I think once you’ve experienced a life changing “ experience” your mindset and way of thinking does alter somewhat. I watched London Ambulance this week ( I know it’s only TV) but it focused mainly on people with MH issues going through rough circumstances. All the paramedics had experienced some kind of poor MH at some point in their life and were able to completely empathise with these callers. They were hearing their stories and recognising them as human beings.

I don’t think it’s being “ touchy feely” I think it’s called humanity.

Forgot to say, my gynae surgeon at the Christie, she has a super LONG name (!) was the only one who ever asked how I was. As in how are YOU.. with a pause and no hurry to yap medical stuff me. She’s a legend!

I completely agree! It makes all the difference being asked how you are and they actually want to know the answer!

@sellotapechicken comments from colleagues?

One of my oncologist duo is more "touchy feely" than the other, she chats more generally, she listens better, it does genuinely feel like she cares (not that the other doesn't!). Honestly, seeing her is a much nicer experience - I know the NHS sees us as numbers & outcomes, but it doesn't feel like it with her. It's a bit sad it's being commented on really, it makes for a better experience with someone who at least appears to give a shit & not be ticking the "patient seen" box!

@Whatevershallidowithmylife I hope you get to enjoy some time in that outside space this week - the forecast is looking lovely!

Yes comments because I have been asking my patients how they really are and actually giving a shit about them instead of just telling them the plan and then ending the clinic. I really do care about my patients and I want to help them, it means I overrun a bit (a lot) but I still speak to every patient on my list it’s just not perhaps as quick as my colleagues would prefer. One of my colleagues told me to just tell them what surgery they’ll be having and if they have any questions to look on The macmillan website Hmm

Look on the MacMillan website??? Well there’s no humanity there! Patients want to ASK questions to a real person FFS 🤦‍♀️

Yeah it was absolutely shocking! He’s a tit in general though. What’re Everyones plan for the weekend ? We’ve been invited to one of our best friends 40th and he’s hired out the local bar and paid for a keg of beer so should be a fun night!!

lucysmam · 26/04/2025 15:58

@sellotapechicken that should be fun (I nearly typed gin instead of fun 🙈).

I've just been out for a few cocktails with my best friend, both had a good moan, picked up a few bits & now home with a brew. Treated myself to some new pj's in Primark - didn't really need them but do go through them faster with the night sweats & it is forecasting hot for the next week.

Need to set up a new savings account off mine - she wants a friend group holiday for her 50th in 2 years, so that's my goal for now. She was very frank about someone (not just me) might not be here, but that's what she wants to do, so that's what we'll plan for!

I'm going to paint for an hour or so now, then think about reheating last night's Chinese & getting an early shower before I flop. Might hunt Vinted for a grey cardi later, and a red one. Grey for a gig I am yet to convince Dd2 she wants to go to, red for VE Day celebrations at work.

Enigma53 · 26/04/2025 17:49

@sellotapechicken enjoy your night! I’m staying firmly in. Bad tummy
and exhausted from chemo on Wednesday. Not even the energy to take my mouldy raspberries back to Morrisons!

@Whatevershallidowithmylife are you okay? X

EachandEveryone · 26/04/2025 18:29

@lucysmam i just got some their nibs from tk maxx everyone goes on about them on here I don’t know why they don’t go online at tk maxx. There’s a good competition I entered for Sam Fender in the gardens in Edinburgh I will give you them if I win.

i have that growling pain in my stomach it’s constant really puts me off eating. I have Indian from last night so I might manage abit of that.

its been a beautiful day here.

lucysmam · 26/04/2025 18:32

Aw @EachandEveryone that's really kind! Sam Fender's on our "to see" list. Still kicking ourselves for not going to an exceptionally local, working men's club, gig he played when he started his career!

RedRosesPinkLilies · 26/04/2025 18:58

@sellotapechicken - I’m away in Pitlochry with friends for the weekend- lovely place if anyone is looking for a break.
Away out to dinner soon. Will post more later in week xx

EachandEveryone · 27/04/2025 08:51

I’m just trying for glasto resale tickets for my friends. Good to take my mind of other stuff and also to clear the constipation 😀 fingers crossed they are the last two of our group.

lucysmam · 27/04/2025 08:59

I need you all to channel "dd2 wants to go to Inhaler's Manchester gig in May half term" vibes for me 🤣. Like a div, dd1 has bought tickets & dd2 didn't actually say she wanted to go 🙄.

“ Is 7k a month after housing costs, enough to live on in London?”

7K ?? WTAF?? Assuming no private school fees or paying into pension pot extraordinaire!! 🤣

EachandEveryone · 27/04/2025 10:30

God that’s shocking it must be a joke? I don’t get paid anymore. After 28 years nhs service I opted to retire and return so I got the lump sum. I don’t know if I will ever beable to go back to work but I’m hoping so. My lump sum since cancer has halved the one time I had a decent amount in bank and I’m gutted but I’m literally taking a grand out a month to pay the bills. I know that’s what it’s there for but it hurts. I’m so lucky to have just got the full pip for ten years because I don’t know what I would do. I’m just not one of those people that could hide my money to get UC knowing my luck I’d end up in jail😀. What I would give for 7 grand a month! If I didn’t have this open wound I swear I’d be back at work by now. Everything is just so unfair for us all.

Enigma53 · 27/04/2025 10:54

I think the poster must be thick! If she has that much money left over each month, one assumes she’s on a 6 figure salary, but she can’t work out what she needs to live on?

Yes, unfair alright. I’d be working now too, if this bd sarcoma hadn’t grown. I was ticking along nicely, got used to breast cancer meds, had my hair, then boom… everything gone pear shaped!!

Are you ok?

lucysmam · 28/04/2025 13:38

@EachandEveryone are you ok? Have they managed to stop it?

Enigma53 · 28/04/2025 14:40

Oh crikey @EachandEveryone have they stopped the bleed?

EachandEveryone · 28/04/2025 15:26

Yes it’s such an awkward position they suspect it’s the cancer as it’s wrapped around my femoral vein does anyone know what they would do for that? I’m praying they won’t stop the immunotherapy. My hb is good.

im so thirsty they are so slow to bring the water

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 28/04/2025 18:00

@EachandEveryone oh dear that’s no good, hope they get their water bottles there soon

I am in the hospice and looking at 5 weeks maximum. Feeling fine really, I have no life if i stay yes, for my loved ones it would be better if i was there i’ll and it pain it seems- nice! I’ve got the syringes driver which is in think for the good stuff. Time for a nap’
