Hello, I'm starting a June thread for IVFers - I couldn't see one on the board. Please join!

I'm 39 and this will be our second round. The first round in November resulted in 2 blastocysts from 10 eggs. First transfer failed, got pregnant from the second transfer but miscarried at 9.5 weeks at the beginning of April.

Now raring to go again!

Hi @IVFGotThis05 I don't think I did long protocol but I was given norethisterone to make me bleed - is buserelin just an alternative to it? I had to go in day 3 of my cycle after norethisterone for a baseline scan to make sure my lining was thin so hopefully they can do same on you as you'll be around that and then maybe start your stims?

NicHopingForARainbow · 21/06/2023 16:29

Congrats @MAbbott34 8 is a really good number, stay positive x I hope you get good news tomorrow about fertilisation

MAbbott34 · 21/06/2023 16:58

@PB86 thanks- how are you feeling? What day are you now post transfer ? Xx

MAbbott34 · 21/06/2023 17:01

@NicHopingForARainbow thanks, you've been through the uncertainty too and as you say it's such a roller coaster! Just hope I don't have to do another stim cycle again as we can't really afford it! How are you feeling?

NicHopingForARainbow · 21/06/2023 17:31

@MAbbott34 yep, its a lot emotionally and financially! I feel so much better today thanks, a bit guilty about how upset I got yesterday and wondering if that would've affected any chances of implantation but hopefully all the hormone meds makes up for any stress! I went back to work today (from home) so think that is helping keep mind off it. Do you know if your clinic will give you regular updates on progress of the embryos? I'm not sure if that helps or not. I literally heard from mine day after retrieval then not again until transfer day

MAbbott34 · 21/06/2023 17:42

@NicHopingForARainbow a call tomorrow to see how many fertilised then Saturday for day 3 then Monday day 5. If we get that far 😬

b0zza1 · 21/06/2023 20:44

@Gryffindoratheart Welcome, good to have you with us. I'm on my 2nd ever egg collection cycle (6 day 3 embryos from round 1) and due to starts stims Sun or Mon. So will be just behind you. I don't post a lot, but I'm here 😂

@IVFGotThis05 Welcome also. I have only done one round of short protocol and so I don't know about your question. How about doing a search on Mumsnet for 'buserlin'? ignore my spelling! That might narrow it down and you might find out about others on the long protocol that way?

PB86 · 21/06/2023 20:50

@MAbbott34 I’m currently 7 days post transfer I can test Tuesday morning and it can’t come soon enough.

Honeybunie · 21/06/2023 20:56

@MAbbott34 I think 8 is a great number! I keep all my fingers crossed that they were all mature and fertilise for you and that you end up with lovely little embryos by day 5 🍀😊🤞

@NicHopingForARainbow i know what you mean about feeling guilty about being upset which might’ve been counterproductive to implantation 🙈 that crossed my mind.. but then I’m thinking if it’s a strong enough embryo it’ll make it either way 💪 can’t beat myself up over how I feel. I watched a talk from a lady that had gone through ivf once and she said stuff feeling like you always need to think positive and everyone tells you you need to be and stay positive. So you start feeling bad about feeling down or negative on top of everything else. I thoought that was good advice. So I started not to care too much anymore. If I’m down I’m down and then I move in again. Just need to let the emotions out sometimes

Honeybunie · 21/06/2023 20:59

@PB86 I’m a day after you next Wednesday! I’m nicely busy in work at the moment which is good

PB86 · 21/06/2023 21:25

@NicHopingForARainbow i saw or heard something that said if an embryo is capable of implanting it will implant no matter what. You could hike up Everest and if it wants to implant it will. It’s a very emotional process if worrying affected implantation no one would ever get pregnant after IVF! My partner is glass half full where as I can be a bit glass half empty at times. He says it’s been negative, I say it’s being realistic and managing my own expectations which I think is so important and helps me to think more logically about it all.

PB86 · 21/06/2023 23:58

@Honeybunie wishing you lots and lots of luck! Whatever happens, we’ve all got this.

PB86 · 22/06/2023 00:02

@NicHopingForARainbow if you had norethisterone I think you did short protocol. That’s what I did. Apparently some people start stims on day 2-3 of their cycle and can end up injecting for around 20 days which is classed as long protocol. With norethisterone you only end up injecting for around 10 days so it’s classed as short protocol.

LoveDay2023 · 22/06/2023 09:11

Hi all, I’m so happy I’ve found this page! My husband and I have been TTC for 4 years, I’m now 31 and we are at the very early stages of IVF, no previous pregnancies and classed as unexplained infertility. We’ve just had our first appointment where the doctor explained the process, scan and bloods. Next step is the consent forms (hopefully receive in the next couple of days) and then we wait to start treatment! Still feels very surreal, but this page has put me at ease. Sometimes you feel so alone! It’s a really strange one. Look forward to reading how everyone gets on and wish you all the best of luck on your journey!

Honeybunie · 22/06/2023 09:27

@PB86 thank you ❤the very best of luck to you too 🍀We'll get there!
funny you sound exactly like me! I always say "I'm just being realistic" 😝haha. I also had a 'short' protocol with 10 days of norethisterone to downreg, then 10 days of stims.

Hi @LoveDay2023 welcome to this crazy journey! you're definitely not alone! wishing you the best of success and a good start!

IVFGotThis05 · 22/06/2023 11:35

@b0zza1 @NicHopingForARainbow
Thanks for responding :) I've been today and everything is fine, start stims tomorrow! You know after 3 cycles you'd think I'd be a little more laid back 😂

MAbbott34 · 22/06/2023 19:51

@LoveDay2023 welcome! I agree it's lovely sharing your journey with others going through the same thing. As lovely as others are, if you haven't been through ivf you just can't understand. It's so exciting that you've started the process, good luck and keep us updated x

MAbbott34 · 22/06/2023 19:52

@PB86 love that little reminder that an embryo will stick if its going to. Thanks for that, as we are all guilty of being paranoid we have ruined our chances by silly little things!

MAbbott34 · 22/06/2023 19:56

Got call from embryologists nice and early this morning I was so nervous, was shaking all over! All 8 have fertilised so looking good so far! I'm aware there will be a drop off rate and we can never predict the future but so far so good! Have to make a decision about pgta testing on day 3 (Saturday) apparently which makes me nervous. The more I read up the more I'm indecisive about whether to go ahead. Anyone had pgt?

ttcsolomumtobe · 22/06/2023 20:09

Hi all, I have been reading the thread and found it really interesting hearing the process of your cycle. My next cycle is due in about a week and my medication is arriving tomorrow so hopefully to be starting IVF on my next cycle. I just wondered what your clinics had advised as your OTD. In my final consult they advised to test 16 days after transfer date, my clinic do day 3 and 5 transfers but the advice didn't change, also it seems a long way off when I've seen about people showing positive on 9 days past a 5 day transfer so was just curious what other people's OTD was x

Honeybunie · 22/06/2023 20:58

@MAbbott34 fantastic news!! So happy for you. Bet you were nervous. So far so good indeed :) I don’t know anything about pgt testing. Will be interesting to hear what others have to say about it
hi @ttcsolomumtobe in my clinic OTD is 11 days after a day 5 transfer. 16 days sounds a bit long to me

PB86 · 22/06/2023 21:47

@MAbbott34 I really hope it’s worked but if it hadn’t it just means it wasn’t meant to be and I will try and take some comfort from that.

Qwertyas · 22/06/2023 22:42

Just diving into this group - I hope that’s ok guys!

I’ve been on this IVF journey for what feels like such a long time now, but don’t know anyone else personally who’s done it (which can’t be right given the IVF stats!?)

Had my third transfer on the 14th June and now just a few days from OTD!

How’s everyone been doing on the TWW? I find it nigh impossible 🫠 I clearly do not have the patience of a saint!

b0zza1 · 23/06/2023 11:23

Welcome @Qwertyas Good to have you with us! And at such a critical time for you eeeek. I have not had a transfer yet, but just hearing about everyone elses TWWs makes me nervous for you all 😂I know you'll keep us updated, but are there any good distractions or strategies (other than becoming a trainee Saint) that you've been doing?

b0zza1 · 23/06/2023 11:26

For further down the line, hopefully ...
Just saw this link on another thread here and thought it might come in handy one day. I really like the idea it exists even if I/we are a bit far off right now. I don't imagine it is very handy very early on...
