I 'think" you're allowed up to 6 points when you're still in your first 2 years after passing your test so you'll probably be alright. I'd probably pay more attention though, especially when you're still in your 2 years.

At 6 points they revoke the license in uk anyway

Yes in your first 2 years. Or have they changed it from 12?

No, it's 12 normally

Deathbyfluffy · 02/06/2024 16:55

It’ll be fine - you’ll likely be offered an awareness course (which it sounds like you’d benefit from if you had no idea what speed you were doing).
Good luck

Hope it’s ok OP. I used to be a bit of a speed demon but we got a speeding ticket where they said we’d ’ignored previous letters’. We hadn’t because why the heck would you! We hadn’t received them. We couldn’t remember who was driving so DH took the hit and it was a £400 fine and 3 points. It caused me a lot of worry so I do understand. He then got the ticket for 53 in a 50 usually a 70 and did the course so ever since then I’m really careful and use cruise control.

Yeah I think I'll be using the cruise control

That was actually a key message from my speed awareness course, use speed limiters and or cruise control.

Good to hear. Now really take on board what is said - they're actually really informative.

If it's your first time, they'll offer you a speed awareness course.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 07/06/2024 14:59

That’s good. And remember motorways are 70

Bjorkdidit · 07/06/2024 15:24

YY, pay attention and learn on the course. One thing they teach you is how to easily spot what the speed limit is without needing actual signs.

But an easy one for starters, it's always 70 or less, wherever you are in the UK.

And don't rely on your sat nav to tell you, I've seen loads of places where it was wrong and once coming up either the A1 or M1, it told me it was 80 Hmm.
