i've just had number 3. Lovely homebirth, all well.
BUT altho my labours becoming easier each time and quicker, my babies are getting bigger (7lb 12oz, 8lb 5oz, 9lb 9oz.) and the shoulders are getting harder and harder to deliver.

Anyone else had this problem? I'd love to hear other peoples experiences as i'm already worrying about the next time. (perhaps prematurely as baby only ten days old but worrying all the same!!)

minkersmum my children's birth weights almost mirror yours.
ds1 = 7lbs 15oz
ds2 = 8lbs 8oz
ds3 = 9lbs 9oz.

All my births were relatively good but 3rd was best. No tears, no hospital!!!

DS1 - 7lb 2oz - horrendous 19hr birth, but i was terrified, and it didnt help
DS2 - 8lb 6oz - not too bad, did shopping thru first couple of hours.
DS3 - 7lb 2oz - definately easier, but afterpains getting worse.
DS4 - 8lb 1oz - 4hr labour, 1 push, came out surfing the tide as waters went with him!
DS5 - 7lb 4oz - 3hr labour, got his head stuck on bit of cervix (OUCH!!!) afterpains absolutely horrendous 2days later!

The labours definately get easier - your body knows what to do, just let it get on with it. But the after pains are deffo worse with each one.

DD1 7lbs 6oz induced but ok.
DD2 7lbs 8oz induced but ok. Retained placenta.
DD3 8lbs 12oz went into labour myself and was ok.

Births getting easier and would like more much to DP shock...

Agree with you on the after pains. After DD3 they were terrible. Had them for a good 2-3 days. I can deal with labour as i know its going to end and get somthing nice. But the afterpains are sore and you dont get anything nice!!

Was discussing this with a close friend the other day. She has 3 DDs. All straightforward deliveries, but she says they have definitely gotten increasingly harder at the 'final bit of pushing' stage. Babies have all gotten bigger, too (4lbs, 6lbs 8 oz, 8 lbs 15oz).

I was tempted to stick my fingers in my ears and say 'la la la I can't hear you', seeing as DS was 10 lbs 2 oz and I'm about to have baby no.2

LongStory · 17/10/2008 21:13

Mine have got smaller each time with shorter pregnancies.

DS1 6 13 (40wks)
DD1 6 08 (39wks)
DS2 6 01 (37wks)

The labour all took about the same time - built up during the day and delivered around midnight.

So don't be troubled Mrs Mattie!

DD1 - 8lb 13oz - 14hr labour - Hospital birth.

DD2 - 7lb 6oz - 3hr labour - Hospital birth.

DD3 - 7lb 6oz - 2hr Labour - Hospital birth.

DD4 - 6lb 2oz - 3hr Labour - Home birth.

I had no pain relief with any of my DC's, just lots of walking about, rocking from side to side and breathing.
