What was your outcome? I'm never going into it as I'm 38. Apparently 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 will be normal. Terrified my eggs will be rubbish quality. How many attempts at ivf did you need ? Any advice

Im 40 next month and 8 weeks 5 days pregnant after my 4th transfer. I was lucky enough to have 2 funded rounds on the NHS so my eggs haven’t been tested as it’s not something they do. It’s difficult to say how your egg quality will be until you actually start.

We started our journey last May, first transfer ended with 2 5 day blastocysts (1 miscarriage at 8 weeks, second failed implantation). The second transfer produced 5 5 blastocysts, 2 still freezing.

Its not an easy process, physically my body has reacted well to medication and I’ve had no side effects throughout but emotionally it’s been very difficult. Good family and friends support has got me through and I’m praying my happy ending is in sight 🤞🏼.

Good luck on your journey, if you need any advice feel free to ask 🙂

Most people I see in the clinic are about that age.

I am 40. The doctor said that statistically I will need 3-4 cycles. I will be doing cycle 3 next month. Have only done 1 transfer so far.

1 in 4 seems about right when it comes to egg quality.

Arewetherenow · 24/08/2023 15:41

Hi, I had my 4th IVF attempt at 38.

I took some supplements to improve egg quality. It resulted in higher number of eggs in collection but the numbers that matured/fertilised remained same as before (collection at 37 years of age).

April623 · 24/08/2023 19:17

I'm 40 and just about to start my second round. I'm doing duo stim this time to try and bank embryos then PGT-A testing. Also terrified that I will be left with nothing as I didn't have brilliant results from my first round.

But it's not just about age, it varies massively between each person and results can be quite different between cycles I'm told. Good luck. Nice to see some success stories here x

BEX6 · 25/08/2023 14:48

Hi, im new here :) I am 42 and have just had my embryo transfer 6 days ago. i had 18 follicles, 16 mature eggs, 13 fertilised and i had 12 embryos. i had the 2 best 4 day embryos transferred last Saturday and am currently hating the 2 week wait with everything crossed. i have 6 day 5 perfect embryos in the freezer. Many clinics told me i couldn't try with my own eggs as my reserve would be too low but clearly they were wrong.

Good luck with whatever you decide x

SH998 · 25/08/2023 15:03

@BEX6 wow what an amazing count you must be thrilled with that.

Good luck, the tww is s killer 🙂

BEX6 · 25/08/2023 15:17

@SH998 Hey, I really was thrilled. mainly due to most clinics writing my eggs off before i had even tried due to my age. I am on day 6 of a 4 day transfer and it really is killing me! i just want to test but I'm sure its too early and don't want the disappointment. Congratulations on your pregnancy, when did you do your first test after transfer?

SH998 · 25/08/2023 15:43

@BEX6 thats the problem with the doctors they use a one rule for all women but each case should be treated differently. You proved them wrong 💪🏻

I know exactly how you feel, wishing the next few days away. I had a faint positive on the evening of 5dp5dt. Even thought it was faint you could clearly see a line.

I was petrified taking the test on every transfer so feel you fear. When you looking to test?

BEX6 · 25/08/2023 15:54

@SH998 I have about 50 tests sitting and waiting for me to use haha i don't know if i can wait much longer. if i don't do it tonight, then tomorrow morning will be the day. I am thinking, 7dpt should be a good day? my embryo was a 4-day embryo though so I'm wondering if this makes much difference.

XStardustX · 25/08/2023 16:24

@BEX6 wow that's phenomenal. Have you any advice ? Do you think its down to genetics or credit diet , supplements ect for those fantastic results

@BEX6 wishing you all the best 🤞🏼

Veluwe · 25/08/2023 18:03

@BEX6 I ve had 9 transfers, a lot of them of day 4 embryos. Day 7 would already show the result. In my clinic the test day is 9 after the transfer of a blastocyst.

countrypunk · 25/08/2023 20:18

@BEX6 Bloody hell, that's an incredible result!! Good luck with your TWW 🤞🏽

OP, I've had two rounds. I did my first just before I turned 39. My AMH was measured as 7.1. I got 10 eggs and 2 blastocysts. The first transfer failed, the second stuck but at my 7 week scan it was clear the pregnancy wasn't viable and I miscarried a couple of weeks later.

I did my second round in June, 39.5 years old. My AMH was measured again and had nosedived to 3.6. That was a shock and I didn't feel too hopeful. But I got 6 eggs, 3 blastocysts, and I'm now 10 weeks pregnant after the first transfer. So two embryos in the freezer. Everything looked good at the 7 week scan. Now a nail-biting wait to the 12 week scan!

If you want it, go for it. Gather as much info as you can, and find a supportive clinic that won't bullshit you. I've read so many stories on here from women who were told they were bad candidates for IVF because of low ovarian reserve but have gone on to have babies. Good luck!

BEX6 · 25/08/2023 20:41

@XStardustX I was pretty shocked myself after most clinics telling me it wouldn’t happen & I had low expectations.

im super pleased but now super nervous! I keep hearing people say I’m too old, or my embryos won’t stick, or if they stick they won’t stay. I’m trying to stay positive but I feel the odds are against me.

I can’t say why my results were so good, I’d guess luck. No good diet, no special supplements. Just luck. I hope my luck doesn’t run out & I test positive really soon.

you should do what you feels right for you. Don’t let anyone change what you want. All you can do is try. Xx

BEX6 · 25/08/2023 20:43

@countrypunk Thank you 😊 I have everything crossed. Congratulations on your success! I really hope it goes well. You give me hope.

When did you get your first positive? X

BEX6 · 25/08/2023 20:46

@Veluwe hi, so tomorrow I will be 7dpt4d embryo, would you expect a positive tomorrow? X

Veluwe · 25/08/2023 20:55

Hi @BEX6, yes I believe testing at day 7 (after day 5 embryo) or day 8 would show the result. I see people on the forum getting the result even earlier. What stage was your embryo at day 4?

InThisMultiverse · 25/08/2023 21:00

I was 6 weeks from turning 38 with my last egg collection and ended up with 5 good quality embryos - fresh transfer live birth, 1st FET 36 weeks pregnant. Better than a previous cycle aged 35 when I only got one good quality embryo to freeze on day 6 (ultimately live birth) and 2 very low grades transferred unsuccessfully fresh.

April623 · 25/08/2023 22:01

Interesting to see such great numbers here. I had a very poor result in comparison from my first cycle. 9 mature eggs, 7 fertilized but down to 1 embryo 😕 which didn't stick. Unsure whether to expect similar from my next cycle. No idea if my eggs are rubbish quality or whether I was unlucky first time round. Good luck with your test @BEX6

countrypunk · 25/08/2023 22:06

@BEX6 Don't listen to anyone who says anything negative to you. You don't need that. Supremely unhelpful and unsupportive.

I behaved myself this transfer and waited till test day! 11dp5dt. My partner made me wait. I've tested early in the past and it's either painful because it's negative, but you hope it'll become positive and keep testing, or it's positive and you stress because you think it might be a chemical! So my advice is always to wait till test day. I know how hard it is though. Days 7 to 9 are the worst! Keep busy and loads and loads of luck to you!

countrypunk · 25/08/2023 22:11

@April623 I took an NMN supplement for my latest round: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2211124720309724

You can get it from British Supplements and Youth and Earth. No idea if it made a difference but worth a shot I'd say.

I also took a conception supplement called FH Pro. Expensive but it contains all the stuff mentioned in It Starts with the Egg.

I also had 3 holidays in the run up to the cycle and drank loads of booze, which I don't recommend! I was probably quite relaxed though Grin

April623 · 25/08/2023 22:20

@countrypunk That's really interesting thank you. Too late for my next round which starts next week but will definitely remember this if I need to go again! I've been taking Zita West egg health supplements this time so hoping that may make a difference. And while I'm doing my best to stay away from wine I am doing my next round in Alicante so hoping the sun and holiday vibe will help!! Congratulations on your pregnancy 😊 x

countrypunk · 25/08/2023 22:27

@April623 Ah good luck! Ooh Alicante, lovely. Enjoy some sun and swimming.
Thank you x

I had my first egg collection on my actual 39th birthday. Ended up with three 5 day blasto's, the FET failed. Had 2nd collection in March with a further four 5 day blasto's. I am now 40 and waiting on my next FET, which I think will fall this weekend.

My lining is currently giving me hassle as it tends to be too thin. This FET attempt I thought sod it, drank all the booze and lived life, it ended up being thick enough can you believe it!
