...
Wieder flattern durch die Lüfte
Süße, wohlbekannte Düfte
Streifen ahnungsvoll das Land
Veilchen träumen schon,
Wollen balde kommen
Horch, von fern ein leiser Harfenton!
Frühling, ja du bist's!
Dich hab ich vernommen!

oh and for easter my delgihtful MIL is bringing dinner with her!! obviously my cooking isnt up to it!! she suggested lamb and was gutted when DH said he doesnt like it!! then she suggested rabbit and i was nearly sick at the thought!! so think we're having duck!! not very spring like but we'll all be happy!!

Frosch · 06/04/2009 20:38

mmelindt - YANBU!

Love the foodie theme today; i hate hot cross buns (the candid peel makes me want to barf) but I'm having kaffee and kuchen with a neighbour and will make some proper scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. Then Friday, I'm making eggs benedict for DH's birthday breakfast in bed. The problem is trying to find self-raising flour (the baking powder and usual type 405 doesn't seem to work...)

canella - the first MIL dinner I had was pork and bananas in a paprika sauce . I was eager to make a good impression, so I ate it but it was a bit odd. Duck sounds safe!

Anyone who hates schlagermusik should try Helmut Lotti; that will tip you into the abyss....

taipo · 06/04/2009 21:41

Pork and bananas - a bit odd. Think you are being very diplomatic there Frosch

ML, it's hard to get the balance right isn't it? I sometimes think we spend too much time together and should look for our own interests/friends but that is also difficult to get right. I don't think you're bu in wanting to spend time together especially if you're at PIL while he's off enjoying himself in Munich. I agree with the others - the evening of Volksmusik would be the deal breaker for me!

Frosch, I googled Helmut Lotti. It's very well, schmalzy, isn't it! Think it might be preferable to Hansi Hinterseer and his amazing teeth though.

admylin · 06/04/2009 23:19

Hi from sunny England! I had hot cross buns for breakfast again, yum. I tried to play badminton for a few hours to use up some of the calories.

ZZZen, thanks for the mail. So much to think about and time is slipping away. I've got to the the 16th anyway. Dc are happy and ds especially seems to be relaxed hasn't complained about a thing. Neither of them are missing Germany at all and ds is even refusing to speak German if his sister speaks it as if he's totally switched it off.

Looking after the nieces tomorrow as my sister works 2 days so we'll be busy all day.

By the way, shopping is a dream here, you get so much more for your momey. Went to get the dc some sports wear and I had bags full and new trainers for ds all for 30 pounds. 30 Euro would maybe have got me the trainers in Germany.

Frosch · 07/04/2009 07:49

Taipo - diplomacy is everything in Germany! The first time I visited my PIL, it was late at night and they were in already in bed. DH had let me have the key to the house, while he flew on, so knackered with jet-lag in that stupid 2003 heatwave, I stripped off totally and collapsed on his bed. When I woke up, there was a plate of raw veg, dip and strawberries and a bottle of iced water. I still cringe when I think about it and really hope it was my
MIL who put it there and not my FIL . That's why I felt I HAD to eat the pork and bananas!

Admylin - you sound so much happier, even though I guess you've still some hard decisions to make. I have a German cousin, now 13, who lives in England and absolutely refuses to speak German to anyone, so this is normal behaviour!

ZZZen · 07/04/2009 13:17

pork and bananas in paprika sauce? Really can't imagine the taste.

Maybe it was a punishment for your wantoness

I don't have to put dried peel in my hot cross buns do I? I was thinking just sultanas. You've unsettled me now and I was just feeling ready to deal with YEAST. Scarey stuff. Ah well then I can just postpone it a bit

Frosch · 07/04/2009 14:09

Hmmm, the taste wasn't too bad; it was more the textures! You're probably right about it being a punishment, she hasn't made it since....

No, don't put dried peel in hot cross buns, it is NOT NECESSARY and spoils a decent bun. Yeast is fine as long as it's not killed with too hot water, I think. On-line Delia is a life-saver...

just in case anyone wants to cook up a memorable easter dinner.....

canella · 07/04/2009 15:11

ha ha frosch!! i've not even clicked on the link - i can see in the address what it might be!!i'll give that a miss!! the thought of hot bananas makes me want to heave!! but maybe i should suggest that to my MIL!!
My boys are in a right moany mood today!! dh tells me i need to clean outside our house on the street (he's at work all week or else he'd do it himself!!) but i cant bear to take the boys outside on the street because i'm sure they'll just run away!! or they'll moan the whole time and the neighbours will think i'm a right narky mother!! they'd be right as well!!
I've got PMT which doesnt help - maybe they're not anymore moany than normal - its just me being more grumpy in return!!

trying to potty train ds2 - he's 2.7 but has never yet dont anything in the potty or toilet!! even if i take his nappy away he just wees in his trousers!! blatently he's not ready but i feel i should be able to make him do it!! i'll be so happy if he's out of nappies and i never have to buy them again!!

Gracelo · 07/04/2009 16:31

I have tried the Delia hot cross buns and they didn't work for me. I'm good with yeasty things normally but I couldn't get this recipe to work at all.

MmeLindt · 07/04/2009 17:02

Have got the ingredients for hot cross buns so will give them a go tomorrow. I got something that I think is mixed spice. Hope so anyway.

SIL has been extremely lazy this morning, I was pretty annoyed as she neither helped with the dishes last night, nor did she even put the breakfast dishes in the dishwasher. She has made it up a bit, by making the salads for tonight and setting the table. She probably realised by my face that I was pissed off.

They did not go anywhere today, just lazed about so no MN time for me.

I've been looking after friend's 2children today as they are moving (b6 g4). Kept DS off kindergarten and took them all to the Tierpark, picnic lunch there and then to Funworld (softplay in barracks which we had all to ourselves).

By the time we got back here they were ready to collapse and played beautifully with toys, ate fish fingers, chips, veg and then watched videos! Only problem we had was that their dad arrived just as we were putting on the second one-cue much tears from 6 year old as it was his choice!

Been a long day - interesting though how good ds has been and how much less he needed my attention. Starting to see why people with only children are always borrowing another! (but note to self, only one extra is best I think!)

canella · 08/04/2009 08:27

trockodile - i would strongly recommend only 1 more to add to your family!! we've got 3 (dd 7, ds1 4.6 & ds2 2.7) and that 3rd one nearly tipped me over the edge!! ds2 obviously wasnt a plan but i wouldnt swap him for the world now but might have lent him out to friends quite happily in those first few weeks!! but it sounds like you had a great day!! love when you go to soft play places and you have them to yourself!!

Mme lindt - LOL at that ad!! havent clicked on the link yet but he sounds like a right funny h!!! what a good way tho to get people to talk about your ad!!

no great plans today - i had shocking period pains by the end of yest so was in bed before 9!! feel much better this morn so maybe we'll all have a better day!!
i braved cleaning the street with the boys yest - think i was the only time they stopped fighting all day!!

MmeLindt · 08/04/2009 11:38

Canella
Sounds like you have to get the boys cleaning more often, if it stops them fighting.

I am on hold. Phoned the Orange mobile folks to get the ban on using mobile abroad lifted now that I have paid 3 bills. Oops, they have just hung up on me (hopefully by mistake)

Are you all out in the sunshine? I take it you all have school hols at the moment?

We are off now too for Easter. We leave for Wü on Sunday.

Am surviving the invasion of SIL and her family (just) by keeping out of their way and sending them off to far flung tourist traps. They are off to Lausanne today, which is the furthest away I could send them

Our dog was spayed yesterday so I am havign a day at home to let her recover. She is sitting under the table, enjoying the sun. Poor baby.

canella · 09/04/2009 14:10

your doing well mme lindt coping with your SIL - as much as i enjoy visitors i find it so stressful!! will it be even more stress to go to your PIL in wuerzburg on sun?

did you sort it out with dh about him going away for a few nights!!

been a quiet week here cause dd is away at grandparents and boys have setled into going to KG every morning!! ILs bringing dd back on sun - one of her classmates invited her to a birthday party while she was away so i've made her first playdate for next week - gives her something to look forward to!!

dh on call both public holidays so like a normal weekend really!! but there's some kind of kindertag thing in muennerstadt on monday so we'll go to that!

heard on the tv last night about tanzverbot!! whats all that about? presume it meant that nightclubs are closed at easter? was laughing that we lived on the set of footloose!!

Gracelo · 09/04/2009 14:58

Right, something I still can't get my head round after 7 years in GB: the holiday weekend shopping frenzy. I went to Tesco during lunch break (to get milk and ibuprofen) and it was packed. No parking spaces, queues at every single till, people at various stages of shopping rage. Why?????? Our Tesco is open tomorrow (limited hours), normal opening hours on Saturday, not sure about Sunday, open Monday. Why this need to shop like the world is coming to an end just because it's a holiday weekend? I was planning to do a normal shop on Saturday but I think it might be another frenzy. I might check freezer and cupboards to see if I can feed the family without going shopping at all.

Frosch · 09/04/2009 16:47

I am with you on this one, Gracelo and it's the same here, except no shops open Friday, Sunday or Monday, so everyone turns out Thursday and Saturday and it's HELL and there is never any bread left and I wouldn't mind so much but when you see the fridges and freezers people have in their kellers, let alone their kitchen and all the stuff they stockpile, why on earth do they think they are going to run out just because it's Easter Sunday/Monday?!?!?!?

How are everyone's hot cross buns coming along?

hupa · 09/04/2009 16:53

I was just coming on to ask about the hot cross buns. I decided it was too much of a faff, but hoped someone else had tried and would tell me it´s really easy.

I agree about the shopping. It´s complete madness. Even if you´ve got guests coming, you surely don´t need enough food for 2 weeks just to get through the weekend.

hupa · 09/04/2009 17:39

Is everybody else inundated with hard-boiled eggs? Everywhere we go we get given more and must have about 20 in the kitchen and that´s before Sunday when the number will double. I don´t even like them and dd says they´re too pretty to eat. Does anyone know how long they keep for?

hupa · 09/04/2009 19:04

Can any of you add anything to this thread?

infopleaseta · 09/04/2009 19:40

ah i found you, i am the person on the thread hupa has linked too.

any insights would be relly appreciated. thankyou.

Hi everyone, just popping in to wish you all a happy Easter. Have a horrible virus unfortuantley, they seem to wait forthe Feiertage to seek me out. Very strange.

Welcome to the thread infopleaseta.
