Good morning Canucks. What are you all doing today to beat the heat?. I just hung out my laundry & I've had to take refuge in the kids pool I am melting. I'm dreading Monday 38° but will feel like 48° 🥵

Onesailwait · 26/06/2021 19:16

Just me then. I shall assume everyone else has actually melted

Possibly but my husband would be in heaven with 38 degrees.... I'd also be melting!
Good luck!

SummerHouse · 26/06/2021 19:21

I don't know what BC stands for. Is it Canada? Sorry it's so hot. I hate heat.

Hermione101 · 26/06/2021 19:29

Canadian in London here and I’ll trade you for that heat! Although I hope the heat wave doesn’t propagate forest fires again this year.

British Columbia.. Major city is Vancouver.
Shelddd · 26/06/2021 19:34

38 is too hot for the lake. You will regret going out! prime lake weather is upper 20s, lower 30s is manageable but at 38 its just too much. Do you have A/C? if so stay home during the peak sun.

LoveFall · 26/06/2021 19:37

It is very hot in my southwest facing apartment in Vancouver. Last night was miserable. I did indeed nearly melt.

I am holed up with window shut and blinds down while our little portable aircon tries hard to keep the temperature below 30 in here.

But Vancouver looks beautiful in the sunshine, and I am hoping my basil plants recover from shivering in a cold wind two weeks ago.

For me it's the going from one extreme to the other that makes it hard. And the dire warnings of extreme heat and no relief at night.

We are indeed heading to the lake soon. Can't wait for cool on shore breezes at night and a sky full of stars.

Fellow Canuck here, just over the Rockies in Canmore. It’s currently 29 degrees and rising.

Beautiful clear water, wildlife, and quiet.

We have a mountain creek a 5 minute walk from our place.

We have a mountain creek a 5 minute walk from our place.
That looks heavenly. And very beautiful. Trade you?
Onesailwait · 26/06/2021 21:37

We don't have AC. We did try to go out for a kayak but it was to hot so we head home. Back yard & kiddie pool in the shade. My little dog has found a cool spot in the garage.

Well, our little A/C is working hard. It is 28 in our living room and apparently 42 on the balcony, but in the sun. Yikes.

Never buy an apartment in February when you are starved for light in the Vancouver rain. You will think it is s light and bright, but southwest facing huge windows are very bad news in a heatwave. We have the sun until 9 pm or later.

Stay cool everyone.

LoveFall · 27/06/2021 21:50

@Onesailwait

How are things in your area today? Absolutely boiling in Vancouver. I was doing some watercolour painting in my messy den but have had to leave it and hole up with portable air con aka the resident jet engine in our bedroom.

DH was persuade by grandson to go out so he could take some pictures. At least the car is air conditioned.

I think this is if not the hottest I have been in Vancouver, then close.

Stay cool B.C!

ElCaMum · 27/06/2021 23:01

Feeling the heat today...staying in with the fans going.
We have no AC but a neighbour has a kiddie pool so the kids are going in and out every now and again.
Thankfully our basement is really cool so we're heading down there for a little while and will probably sleep there too tonight!
It's the humidity that is killing us.

LoveFall · 28/06/2021 17:53

Ok, this is getting a bit scary. Another ridiculously hot day again. It is already 32 outside on our balcony and it not even 10 am yet.

We have closed all window and doors in a futile attempt to keep it cooler. Last evening you could feel the heat radiating from our west facing windows until well past 9 pm. This with the expensive so called insulating honeycomb blinds.

Is anyone else feeling a bit besieged and anxious? Or is it just me? It scare me not to be able to cool this place down.

ElCaMum · 28/06/2021 18:44

I’ve been shocked at how hot our flooring has got, particularly on the top floor. The kids rooms were reading 34 at 9pm last night, it’s a little insane.

LoveFall · 28/06/2021 18:48

@ElCaMum

Your poor kids. I took a shower before bed and turned the temperature down slowly. It felt particularly good on my head.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 29/06/2021 02:28

How are we all doing? It’s not Wednesday yet ….
We’re sleeping in our basement tonight.

LoveFall · 29/06/2021 02:41

Just read through the twitter feed on heat wave in Vancouver. People are really struggling. We went out today in the air conditioned car just to get away from our sweltering apartment. Thankfully we had an excuse in some errands.

It is now 6:30 m and the sun is in the west blazing into our apartment. It is 37 c in here. Many cats and dogs are actually dying or having to be euthanized due to heat stroke.

If I was religious I would ask for prayers. Maybe that sounds melodramatic, but we are just not equipped for this heat.

Many people are scared. I find this anxiety provoking. It is much much hotter than I remember it ever being here.

I am hoping for a bit of respite tomorrow as they are saying coastal areas will improve.

Please stay safe and keep your pets safe.

Susannahmoody · 29/06/2021 03:01

It's currently 39 degrees in Vancouver

Shock

We're on the east coast, its been 32 today. Too hot

Keep cool, people

Onesailwait · 29/06/2021 03:54

So hot today, registering 42° in my yard this afternoon. Luckily I'm at the office this evening I have the a/c at 68, bliss. The nighttime is brutal me & the kids camped out in the yard last night. I think we will do the same tonight. I could have headed home an hour ago but I'm going to string it out a little longer. My kids are currently enjoying the slip & slide.

LoveFall · 29/06/2021 03:59

@Onesailwait

Sounds like a good idea, sleeping outside but it is not cooling much overnight. A slip and slide sounds good though!

I was at my office briefly today and everyone said they were very happy to come to work for the air con.

Keep cool.

BritWifeInUSA · 29/06/2021 03:59

Just over the border here in WA. Well, not just over as we are closed to OR…

117 Fahrenheit here the last few days. I think that’s 47 Celsius? Also no a/c and we have a malamute and a husky. Big industrial fan blowing a hurricane through the house.

Onesailwait · 29/06/2021 04:10

No, not much cooling over night, but oh my so much cooler than upstairs. Kept my youngest 2 home today. The principal emailed @8 to say it was already 30 in the school. My middle schooler went as it was her last day & called me at 1 begging me to pick her up so slurpies all round. @BritWifeInUSA poor doggo, mine is feeling very sorry for himself I walked him at 5am & he had a dip In the ocean. He's been hiding in the garage sleeping on a wet towel.
