Hi this will be garbled so I am sorry. My DP had a cardiac arrest a few days ago and was brought round from his sedation yesterday. I've woken up to messages from him that the nurse is trying to kill him and I need to help him. I spoke to him and he sounds very agitated. I know that this is obviously not true but wondered if anyone has any experience of what their husband wife partner is like after such a terrible event. Personally I have never been more scared since it happened and during it happening but my strong brave DP sounded so scared. Any one got any advice words of wisdom.

My MIL was exactly the same after she had a heart attack, stents fitted and then sedated. It’s extremely common following sedation to come round being very confused. Please try not to worry.

So glad to hear he is home, I would contact the hospital and ask if he is due a follow up and been referred to the arrhythmia team. You both need to know what to expect from his ICD, what to do if it fires, when to call for medical help, You will be hyper vigilant to noise especially after all that happened.

He also needs to know when he is due a medication review and if he needs blood tests if he is on blood thinners

My Dad was the same after he was in ICU in a coma. Once he was moved to the ward he began having all sorts of odd thoughts; the nurses were going to steal his lungs, they were going to remove his foot because the wheelchair they put him in only had 1 foot rest, there were dragons flying around & a pixie sat on the roof opposite.
He can still remember some of them now (he says he can still see what the pixie looked like) but most he doesn't The nurses told us it was mostly due to the strong medications & then the withdrawal from them.

I'm glad your DH is home & I hope he continues to make progress to getting better.

His follow up appt with icd/cardio clinic was cancelled so need to wait for replacement date. We have started chasing as we need to get the kids tested so we need his genetic testing to happen so we can see if they might have inherited it.

Hope you don't have to wait too long. Agree that you may have some PTSD, not remotely surprising after what you have been through, I think some counselling would help a lot.
