Anxious wait between BFP and first scan

Anyone else in the second horrible wait after an embryo transfer? I’m currently 6 wks today and got my first scan due in a week. I’m feeling more paranoid/anxious now coming up to when I miscarried my last transfer.

would be nice to have some others in a same position waiting to hear if viable or not …. Eek makes me scared!

I'm in exactly the same position. I'm 5+3 weeks and have a 7 week scan booked on 6th Sept. But it feels like a lifetime away. How are you feeling? Have you got a scan booked?

Ellenn · 24/08/2023 19:09

My scan is 31st 🙂 so only a week away but just feels so far away! My last transfer I miscarried at 6+3 wks so I think that’s why it’s feeling a bit difficult now …

how are you doing with the wait?

Awww yeah I can understand why you'd be feeling anxious. But try not to worry too much. I found a website that gives you daily miscarriage stats which sounds ridiculous but I found its really helping calm my nerves. Today it said something like 16% chance and after 6/7 weeks it drops so low. So the chances of it happening are so slim.

My last pregnancy when we had our first scan there was no yolk sac or heart beat and its all I can think of now. I just pray it doesn't happen again

Ellenn · 24/08/2023 20:24

Yes! I found that website I think, is it this one? https://datayze.com/miscarriage-chart
I’m at 13% today, it since seeing the risk going down!

sorry to hear about your last pregnancy 😢

Miscarriage Probability Chart

Displays the overall probability of miscarriage - or, conversely, the probability of not miscarrying - based on pregnancy length by day and maternal history.

Hi both, I’m in same position waiting for scan next week at just 7 weeks. Been having bleeding for the past week though so not hopeful at all. I think it might be the cyclogest stopping a full bleed. At the point now where I just want to know.

Have either of you already had successful pregnancies? It’s such a worrying time isn’t it.

Belle26 · 24/08/2023 21:01

Yes @Ellenn that's the website. Its really help reassure me.

@Goingcrazy23 I'm so sorry to hear you've been bleeding. Have you spoken to the hospital? Have you had cramping or passed clots?

Hi Belle, yes spoke to clinic they brought my scan earlier but they won’t really see anything till I’m at least 6w6d really? Annoyingly every time hospital have spoken to me the bleeding has eased. Haven’t done HCG blood tests but still had positive tests. I think I’m resigned to it being bad news now!

How are you doing?

daisychain233 · 24/08/2023 21:29

Also in the same position here! Only 4+6 but already feeling a constant low level of anxiety about the idea of not being able to see a yolk sac or heartbeat in a few weeks’ time.

This is my first successful transfer after four transfers, so haven’t been in this position before, but would obviously be devastated to get one step further and then have bad news.

So sorry to hear about your previous pregnancy @Belle26

ASGIRC · 24/08/2023 21:35

Im not in the wait for the first scan, but Im in the wait for the second scan, and if possible, Im even MORE anxious this time around...

Everything was fine at my 7 weeks scna, which was such a relief. Ive told most of my family now.
But also heard from someone in an April moms group, who lost her pregnancy after the 7 week scan, where everything was fine.
So that made me really anxious.
Then today I had a horrible nightmare, and then learned of a loss of someone I had been sharing my journey with, and Im a wreck.

Next week cannot come fast enough. Id like to think Ill be less anxious afterwards, but honestly, I dont know...

Ellenn · 24/08/2023 22:25

@Goingcrazy23 sorry to hear about your bleeding, it’s so triggering isn’t it. It can actually be normal to have some bleeding though. Could you contact your nearest EPU? They sometimes do earlier scans or bloods if you have had a heavy bleed.

i havent had any successful pregnancies. My first transfer was biochemical and second one was a miscarriage unfortunately 😭 I would be super sad to have to go through that again.

@ASGIRC sorry to see you are anxious too, it’s just horrible isn’t it. I’ve been doing ok up till now but it’s around now I started bleeding/miscarrying last time. I liked looking at the risk chart I posted above, especially for chance of ongoing pregnancy. I felt it was a more positive way to look at the risk although it’s still very much there and a worry for us now. I’d give anything to be carefree and fertile 🤣

Also @Goingcrazy23 ypu can see heartbeat from 6 wks I think as at my last transfer I got to see it! Would definitely keep pestering them!

@Ellenn Oh, I have that chart open on my laptop at all times and look at it more than once a day!!!!! It is very reassuring.

However, and you know this, once you go into a spiral of worry, there is no rhyme not reason. Facts will not help you!

My next scan is also on the 31st!

Im keeping everything crossed for you! 6 weeks already!! 7 weeks will be here in no time and you will ehar that heartbeat!

Ellenn · 24/08/2023 22:34

@ASGIRC dont we all 🤣 I have it on my phone which is even worse lol

definitely can’t reason with your brain sometimes and it’s down right impossible to get yourself out of it. I’m hoping tomorrow will be another day and I will feel nauseous in the morning as usual 🙈

we can be scan buddies I hope we both get good news 🤞🤞what stage are you at now?

OP posts:
ASGIRC · 24/08/2023 22:46

@Ellenn 8 weeks tomorrow, so 2 weeks ahead of you!

I know that having seen a heartbeat, chances of losing the baby are slim, but theyre not zero, and the thought of potentially being one of the few is a bit much...

I also have very few symptoms, so I cant even guide myself by those (though the person who lost the baby that I mentioned in the previous post had HG and was signed off work and everything... So they really dont mean much)

Ellenn · 25/08/2023 06:10

@ASGIRC its always a worry though, I’m sure it will be absolutely fine! I actually think symptoms are so annoying cause I have them and then they go away and it makes me scared cause they aren’t constant all day. Although not sure if they might get worse as you go along 🤷‍♀️ for some reason I thought you were so much further along, time goes so slowly during this period!

argh one day less now to our scans though 🙈

OP posts:
ASGIRC · 25/08/2023 12:47

@Ellenn the only "consistent" symptom I have is slight boob soreness. But that only came about a week ago!
My lack of appetite is a bit better, as is the food aversion and related nausea.
Which is good, cause I've already lost 2kg..

I keep having the urge to test again, but it's pointless. The test will be positive regardless.

Less than a week now...

What time is yours?

Belle26 · 25/08/2023 13:36

It's reassuring to see that not having many symptoms or constant symptoms can still be normal. I haven't had many symptoms. I have the odd cramp and back pain but it comes and goes. I get the odd sore feeling in my books and nips. And the nauseous feeling comes and goes very randomly throughout the day. But I'm someone who often feels nauseous (thanks anxiety)

ASGIRC · 26/08/2023 14:57

I would be happier with absolutely zero symptoms.
I dont mind the boob soreness too much (it is very mild), but the lack of appetite and food aversion are exhausting. I am SOOOO hungry, but cant face eating almost anything.
And Im reduced to things I wouldnt usually touch with a barge pole!
I want my love of crusty bread to come back! And cheese! Right now both those things make me a bit nauseated.

And this week is DRAGGING! I am hoping to feel much more relaxed after my scan on thursday, if everything is still fine. And hope to be discharged from the clinic!

Belle26 · 26/08/2023 18:19

Aww no are you able to eat plain dry things like crackers or ginger biscuits? I hear that can help with the nausea @ASGIRC
I hope everything goes well with your scan on Thursday! Mine is the following Wednesday.im hoping if all looks OK I can finally tell my mum and sisters.

ASGIRC · 26/08/2023 18:22

@Belle26 the thought of those plain things isnt appealing at all. I dont have real nausea, though. It is aversion. So I get nauseous if I eat or think about things I DO NOT want to eat. Like disgust, basically. Which makes eating anything really tricky!

I can eat fried things, mayo, sauces, no problem, as long as I fancy them at the time. I had a steak with a creamy mustard sauce and chips yesterday, which was lovely. But couldnt touch the bread, so soak up the sauce!

Ellenn · 26/08/2023 23:41

@ASGIRC that sounds so annoying! My nausea has hit hard today and been pretty constant so struggling slightly. I’ve not actually thrown up yet but feels like im getting closer 🤢 I definitely found with feeling sick it does help to graze loads during the day so your stomach doesn’t get empty (although I totally don’t feel like eating either so it’s challenging making yourself do it)

OP posts:
ASGIRC · 26/08/2023 23:50

@Ellenn I mean, I am glad I dont have proper nausea, dont get me wrong...

but I do end up having lowkey nausea, as thinking about certain foods makes me nauseous, and if I eat them, then definitely!

Also, the heat makes my blood pressure plummet, and that brings definite nausea, if I cant instantly sit down and drink very very cold drinks. Im gonna have to always leave the house with a thermic bottle with ice water, as Ive been caught out twice in a row now, and it is deeply unpleasant...

I hope for all our sakes this doesnt last very long!!!

Oh @ASGIRC that sounds tough! Hope it doesn't last too long for you.

I'm 6 weeks today and the morning sickness has 100% kicked in. All day I just feel like I could gag at any moment. Drinking water seems to be the only thing keeping it down. If I think about food it even makes me gag 🤢
But I'm trying to see it as a positive. I'm hoping that means my hormones are rising and the baby is growing nicely.

I read today that a lot of women with high hcg have a girl. Which is so interesting to read. I had pretty high hcg levels so now I'm wondering if it'll be right. I guess it is only a 50/50 guess though 😂

ASGIRC · 28/08/2023 17:01

@Belle26 what was the grade of your embryo? That is more likely to tell you the sex than the levels of hCG!!

Sorry about the sickness. Hope it doesnt get worse!

I had low key nausea all day yesterday. Not just the aversions, but actual nausea.
Its gone now, but boy, was it unpleasant!

Ellenn · 28/08/2023 18:07

@Belle26 welcome to the 🤢 club! I like it but at the same time it can make work challenging and a bit harder to get through the day! Luckily I’ve actually been sick just feel nauseous so far!

that’s interesting about the hcg! My levels seemed quite low so the opposite, I really don’t mind though would literally take anything boy/girl 🤣

@ASGIRC i think it’s quite complicated for even gradings although seems standard ivf higher grades are more likely to be boys but with ICSI actually overall there are
ore girls due to manual selection of sperm 🤷‍♀️ So feel like might be hard to predict definitely only got 2 options though! Ha
