know plenty of people that don't like to venture too far from the safety of the Inner West though

Thumbwitch - I love the idea of a wine tasting trip to the Hunter....last time I went wine tasting up there I was drunk mildly tipsy by 11am. Worked out well for the wineries we visited as we bought cases of everything we tried

I'm free most weekends for a meet up, although after Easter I'll be playing netball on Saturdays so a Sunday might be better for me.

hello

I'm new here, but a year in the inner west, about to drop number one son (DS1) in about 4 weeks or so all going well.

Could do with a local cup of raspberry leaf tea. The wine tours are definatly something to look forward to but I think I'll have to take a raincheck for the moment.

thumbwitch · 06/03/2010 12:33

Ooh, I love raspberry leaf tea - I was double-dosing on the stuff from about 39w onwards - didn't bring on labour but I'm sure it helped on the day!

Had a swim today - even though it had been raining on and off, it was still well muggy and DH got the pool going again (after letting it go green while DS and I were in the UK ) - he and DS had a swim first and then when DS had dropped off to sleep for his nap, I went and had my first uninterrupted actual proper swim in the pool (normally DS is with me/us and, seeing as how he's only 2, I don't get any "me" swimming time)

So - if abithormonal wants to be in on the meet up, we should try to fix a date sooner rather than later then? Who's free what weekend?

bunnygirl80 · 06/03/2010 23:00

Thumbwitch I'd love to have a pool but I fear that DH and I would probably let the water get so toxic new lifeforms would develop in there. We are so rubbish at any kind of household maintenance

I'm free pretty much every weekend between now and Easter. If we're aiming to meet somewhere local to abithormonal than it'll be close for me too, so I'm happy to meet whenever's easiest for those who need to travel/ not go into labour during the meet up!

Won't be able to post for a few days as am away at work with no internet, but will check in once I get back

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 10/03/2010 01:11

doesn't look like we're going to have many takers, does it! Come on ladies, don't let the Adelaide group beat us on the enthusiasm stakes!

I am also free most weekends up until Easter, afaik - DH has cousins coming up at Easter so I know that's out, but any time before then would do?

More thoughts, anyone?

sunnydelight · 10/03/2010 07:36

I'm around but life seems so busy at the moment I'm loathe to commit to anything

If you guys set a date I will try my absolute best to be there. I still have fond memories of the Brighton MN meet ups!

thumbwitch · 10/03/2010 09:04

Fair enough, sunnydelight - will wait a couple more days to see if anyone else has any date suggestions and then do something about it.

bunnygirl80 · 11/03/2010 21:12

Hi

Sorry I've neglected the thread for a few days - no internet when I'm away at work!

thumbwitch looks like it's just you and me who have enough free time for a meet up!

I'll bite the bullet and suggest a date, and then perhaps that will encourage more people to come out of the woodwork

How about the 27th or 28th March? I know that's only a couple of weeks away, or we could arrange something after Easter?

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 11/03/2010 23:46

Sounds good to me - I'll have to check with MIL DH the actual dates his family are coming down but I'm pretty sure it's after then. What's your preference - lunch, afternoon, evening? Coffee or alcohol? DC or no DC? I'm happy whichever.

sunnydelight · 12/03/2010 03:00

My preference (not that you asked ) would be lunchtime/afternoon by the water somewhere with alcohol and no kids! That weekend is actually pretty clear for me at the moment so if we can commit to a date I'll pencil it in. VFemme said weekends best for her so hopefully she'll come too.

thumbwitch · 12/03/2010 03:29

sounds fine to me, sunnydelight! I can abandon DS to his dad's clutches care no problem . I am not very familiar with Sydney so will bow to other suggestions as to where to go.

Good, we're narrowing it down slowly...

bunnygirl80 · 12/03/2010 03:51

Have just realised I'm meant to be doing a fun run on 28th March so would have to be 27th for me - should really have checked my diary before suggesting possible dates

Lunchtime is good for me. I'm off booze for the next few months but I'm happy to watch everybody else drink

I may live in Sydney, but am really quite rubbish at knowing good places to go so am open to suggestions.

OP posts:
thumbwitch · 12/03/2010 18:19

OK, we have a date and a rough time! Sat 27th March, lunchtime, somewhere that does booze and other stuff by the water. I will probably end up coming in by train so preferably not tooooo far from the Central Station or other station access point would be better for me.

abithormonal · 13/03/2010 01:24

How about the opera bar, under/beside the opera house, harbour views and close to circular quay station which is on the city circle.

D day is supposed to be the 29th so I can't promise to not be having a baby.

bunnygirl80 · 13/03/2010 02:20

Opera bar sounds like a good plan - I was going to suggest we went somewhere near circular quayas it's near the station and the water!

abithormonal - if you were to go into labour at the meet up we could do a live birth thread for you-one of us could type while the rest concentrate on driving you to hospital through the Sydney traffic!
