Which passports should children have?

Hi. My children were all born in Italy and have dual British / Italian nationality (I think!) DS1 has an Italian passport. The youngest two don't have passports and I don't know which to get! Is it a disadvantage for them to get British only? Do they need to get both? Should I be taking Brexit into account? (People keep telling me I should get the UK ones while I can - but surely that won't change?) I am a UK citizen in the process of applying for dual citizenship and DH is Italian btw. Help!

My younger kids have German children's passports which cost €11 and are so straight forward to get (you go in to the town hall and ask, they know who you are by sight check your details on the computer because everyone is registered, hand over a photo, come back the following Thursday to collect).

Eldest had a UK passport as a baby but now has an ID card as she'd have been too old for a kids one before it expired.

I travel on my German IDcard within Europe, and in fact last time I went to the UK travelled on that too, though I do still have a UK passport.

We've never had any problems travelling on ID cards. Getting British passports from abroad is a big hassle multiple times more expensive, so I can't actually see any point. All my kids are automatically UK citizens as I'm British born to British patents.

I am in the same situation as you Allegretto- and tbh, when dd's first UK passport ran out I didn't renew it for the reasons many have stated.

At the moment dd travels on her Italian bit of paper ID card and I travel on my UK ppt. If I got her a ppt for travel outside EU purposes I'd get her an Italian one I think.
