We were a few messages away from being closed on the other one. Hope everyone finds me here.

I am fairly sure it IS available in the US unless it has changed recently. I don't know if different states have different rules.

mummytime · 30/03/2011 19:52

You might also need Chicken Pox?

giddybiddy · 30/03/2011 21:54

Yes I think you do need that chicken pox too and Heb B, but I think I will be able to get them in England first. Thanks so much.

kickassangel · 30/03/2011 23:53

you need all of those, but can sign a 'waiver'. the school nurse WILL want to see records of previous vaccines & will NOT be able to cope with the differences in dates, in spite of a written translation. (ime)
hep b is a seires of 3 shots. most insurance will cover it

giddybiddy · 31/03/2011 11:22

@Kickassangel, what do you mean by sign a waiver? Thanks

PenguinArmy · 31/03/2011 19:39

waiver: just to say that you know your child hasn't had any vaccines and that they are not responsible if your child would contract anything (i presume, this things are generally designed to cover their arses and stop them getting sued.)

I had my first scan today, it is measuring a few days short of 12 weeks

Grockle · 31/03/2011 20:15

How exciting, PA!

tadjennyp · 01/04/2011 00:18

Excellent news PA!

kickassangel · 01/04/2011 00:40

Congrats pa

Yes for the waiver the school had forms. It's an odd mix of wanting everyone to be healthy but also allowing individual freedom

giddybiddy · 01/04/2011 15:20

Thanks, that is useful to know. I think I will not stress now but sort it out when I get there.... Many other things to stress about!!

jabberwocky · 03/04/2011 17:24

Yes, do the waiver. The mumps vax is no longer available :( nor are any of the other singles. We were able to get singles for ds1 and the first set for ds2 before they stopped making them.
btw, in our state it is very easy to do the waiver but you need to have it in place before registration. It might be worth a call just to see what the procedure is in CT

kickassangel · 03/04/2011 23:25

so PA - how has your boss taken the news & what does it mean for your job? or haven't you said anything yet?

PenguinArmy · 03/04/2011 23:31

haha he was not happy. He knows he can't not renew my contract as he 'can't take my personal circumstances into account' but has been strongly emphasizing the fact that he thinks it will be too much for me to cope with. So he doesn't want me, but is stuck with me as even he doesn't have the bollocks to not renew.

I have been looking elsewhere but haven't been making as big of an effort as I should Blush just adding the final touches to my CV now. The thing is this job pays alright, so atm I'm not prepared to move elsewhere if financially it isn't worth it. So we shall see.

At most, this is a two year job anyway, with the first year ending in June.

PenguinArmy · 03/04/2011 23:31

thanks for asking :)

MmeBucket · 04/04/2011 00:01

Late congratulations for PA!

Thanks MmeBucket

We're hoping to go whale watching next Friday and I need to plan our next weekend away. I was thinking Joshua Tree.

I want to do half-dome, so should do that before I get to 6 months, but DH wants to do so don't know what to do about DD. We were going to go with another family and take turns looking after the kids, but they think they will move soon so understandably don't want to commit. Any suggestion?

Earlybird · 06/04/2011 01:40

Congratulations PA!

Sorry to be dense - what is half-dome?

PenguinArmy · 06/04/2011 02:08

Half Dome

It's a long day walk up a peak in Yosemite Park

kickassangel · 07/04/2011 14:24

how old is dd? would she go in a back pack thingy? i've done some 3 mile walks with quite young ones, then put them in a carrier & do the next bit.
you could do part of half dome, or a shorter trail?

btw - when are you planning to do it? a lot of the trails don't open til May, or even June, that could be another issue.

PenguinArmy · 07/04/2011 16:33

It's a 12 hour day, I've done 6-10 mile walks with her when she was a few months old, but she's 13 months now

Earlybird · 11/04/2011 12:42

everyone must be busy in real life, as this thread has gone so quiet.

We're due heavy storms here later today, with the possibility of tornados. It is typical weather for this time of year. (It was May 2010 that i lost my car in a massive seasonal flood).

Am off to do all errands shortly, as storms are supposed to begin at 12 noon, and last through the early evening - it is always scary to do school pick up in heavy weather.

We had a crazy storm last week that uprooted hundreds of trees. My neighbour had a huge tree fall on her roof. Luckily, it was only on one room, and it was the guest bedroom - so not regularly in use.

Keep us in your thoughts today.

PenguinArmy · 11/04/2011 16:00

Bloody hell. I've never lived anywhere with 'proper' weather.

All the threads seem quiet atm, I think a lot of people are having good weather.

We're planning a trip to Joshuah Tree for the last weekend this month, not that I've looked up what to do there or anything.

tadjennyp · 11/04/2011 19:18

Hope the weather isn't too bad for you earlybird.

Just back from Portland for the weekend which was nice. Went to OMSI which is great and got the dcs feet measured for a change! Sadly dh lost his wedding ring somewhere on the way back, probably in Woodburn. Sad

Earlybird · 11/04/2011 19:42

Phase 1 of the bad weather has passed, and skirted north of us, so not much happened.

Phase 2 will be here in the next hour or so, and is currently looking ominous on the weather radar.

PA - I've been to Joshua Tree - it is so beautiful. I hope you enjoy it. There used to be a funky old motel in 29 Palms that was constantly inhabited by fashion models/photographers, etc who stayed there when they did their photo shoots at Joshua Tree. Wonder if it is still there....

tadjennyp - have never been to Portland, but it sounds a fab city. Glad you had fun.

tadjennyp · 12/04/2011 17:27

Hope everything is ok earlybird.
