House hunting always sounds so exciting until you are in the middle of it, and realise that what you can afford, and what your heart desires just don't come anywhere near each other (well for me at least that was always the way!)

Hope Mr Stitches heals nice and fast and without any nasty scarring. Poor lad...and your poor mum, what an awful thing to be "on duty" for.

Good time of year to look at the house then AB. Loads of houses seem ok in the summer with little sunshine etc but at least looking in July you will get an idea of exactly how damp/dark it is.

Just wanted to share a tiny bit of news. I just spoke to my friend back home who is due to start chemo on Wednesday. She's doing so well and is so positive. Still breaks my heart I can't be there for her. She's been out partying all weekend and even managed to get together with someone the other night. Grin She's some woman really.

I just wanted to share that with someone and seeing as DH is asleep, you guys were the next choice Grin

Hope everyone's Sunday was lovely (I got a 4 hour nap after I went back to bed this morning so I can't complain too much!)

That's great

AngryBeaver · 29/07/2013 07:03

That's so lovely vvv, go her!!

Ah wont bother posting a link, as we're not going to bother.
Dh didn't even go in, the garden was so dark and cold!
Well, not really garden, bush with a big dirty stream in it!
Dd said "oh no, this is just not ME mummy!" Grin
We just couldn't love there no matter how great the inside is.

We are thinking of floating a house over. But I think you have to have the money outright to buy a section of land?

Not sure how that works.

Obviously we don't have $$$$ savings to buy a section!

The standard of house on the island in our price bracket is seriously depressing. Hmm

Signed the 2 oldest up for Sea Scouts today, I am weirdly excited Blush they will both be Kea's and I've said I'll help where I can, maybe we will meet some nice new families!

Hope ds is on the mend lolly

Frikonastick · 29/07/2013 07:17

Well AB I just googled sea scouts and I think my DD would flippen love that, so thanks!

Floating a house over? I can't imagine it but I'm sure it could be done - at a price. Our friends bought a beautiful house for buttons and infer it onto their 7hectare section....down south. I see cheap houses on trade me that look lovely. Shame it's the land that's so bloody expensive.

Glad your friend is strong Vvv.

dS is ok. Stitches out already tomorrow.

WhatSheSaid · 29/07/2013 20:49

I saw a tv programme where they brought a house over to Waiheke from the city. Apparently it's fairly common - its cheaper and easier than bringing all materials etc to the island. This house was a brand new one built in auckland somewhere but you could buy an older house for, removal - I've seen them on Trade Me for about 20k upwards

I'm not sure of the rules on sections, surely not everyone who buys one has the cash outright? I think there may be different mortgage rules though. Would be worth checking out with your bank AB.

Another one of those days when I miss my family network...

My lectures are at really awkward times this semester, and 2 days a week I don't finish til 4. A friend offered to drop DD1 home on a Monday (DH will work from home) & take her to dancing class with her DD on a Tuesday. Was a lovely offer and has really made life easier - until we realised last night that DD1's booster seat won't fit in their car. Much last minute scrambling to find some after school care for her. And one devastated child when we told her she wouldn't be doing dancing. Had we been at home there would have been about 10 people willing/able to either take her home with them or drop her to dancing. As it is I feel guilty enough that this woman is willing to help out so much when she isn't family.

(That was all just incomprehensible babble, wasn't it. I blame uni - my brain is mush already Shock)

Frikonastick · 30/07/2013 00:52

Glad your DS is ok lolly.

Vvv, I hear you. In order to do my one class a week (sewing) I have had to fork out for a sitter/cleaner because the class is 4 to 6pm. The sitter costs more than the class......

Oh i'm jealous. Go the mighty warriors. Went to last weekends game. Having to listen to it on radio later as at beach with no skye. Deciding whether to take boat out. Looks calm!

WhatSheSaid · 03/08/2013 04:42

We were going to go to free cinema at Silo Park but it was cancelled due to rain forecast (rain hasn't happened yet but think it will be here soon). So took the dcs out on bike and scooter instead. Probably go swimming tomorrow.

vvviola · 03/08/2013 07:28

We're moving DD2 into a bed.

This may be an excellent decision or a total and utter disaster GrinWink

Missing parts to our stair gates hasn't helped preparations, but we have a temporary solution sorted for the moment.

Frikonastick · 03/08/2013 11:35

We went to the movies and saw epic. It was fun :-)

More house hunting (sigh). Maybe Puhoi cheese tomorrow after swimming lessons.

vvviola · 03/08/2013 13:09

Is anyone following the Fonterra news?

(Can't get it to link on my phone, but it's one of biggest stories on the One News website).

It always amazes me (since I've had to keep an eye on it for DD2) the amount of things that have milk products and derivatives in! Like, in this case, sports drinks!

lollystix · 03/08/2013 20:42

Yep scary stuff. Not good for NZHmm
