While the rest of the world is sleeping, can we deal with our own pressing issues..... like....
did they ever tell that girl in the BB house her dad had died?

and are bonds knickers any good?

dh has his citizenship ceremony tonight so not looking forward to dragging out three little ones in the rain BUT they will enjoy being out at night in the dark!!

eidsvold · 06/06/2007 05:36

ghosty · 06/06/2007 07:20

In particular Bonds bog leg hipsters, preferably in green

ghosty · 06/06/2007 07:32

Ok ... I got a gripe with school! What should I do ladies?

DS came home yesterday all full of excitement because they had made jelly at school, all in individual cups that were put in the canteen fridge to take home today when ready.
So, today he comes out of school. I could tell something was wrong. He as doing that 'manly' thing boys learn so young, swallowing hard and not looking at me - pale face, red eyes, blinking a lot. I could tell my boy was upset. He refused to talk about it. But on the walk home, when he was sure there were no other children to see his tears he dissolved. His jelly had disappeared . They were all given out and his wasn't on the tray . He is adamant he named his clearly. There was some dispute as to who the last couple belonged to but they were given to two other boys who couldn't find theirs either.
Ok, so the jelly was lost. It was a jelly. No big deal right?
But I am upset about how it seems the teacher handled it. DS was made to feel he was in trouble and sent off to get his bag to go home (it was home time anyway) when everyone else was tucking in to their jelly. I asked if the teacher said she was sorry, that he could have another go to make another one, that she would see if she could find it ... but no he said he was just left there without a jelly and told to get his stuff.
Would you ...
a) Go marching into school to have a go?
b) Tell him never mind, and make a jelly at home to make up for it, after giving him a large helping of chocolate cake for afternoon tea?
c) Write a letter to the teacher in the morning to express your displeasure at the situation?
d) All of the above?

eidsvold · 06/06/2007 08:48

speak to teacher letting her know how upset ds was and how he felt he was in trouble - stress that part that he thought he was in trouble and so came home upset. At home - make a jelly and choc cake!!

eidsvold · 06/06/2007 08:50

go from the tack of how disappointed he was etc iyswim.

ghosty · 06/06/2007 10:06

Yes, that is what I thought eids. I felt like marching in there but I didn't. He got lots of soothing sounds from me and a large slice of chocolate cake before we made jelly at home.
I thought I might write a little note to say how disappointed he was ....

arfishy · 06/06/2007 10:17

I would have a quiet word with the teacher to find out what happened and just let her know without recrminations that he was very upset and see what happens.

Re the bonds - I'm wearing some today . Despite having spent the last 6 months on WWW's boot camp I still have an ample backside that cannot at all deal with bog leg.

However, I love bonds. I especherly love their little stripy babygros. [pine]

arfishy · 06/06/2007 10:24

Rats. Composed message then went off to dress 8 teddies in fairy outfits for 45 minutes before posting.

Glad you were able to soothe him Ghosty. These things are terribly important. My 20yo DSS would probably be just the same if somebody pinched his kebab

robinpud · 06/06/2007 10:56

Poor ds ghosty. That's not a nice thing to happen. I would seethe overnight and wake up tomorrow feeling more sanguine about it. In passing I would say to the teacher, out of his ear shot that he was gutted about the jelly and let the comment hang. She will know she could have handled it better and you will know that you didn't let it go unnoticed or made too much of a fuss about it.
Dd has to go to Canberra tomorrow.. has to be at school for 6.30am. It's the one where they have breakfast and tea at Macca's. I started a thread which got a bit contentious about it. Probably my only controversial thread!!

LOL ... remember that Mcds thread ... he he he

Thanks for advice girls, have decided to speak to teach in the morning ...

Also found out that she is off for Long Service Leave for a term next term. So that means that by the end of Grade 2 DS will have had 3 teachers in a year (1 term with teacher in NZ, 1 term with current teacher, 1 term with replacement temp teacher, 1 term with current teacher) ... hmmmmmmmmm
Ho hum.

robinpud · 06/06/2007 11:31

Perhaps she will be standing at thew door cluthing a 3 striped jelly as compensation!

anyway I have a date with Doctor House and then must pack breakfast, morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea for dd. She doesn't want anything from Macca's for breakfast so has cereal and milk to eat somewhere quiet. She will be having macca's for tea though although don't think nuggets and fries will sustain her for long!

good luck Ghosty!

Will let you know how it goes ...
Hope dd enjoys her day robin

DCnatchsunhill ... would LOVE to meet up ...

Mondays and Tuesdays good for me ... have all day free ... but will need to be back for 3.30pm to pick up DS ... Am still a bit unconfident with how long it may take to get somewhere from where we live.

email is ghostyandmeg(at)bigpond(dot)com if you want to email me to make plans

eidsvold · 06/06/2007 13:19

just back from dh's citizenship ceremony - the dds were good - they got a bit antsy towards the end but they did so well. Me - I had to try hard not to giggle and break into adam hills version of advance australia fair when it came time to sing the anthem!!

for those of you who missed it

robin - i missed that thread but maccas for breakfast and dinner in one day - nah not good.

arfisy - i have a mixture of bonds hipsters - boy legged and rounded sort of leg and then the high cut sort of leg. Tell you I got some nice undies from Myer when they had a sale - soho - very comfy - nice fabric - feels so soft!! But good old cotton for summery comfort!!

ghosty · 07/06/2007 00:41

Hurrah for your dh eidsvold

Spoke to teacher this morning ... she was very apologetic and made suitable 'poor lad' noises, coupled with 'it wasn't meant that way' sounds ...
She didn't say what she was going to do about it but she agreed with me that it was not nice for DS to feel brushed off like he did.
I'll ask DS what, if anything, was said to him at school when he gets home. He had jelly for breakfast

....AFTER having sensible bowl of porridge i might add

Who would like to tell me what a Medicare card is and what does one do with it?

Ta xxx

Hi Ghosty,
Just back in from the pre-school run, so I'll e-mail you tonight. Thought your jelly situation was crapola - my DS would have been so upset.

DH has just jacked his job in and so we're having a mad flurry around to try and find something. Might have to go back to work, as I've got a better chance of finding something quickly. But that's really sad, as I was enjoying being at home with DCs.

And our English house sale is due to complete next week - hurrah -so we can finally start to settle down after a year of renting. Hate having to 'police' the children every time they get boisterous, so that they don't dirty the walls, dent the timber floor etc etc. We just want a scabby old house that we can mess up constantly...but it will be ours again

suzywong · 07/06/2007 03:57

that's greatnews ofr yourdh, eids

ghosty, I really do mean and origami convention. And yes of course we'll take up your kind offer of a bed for the weekend, thank you very much

hello dc

eidsvold · 07/06/2007 04:01

what bloss said - if you go to your medicare office - take along passports with visa etc in and they will help you apply for one. With dh it was done online. You then get given your medicare no. to use until your card arrives.

suzy - have you got your citizenship yet??

sandcastles · 07/06/2007 06:07

Hello.....

I am out of action at the moment. Stooopid laptop decided it needed a holiday & stoped working....fecking this isn't even a yr old!!!

So it is at the pc hospital, should have it back at weekend...

BETTER have it back at weekend!

ghosty · 07/06/2007 07:34

Suzy - just let me know which weekend and we'll sort it ... Welcome any time ...
Re. medicare card, just found out I need 2 things to prove I live here (things with addresses on) - so far got a bank statement but that's it ... all bills etc in DH's name as he set it all up when he got here in September. Hmmm, will get DH to call the utilities and put me on ... if that can happen that is - had to jump through hoops to turn DH's bank account into a joint one ...

robinpud · 07/06/2007 09:40

Ghosty- make sure you get two cards so you have one and dh has one. We took a letter explaining who we were from dh's employer and passports and got medicare card fine. Allow 15 minutes for form filling.

I got drenched today. They don't have storm drains on the side of the road just massive puddles.

Just paid for the lfights home
