Is the no. of children you want related to the size of family you come from?
hotpotmama · 27/10/2008 21:26
I don't know but am guessing so. Have 3, am one of 4, and still feel there's one missing.
Is this because 4 seems more normal to me because thats what I grew up with or is it just because I am a hormonal woman and would still feel like I wanted another even if I had 5 or 6 (not planning on that!)
Flum · 27/10/2008 21:29
I am one of two and wanted three or four. I think it is because my brother lives abroad and so I am basically without siblings. I think you need a few more....
ceciliaaherne · 27/10/2008 21:34
Am one of four, dh one of two and we settled on 3. I didn't think I could have any less than that. I do get a twinge sometimes for a fourth, but so does dh so not really sure that backs up your theory.
IllegallyBrunette · 27/10/2008 21:35
I am one of 3 and wanted four. I have 3.
PavlovtheWitchesCat · 27/10/2008 21:35
From a family of four. Have one, want another. I can't say, as who knows how I will feel once (if) we have No.2...
CarGirl · 27/10/2008 21:35
I am one of two, we don't really have a relationship and I am fairly estranged from my parents. Ive got 4 dc because I figured there was always a chance they may at least get on with one of their siblings.
Joolyjoolyjoo · 27/10/2008 21:36
I was an only, and dreamed of a BIG family. Have reluctantly decided to stop at 3 (due to financial restraints/ age/ the horrors of pregnancy), but am continually disappointed by my kids lack of appreciation of their siblings!
RottenOtter · 27/10/2008 21:37
one of 4 have 6........
come from a shit family - figure i could do better - much better!
percent · 27/10/2008 21:39
I am an only one. I have six. I had a happy childhood but always wished I had siblings.
RottenOtter · 27/10/2008 21:39
are you done percent?
nappyaddict · 27/10/2008 21:42
i am one of 3 and would like 3 or 4.
hotpotmama · 27/10/2008 21:42
But saying that, its only when mine are being good that I want more, on bad days I dont!
Most of the time they are good tho. And they do love each other. DS1 when asked what he wants for christmas says another baby (completely without prompting!). Must have my genes in there
catweazle · 27/10/2008 21:44
I'm the eldest of 2. DH is the youngest of 3. I wanted 3- we have 5
Peachy · 27/10/2008 21:47
not sure how it can be
I have 4, would like more but know I can't (risks of sn).
yet my sister have 1 and 2.
bil's all one of 2.
Peachy · 27/10/2008 21:48
but I no longer feel I have any missing, ds4 stopped that.
MrsThierryHenry · 27/10/2008 21:48
Am one of 4, and want 3. I know someone else who's one of 3 and has 2 (and wants no more).
I think it's cheap pop psychology meself.
PsychoAxeMurdererMum · 27/10/2008 21:49
kind of an only.......shite childhood TBH.
and so I wanted a big family to ensure some normality.....I have five
and I LOVE IT. I do feel sad tho at times that mine do not feel quite so excited about their brothers and sisters, but then, they get on fabulously 95% of the time, so I cannot complain. I got my dream!
choosyfloosy · 27/10/2008 21:52
if you have no children it tends to be passed on [boom boom]
i wouldn't be surprised if there were some correlation, but not a particularly close one. i'm youngest of three but there's a big gap between me and the others so was on my own with my parents for quite a long time. i think this is partly why having an only seems ok to me.
hotpotmama · 27/10/2008 21:54
Yes but they may be like me. DH is an only so to him 3 is large, to me 4 is normal, so may stay at 3 even tho another would be nice....
In an ideal world, if pregnancy lasted only a few weeks and money grew on trees, then I would have at least ten!!! But then my mum would have done too, so maybe its just a hormonal female thing, wanting more.
percent · 27/10/2008 21:57
RottenOtter, sadly yes I am done! DH had snip in February. They are well spread out too, my eldest is 20, youngest 21 months.
RottenOtter · 27/10/2008 21:58
my eldest 16 youngest 15 weeks!
Lionstar · 27/10/2008 21:59
One of 5, have 1 + another on the way and that is going to be it (ummed and ahhed over no.2).
My sister has 4 though
My 3 brothers have none (and looking less likely they will ever)
percent · 27/10/2008 22:07
Are you done RottenOtter? I really fancied another. Think DH realised and ran like Hell to the Dr .
My biggest gap was between 4 and 5 (6 years). I did think I'd finished at 4! Having the 2 little ones just set my broody hormones off again. I'm glad now DH put his foot down though....I think.
RottenOtter · 27/10/2008 22:12
hmmm not sure!
my body and head say NO to more but heart.....
my biggest gap is also 6 years between 3 and 4
feel like a gran sometimes having a 'second' chance
Pria · 27/10/2008 22:13
One of three, determined never to have ankle biters myself, somehow I ended up with four
Plonker · 27/10/2008 22:13
I am one of two, I have three ...I always wanted four.
Can't have any more now which is probably a good thing because I would still be going and trying to get together a netball team
