batching embryos for PGT-a, anyone any success?

Hey everyone,

Im 41 years old and thinking of batching my embryos so I can get them pgta tested

Ive had a few failed fresh and frozen cycles with embryos graded 4ab and can’t bare to do another cycle and for it to fail.

Has anyone done this and has success ?

Im also thinking of doing duo stimulation so that I can create as many embryos as possible. If anyone has done this please feel free to let me know how it worked for you ?

I did duo stim last summer. It was a great success for me. I'm 42 with very low AMH. I managed to get three embryos through PGTA and I'm currently well into my second trimester xx

Wildstar · 06/08/2023 16:36

Hi @CR7

That is amazing!!! I’m so happy for you : )
Did you do the duo stim cycle only once ? Or a few times ? How many embryos did you have pgta tested to get 3 embryos. I’m told it’s a 20% chance for my age ?

Im thinking of doing a few cycles to batch embryos. xx

@Wildstar I sent seven for testing, basically all the ones that got to day 5. I just did the one round of duo stim because I got three through. If I had got less I would have repeated xx

Wildstar · 06/08/2023 18:37

Thank you @CR7 I think going forward that is what I’m going to to do. Any day 5’s I’ll get tested : )

Sending you all the best wishes for a safe and happy pregnancy xxx

wildglow · 06/08/2023 21:40

Which clinics offer this please?

What is duostim?

CR7 · 06/08/2023 21:48

@wildglow google it. Lots of info out there that can explain better than me. Only a few places. I used care in Manchester.

contentsmayb · 07/08/2023 09:15

I have done 2 cycles of duo stimulation. Frist cycle had one embryo that didn't work, second cycle had 4 embryos and most came back abnormal and some low mosaic. I think 20% for our age seems correct.... Now thinking that will be doing a third cycle and to hopefully get 1 normal...

Wildstar · 07/08/2023 14:36

Hi @wildglow its one cycle that you do but you do two stimulations and two egg retrievals, so you can have more to pgt-a test. It’s a lot more in terms of cost but if you don’t have time like myself then it’s a good option . A lot of clinics offer it. Google it and it will give you a better explanation: )

@contentsmayb did you do the duo stim back to back ? Xx

No, had them 1 month apart. Really didn't intend this process to be "batching", I was naïve enough to think it was going to work on first try haha.... Turns out, things are not as easy.

hereshoping123 · 07/08/2023 19:00

@Wildstar I'm in the middle of batching embryos! Currently in Prague after doing my 3rd EC here.
First EC I got one embryo for testing-abnormal
Second EC I got 2 embryos for testing- one abnormal and one Low level mosaic
Third EC- currently in the dreaded 5 day wait to hear how many have made it.
Personally for me, I feel it was the best decision for me. I'd be heart broken having miscarriage after miscarriage.
I'm only 37 but my eggs aren't great quality and I don't get many eggs per EC. Max would be 5!
I wanted to do a duo stim but the doctor in Prague didn't advise it, I don't know why. They would have done it in ireland for me, but the price along with PGT-A was criminal

CR7 · 07/08/2023 19:04

@hereshoping123 you're absolutely right.

Pgta was £350 per embryo and that was on top of the pgta price which was 2/2500£ top of my head.

Due stim also mega expensive

Wildstar · 17/08/2023 20:53

@hereshoping123
same here, I feel pgta might be the best option for me too. Hope your treatment went well .

duo stim is incredibly expensive I agree !!! Xxx

It is but it worked for me x

hereshoping123 · 17/08/2023 21:04

@Wildstar thank you. I only had 3 eggs collected so I was awfully disappointed as statistically only 30-50% should make it to day 5! Would u believe all 3 eggs collected became top quality embryos!! It's rare to happen and I'm over the moon as it gives me a better chance to get one back pgt normal 🤞
Currently waiting on those results now!! I did a FET after this EC and I'm 8dp5dt and BFN unfortunately so far, so not looking good. Embryo was a 4AB LLM.
Best of luck for your next cycle 🤞 when are u planning on starting?

Wildstar · 17/08/2023 23:06

That’s amazing news @hereshoping123
3 top quality embryos!!

Your current FET, it’s only 8 days , you don’t know you could test positive in two days!! And the good news is you have some good quality embryos for your next treatment : ) wishing the best of luck 🤞

Im starting my treatment next month, it feels like such a long wait, I’m considering duo stim but the cost is so high, I can get 4 cycles for that price. Just weighing up options… as I’m losing time, so might be the best thing for me . I know @CR7

did it and was successful : )

@CR7 where you on high level of stims for this ? Previously I’ve been on a low dose.. so don’t know if it would work for me ? Thanks

OP posts:
CR7 · 18/08/2023 07:49

@Wildstar
Menopur 375iu daily
Cetrotide 0.25mg

My friend was on lesser amounts. The amount of stims isn't the magic, it's the double process. I was on lower stims than the nhs gave me. It's not a one amount of stims fits all. xx

Wildstar · 18/08/2023 08:15

@CR7 thanks

it’s seems like a more tailored approach. Did your friend have good results too ?

Also with duo stim how many embryos did you get first Stims and second stims ?

I defo want to start banking and just wondering the fastest way to do it.

xx

@Wildstar see below.

5 eggs first round,
8 eggs second round

CR7 · 18/08/2023 08:26

@Wildstar from my friend -

I had 18 eggs collected, 9 that got to day 5 and 5 that had enough cells to get tested. 3 came back perfect, 1 not and 1 inconclusive.

Her baby was born end of last year. She did it before me x

Wildstar · 18/08/2023 08:36

@CR7 thank you , the results are so much better than a normal stims cycles. I’m 41 at the moment how old was your friend when she did this ?

OP posts:
CR7 · 18/08/2023 08:54

@Wildstar I was 41. She was 38 x

Wildstar · 18/08/2023 09:15

Thanks and one last question, how much was your AMH?

thanks so much for this xx

OP posts:
CR7 · 18/08/2023 09:24

@Wildstar 2.2. Dropped from 4.7 in less than a year

CR7 · 18/08/2023 09:25

@Wildstar a different and very lovely friend has really good amh. She has had over 80 collected in multiple cycles and not had anything to transfer. Don't get to hung up on it x
