Hi all, has anyone ever gone through the courts to change your child’s surname , my application is accepted to take father to court, just wondering what they ask me and do I have to take any evidence etc with me?

Sorry for more rambling and musings but having read giantsquidink's post, I am now wondering why they agreed to change my dd's surname. As far as I know he was not quite as bad as that!

Can anyone shed any light?

Having a quick read through all these comments I think it's rather sad that a child is expected to keep an absent fathers name when he is completely absent from their lives. I'm appalled that that is considered acceptable. I am also shocked at the serious reasons for name changes that were rejected. Poor poor children.
My sons dad hasn't bothered in almost 4 years. He will soon be five. So most of his life. He doesn't have a clue who his dad is, why would he, he hasn't bothered. I can't see a more valid reason for his name being legally changed to mine. Giving an absent parent the opportunity to keep their PR is beyond me. It's like allowing a stranger to make decisions for your child

@Giantsquidink your lawyer told you it wouldn't happen but did you take it to court ? Why would anyone wish for a child to carry the name of a convicted pedophile surely that is a huge protection reason to change it
