billed for smoking in a hotel room

Which we absolutely did not do. I'm so bloody cross!!!

The hotel have taken £100 off my card because the housekeeper says the room smelt of smoke. We absolutely did not smoke in the room, but my partner did make some rollups in the room and put the empty paper packet in the bin, but he went outside to smoke. I told them to check their cameras etc but they were spectacularly rude and obstructive.

They refuse to refund the money.

What can I do?

Please could I slightly derail but use this thread to point out that if someone is sensitive to smell, it certainly does linger in a room. Smokers probably have no idea they stink of smoke, as if their clothes and hair and possessions are some kind of aerosol spray emitting it. Off them, and into the room, it seems to seep into every soft surface.

In exactly the same way, people squirt scent over themselves, and presumably after a few minutes their noses protect their brains by 'switching off' the signal. They might not realise they stink of scent, either nauseating those round them, or even making people ill, increasingly so now that allergies and breathing problems triggered by chemicals are becoming so common.

I once worked in a ground coffee merchant, where the smell was notable right down the road, and made new workers really sick at first. But soon, the employees stopped being able to smell it, almost as soon as they entered the building.

I wonder where Hobbgoblin is now.
