That's it really. I'm English (DP too). We have a two year old boy and live in Valencia.

Hi ! Glad to here that the birthday worked out ok in the end patito and I hope you're enjoying your holiday supersoph

Fallas is well and truly over - last one was burnt yesterday in the next village to ours. DD is going to be a Fallera next year so I have to buy the material pretty soon to start making the dress ! OMG I'll have no fingers left by next year

Hope you both have great easters - don't eat too much chocolate (hold no - there's no such thing as too much chocolate )

MrIC · 30/03/2010 10:48

Hola!

Que tal vosotros? DW - who posts on here as InmaculadaConcepcion - and I live in Madrid and have a 9 week old DD born here in La Paz.
We've been in Madrid since Jan 2009. We're both English teachers, though obviously DW is on maternity leave at the moment.

Hope Las Fallas was fun. We're thinking of getting DD a Chulapa costume for San Isidro, though I have to say the Fallera costumes look a lot more impressive!

Is anyone else in Madrid or ever come here?

felices fiestas

SuperSoph73 · 03/04/2010 11:04

Hey there Twig, patito and welcome to MrIC. Congratulations on the birth of your daughter, hope it's all going well. I remember those first few weeks like it was yesterday. You feel over the moon, worn out, completely incredulous all at the same time - fab I've never been to Madrid, but hope to one day. DH has been a couple of times for conferences but didn't get to have a proper look round.

We're spring cleaning at the moment, although the momentum seems to have died at the moment. Because I'm such a dreadful housewife I leave everything until I can't stand it anymore, which of course makes everything twice as much work - gah!

We've been very good when it comes to chocolate at the moment, although we are stopping at the supermarket on the way to meet some friends for lunch today to buy Easter eggs for the children. We have opened 2 bags of mini eggs because one of my lovely friends on the ante-natal thread sent them to us. Great

Well, better get on. Have fun everyone.

Twig20151 · 04/04/2010 08:17

Hi Everyone - Happy Easter.

A 9 wk old - that brings back memories of sleep deprivation

We are actually off to Madrid for a couple of days next week - never been before. The plan is to see the most important sights - the Warner Park and Ikea LOL it's sooo unfair we don't have an Ikea in Valencia.

We went to get the material for the Fallera dress and it worked out only a bit more expensive to buy a ready made one - so my fingers have been saved !!!! The dress is enormous so that dd can grow into it. I had no idea what a Chulapa dress was so I googled it, it's what I always thought of as a 'Spanish dress' before we moved out here, your dd will look soo cute in it.

MrIC · 04/04/2010 12:53

Hola!

Felices Fiestas a todos!!

yeah, we're not getting huge amounts of sleep, but it's not too bad. She's not a screamer (touch wood!) so it's just that we wake up every 2.5 hours for a feed and change. Well I say we.... obviously DW does, though I try to take her in the day so DW can have a siesta. Very Spanish. In fact it's probably taking siestas that resulted in DD in the first place...

We like Madrid. It's very friendly and we've got a nice mix of friends here - locals, expats and south americans. Plus there are two IKEAS

If you have time try to go to Plaza Mayor and have a wander around Mercado de San Miguel, and then have a picnic in the Retiro. those are our faves.

We went down to Valencia for our anniversary last year and had a lovely time (even though it rained pretty much the whole weekend!) beautiful place. I do wish Madrid had a beach....!

San Isidro is great fun, it's a really nice festival. not quite so iconic as San Fermin or San Jose granted, but definitely a great time to be in Madrid.

LteMadrid · 09/04/2010 16:39

Hola a todos!

We are here in Madrid, though due to two DSs and the need for space to play we now live in the countryside outside Madrid. Both boys were born here and my DH has been in Spain for 25 years. I can't believe but even I have been here over 8 1/2 years, time flies.

MrIC hate to correct you in your sleep deprived status (congralations on getting through those early days) but in fact we have THREE IKEAS here in Madrid as we now have Este on the A3. Not that I wish to upset those in Valencia and those other places without them... .

Twig - don't forget to go look at the Palace and have a drink by the lake in Retiro. Believe it or not there are a couple of fantastic Horchata places there - better than anything I had when living in Gandia!

Twig20151 · 09/04/2010 20:02

We're in Madrid and have just spent the day (and a small fortune) at the Warner Park - I have to say it was not as good as I thought it would be.

We've only here for another half day so we'll try to fit in as much as poss - then home via the Ikea on the A3, followed by two days to recover before the kids go back to school

patito · 13/04/2010 21:02

Hi all

Hope you all had a good easter. We went back to Yorkshire and it was actually sunny!!!

Ate far too much chocolate, but can blame the weight on the fast growing bump. Im 20 weeks now, its flown by. I feel a bit sad about not having time to focus on this pregnacy like I did with DS1. Have the next scan on Thurs and have arranged for someone to mind DS1 so DP and I will get to have a bit of time on our own for it.

SuperSoph73 · 15/04/2010 14:53

Hey patito. Pleased you had a nice time in sunny Yorkshire LOL We're going back to England in the summer & I will probably need an extra seat on the plane when we get back

I felt a bit like that when I was pregnant with DS2 but I think it's the same for most people as you have to run round after your first!

Twig20151 · 16/04/2010 12:47

Hi patito how did the scan go?

We stopped off at Ikea on the way home from Madrid - only to find out that there is a Primark next door OH NO - I have well and truly bankrupted us now.

We got sunburnt when we where away but the cold weather has come back again - I'm sat in front of the woodburning fire.

I hope everyone is enjoying the start of the new term (PEACE)

patito · 20/04/2010 21:09

Hi all

Scan was good, still cant get over quality of 4D scans. We saw the face really clearly. Only hitch is my heart scan showed up something that can be possible indicator of low birthn weight (something to do with extra effort on 2nd beat meaning its working hard to get blood through placenta ???). Have to go back for scan at 25 weeks to check babies development. TBH not too worried at moment as I feel fine and my bump is definatly growing.

Weather has picked up somewhat here and even got down to the beach on the weekend .

SuperSoph73 · 21/04/2010 13:14

Hey patito, nice to see you Pleased to hear the scan went well. We had a 4D scan with DS2 and yes it was incredible to be able to see him so clearly. Sorry to hear about your heart scan but they'll keep a close eye on you so I'm sure everything will be fine.

It's DS2's birthday tomorrow. He'll be 2 - I can't believe where the last 2 years have gone

Twig20151 · 02/05/2010 06:53

Feliz dia de la Madre!

SuperSoph73 · 03/05/2010 15:29

Gracias Twig How was your day? We didn't even leave the house over the weekend as the wind was so strong that poor DS2 would have been completely sand blasted.

Both my boys made Mother's Day cards at school and DS2's came with a DVD of all the little ones at the guarderia singing & dancing - cute

Twig20151 · 03/05/2010 21:06

Hi Soph, dh and the kids made dinner for me! Bless.

We had one heck of a storm last night - rain, lightening and hail - so we ended up with both kids in bed with us and then ds decided to get up twice to go to the loo - I can't wait to get into bed tonight and catch up on the lost sleep

SuperSoph73 · 04/05/2010 09:38

Twig - alright there? Did you get a good night's sleep? Fortunately for us there could be a tornado ripping through the house and neither of the boys would notice Not that I'd want that to happen, you understand!

FutureMum · 06/05/2010 15:46

Hi SkyDancer, good to find this thread. I am from Valencia but have been living in the UK for ten years, so it'd be nice to hear your stories of living there & have a chat. Do you live in Valencia capital?

patito · 06/05/2010 21:11

HI

haven´´t been on for ages, seem to have been quite busy, even though not doing much more than usual.

twig Supersoph Glad to hear you both had a good dia del madre. Got a cute brooch from DS (via DP obviously). DP never gives/ makes card or anything like and I miss them, and TBH I would prefer that to something bought. May have to try something bit more clear than subtle hints next time round.

Im about 24 weeks on now and feeling pretty good. Have a sizeable bump, but luckly all upfront so far.

SuperSoph73 · 07/05/2010 15:09

Hey Patito, glad to hear all's well I had to make my own birthday card from the children this year, then give it to DH and then just crossed my fingers that he would actually remember to get DS1 to write it However, because he's such a great DH and Dad I forgive him for this

Twig20151 · 07/05/2010 17:08

Hi Futuremum I live about 20 mins outside Valencia city - near to Cheste.

Patito SuperSoph my DH is the same - there's no way he would make a homemade card - luckly ds and dd love to and I get a constant supply of cards and pictures - I've covered the fridge and half the kitchen wall LOL

FutureMum · 10/05/2010 14:02

Oh yes Cheste : )

I am from Valencia capital but for live in Sheffield - NOT for its lovely weather.

patito · 18/05/2010 14:58

hi all

Just checking. Hope everyone´´s ok.

FutureMum Im from v. near sheffield, how did you find yourself in that part of the world?

Off to rouse DS1 to go out for a walk as the sun is shining and don´´t know how long it´´ll last.

SuperSoph73 · 18/05/2010 16:06

Hey patito how's it going? Me and the Ds's are full of a head cold, but apart from that we're fine. DH & I have started a diet and I've done quite well at the end of the first week. Should really start exercising as well but really don't feel like it when I feel like my head's full of concrete!

Our weather is really strange as well. I don't think it's ever going to warm up .... although in a couple of months time I'll be wingeing (sp?) on about how unbearably hot it is

crumpette · 26/05/2010 14:44

Hola Spanish mummies..

I'm thinking of moving to Spain on a whim really- have a 4mo DS, would move in Sept/Oct time. In my 20s, DP has just been made redundant and other than my job (which I'm not sure about returning to) we have no ties here. We're both legal professionals but DP has been lecturing for years, employment wouldn't be our main focus at first. Where should I think about moving to? We'd be renting initially, pref somewhere that's quite busy city/town but also near coast and good for children.

If anyone's around I'd be really grateful for your thoughts. Thanks

SuperSoph73 · 26/05/2010 14:57

Hey crumpette I'm sure someone will be along at some point to guide you in the right direction. I don't know Spain at all as we are in the Canaries (which is a shocking admission in itself), sorry about that Just wanted to say hi
