Dilemma, UK or USA?

Nothing is sure yet but dh has got an interview in London next week and one for a job in Texas but the interview isn't 'til December. Both places sound as if they want him.

I'm in Germany and can't wait to get away, infact could pack tomorrow so I don't really care where dh goes to work as long as it's an English speaking country. Somehow I think life might be nicer in Texas as compared to London. What do you think? I just seem to read so much negative, stressfull stuff about London (especially about schooling) and cost of living. I bet we couldn't afford to rent more than a tiny flat in London. Just thought I'd ask on here as I can't sleep thinking about it - I really really want out of here but why does London not appeal to me?

probably not, but that's ok really - I'm just in the missing it stage now (and still viewing the whole thing through rose tinted spectacles).

Have a baby over there - that takes away the visa dilemma!

Good tip, thanks! I always wanted three!

US v UK ? depends what you're into and- obviously where in each. London v texas I don't know... we did North Yorks pennsylvania and back and oh boy did it make me appreciate Britain!

Some parts of the US simply arent fit for human habitation. PA goes from too bloody cold to too bloody hot with one day in between (fall is the only nice season there).
Do you like driving everywhere... bet you have to in texas too. It was so nice to be able to walk in the fresh green of the moors.

Any news admylin?

admylin · 09/10/2007 09:26

No SSSandy, no news. Stillwaiting to hear from London. Yesterday dh's boss here in Berlin took him along to the first meeting for a 25 million euro project at the charite. He seems to want to keep dh but if he only offers contracts on time limit (ie 3 years) dh said he will carry on looking for a permenant job, phew at least his braian is working in the right direction!

good work admylin!
I sent you a mail this morning. Sorry I didn't see your mail earlier!

Cadmum · 11/10/2007 08:04

How are things in Berlin?

In our continuing SAGA, Dh has been asked/told to stay here. Still trying to work out the details as the Geneva position involved a promotion and there are no posts here at that level. I am crushed. I really DO not want to be here. I must hope and pray that the NYC position is still in the offing for early 2008.

SSSandy2 · 11/10/2007 09:19

Hi Cadmum,
sending you a BIG cheery wave!
Is it just one just more year then?

Know you were so looking forward to a move, that's bad luck. What does dh think about it all?

admylin · 11/10/2007 11:35

Cadmum, oh no I can realy sympathize. Since dh has got my hopes up for London and Dallas, his boss here is doing everything possible to make him stay on. I will really have to rethink my whole future if he does end up getting a permenant job offer here in Berlin. I WANT OUT TOO!

Oh well, otherwise we'll fight on and cope as we always do or not?!

admylin, I am sorry that Berlin might become permanent. I always have the light at the end of the tunnel because the contracts are only 1 or 2 years. The bright side would be in knowing that you are home and trying to make it feel that way... (Silver lining and all...)

SSSandy, thanks for the post.

I am really unsure of any details. DH was at work until 8 pm discussing the details but he doesn't know much more other than that they 'NEED' him to decline the promotion and stay in Vienna because his boss is leaving before the end of October and they need the continuity.

My older two children don't even have a place at school as of November 1... I have not registered ds2 in school at all this year because it seemed rather cruel to get him settled for only 2 months only to have him move. I am feeling really irritated by the lack of consideration the organization has shown our family since day one. I was already upset about moving in the middle of the school year for a position that has been vacant for months but this is really too much.

Thank heavens our landlord has not found a suitable tenant to replace us or we would have to look for a new house too!
