Court accidentally disclosing a confidential address to an abusive ex.

There are two court orders, including one from the High Court that say my ex is not allowed to have my address. I moved here to get away from him, away from all my friends, changed my car, phone, not on electoral role.

Anyway the court have accidentally put my address (in bold capitals no less) on an order that was sent to him.
What can I do :(

that is shocking. You poor thing.

IMO they ought to be apologising and paying for you to relocate again - but that might not be what happens, or what you want.

Oh btw I got compensation when BT put my (ex directory) address in the phone book.

Thanks Orla ...ironically they also said in the same order that he wasn't to have our address.

How do you know he has been sent this info? Has he contacted you?

It was on a court order that was sent to both of us. I've only just realised. No he hasn't contacted me, he wouldn't be that overt if that makes sense.
What makes it all the more pertinent I guess, is that I've very recently reported him for historic rape. He doesn't know that yet as the police haven't arrested him, but will do shortly. That is what I'm scared about.

Also I'm concerned about bringing it to the courts attention so that he knows...as he may not have noticed it. Though that's probably wishful thinking on my part.

God how awful.
You should certainly tell the police you reported the rape to. And I'd tell the court if I were you. Do you have a solicitor?

Long shot but is it possible that the court order sent to him is blanked out?

I received a court order copy when something bad happened to me. There were several other victims. I'm sure some not relevant to me bits were blackened out. But my memory on this is a bit foggy (blocked out) so it might have been some of the pretrial paperwork.

No it would have been sent to both of us. All the other orders have had babyhammock of confidential address on them.

I'll let the police know though

On a practical note. Contact your local police station, they should be able to put your phone number on high alert (so a car is sent to your address urgently, even if you don't speak when you dial 999) and put restraining orders for the area you live in place so if he is seen in the town he can be arrested. Rather than having to wait till he makes threats/ does something.

But do get the police/court to check that he has been sent your address first or any restraining order would highlight where you are.

I'm self repping officially but my old solicitor is still supporting/helping me and I emailed her last night to see what she thought.

He's representing himself so it would have been sent straight to him.

Oh god - this makes grim reading. OP can you contact the court who issued the document first thing tomorrow? Definitely Police today.

The police have already put an SOP on our address and dc's schools address as the court gave him the schools address officially despite the other order.
But that's exactly what the police said about conditions they could attach to him in that they didn't want to highlight where we were if he didn't know already.

I'm in court again wednesday. Is there anything I should do wrt to the court before then or wait until I'm in court?

Surely the first thing to do is to check with the court that your address has been sent to him & not blanked out?

I'll check with the court tomorrow morning.
I agree all other documents the address is blanked out where needed. But the court orders are designed to be sent to all parties and NEVER have had my address on them. It was always of undisclosed address or of confidential address

But I'll hang fire until I'm 100%

Do you have good police liaison? I felt I could really trust mine, he was very straight and good at offering practical advice. Some real life handholding could really help you work out the practical way forward. Don't let this build until Wednesday. The court I'm guessing will only deal with what they've scheduled to deal with.

The police might be able to get a faster response to verify the address is on both orders. They can also put you in touch with the council for possible emergency rehousing if your address is compromised and you feel this is appropriate.

Do you have a witness protection link person too? I didn't find them much practical help other than sorting out the things like whether I wanted screens or to video link to court. But again it depends on your local team.

Write letters to the school asking for extra vigelance due to a possible breach,it doesn't do any harm to ask them to review security with the DC every so often anyway. The DC and their stability is the toughest thing.

Thanks MisForMum, the police have been great and they contacted the school already and the school have his photo etc and have also been fab.

I'll call the court first thing tomorrow and see if I can get a sensible answer from them.

Moving again would be awful x

My abusive Ex. was sent a full copy of all my DD's NSPCC counselling notes from her Domestic Violence recovery programme....... They we sent by my children's solicitor in error to everyone on the mailing list (including me) - they even have CONFIDENTIAL printed over each and every page.... He got to read everything she talked sabout in 18 sessions........ no one even apologised Sad

Agreed moving again would be awful but please do what you have to do to protect yourselves.... they are fucking idiots and I genuinely hope you cn get some help tomorrow
