IVF/ICSI/FET May 2023

Hi, I don't think there's a thread for May, not that I could find anyway.

I've just started Norethisterone to bring on AF ready for my FET. I had my ICSI cycle in Feb but was high risk for OHSS, so after retrieving 24 eggs, this clinic decided to freeze all.
Luckily, because I ended up very unwell with OHSS for around 6 weeks and ended up in hospital for a little while!

But I've recovered and soooo ready for my embabies! We're aiming for transfer week commencing 22nd May unless AF comes earlier than planned then it might be the week before. It's likely as I'm on CD46 with all the signs of imminent AF 🤞🏼

If anyone else is cycling in May please feel free to share the journey ✨

@Infertilitylife huge congrats. absolutely fantastic news. How have you been feeling?
@TheBirdintheCave glad you are feeling well and onto the next stage.

Im feeling very anxious about tomorrow. Dont get an update on our embryos today, day 4, they said it would be tomorrow. Going in tomorrow at 9.45am to meet dr and hopefully have transfer. It is a different doctor also, which I am a bit nervous about. Was hoping it would be the same one I have been dealing with.
They asked us earlier in the week if we wanted one or two to transfer, I suppose will depend on what is left and the quality tomorrow.
So anxious that we will go in tomorrow and nothing will be available. Had 3x 8 cell grade 1 embryos and 1x 6 cell grade 2 embryo yesterday, which was day 3. I know drop out rate is 50%, but also have read that even good grades might not develop. This week is the worst wait ever!
Flight booked to go home Sunday.

Congrats @Infertilitylife ! @kingster1 could you perhaps call the clinic to ask at all? Especially if it would help in making you feel more relaxed. Hope it goes ok tomorrow

Quickdraw23 · 19/05/2023 18:24

Good luck for tomorrow @kingster1 🤞🏼

great news on your lining scan @Sj2505 sounds really positive 😊

I’ve had my first scan today, had one follicle way out in front of the others at 17mm and then around 5-6 that were between 10-12mm. They have lowered my dose of the bemfola as my oestrogen levels were quite high. I think they are worried about OHSS.

Done the first certitude. Didn’t really find that one very enjoyable. Not painful, just a faff, and then when I pulled the needle out there was some blood 😣 luckily it stoped quite quick. Made a call to the out of hours number to be reassured I probably just hit a capillary, so then felt a bit daft! I’ve never injected with a syringe like that before so didn’t know what the implications of that were. Back there for another scan on Monday - hopefully the others will have caught up a bit, and the big one isn’t getting too unweildy.

Quickdraw23 · 19/05/2023 18:25

Cetrotide* 🙄

Sj2505 · 19/05/2023 19:38

@Sunflower360 I guess they were doing what they thought was right. Just a shame that was your only NHS round. It's good you're going in with a plan. Might be worth getting some supplements into DH over the waiting period to give his sperm a boost too, every little helps after all!

@Infertilitylife oh wow, I'm so happy things are going well for you. Please let us know how your scan goes 😊

@TheBirdintheCave that's great to hear! When are you planning the frozen cycle? I know you have a holiday coming up don't you.

@kingster1 we'll all be thinking of you tomorrow. I have everything crossed for a smooth transfer 🤞🏼

@Quickdraw23 glad your first scan went well. Several of my injections bled a little after, especially towards to EC. Usually a dab with a tissue sorted it though as it was only a very small amount. But definitely don't feel daft, I think they've probably had every question possible over the years.

@Sunflower360 I also had zero fertilisation. I hope you find some answers after the meeting with the embryologist. Our meeting is not until 7th June, so I would be interested to know what your embryologist says.

@Quickdraw23 It's okay to have a tiny droplet of blood to come out, happened several times with me.

We are going to the Fertility Show in Olympia this weekend. Has anyone been to it before? We are hoping to find some information on donor eggs and adoption to help us move forward.

Good luck to everyone waiting for any outcome in the next few days.

Sunflower360 · 19/05/2023 22:59

Thanks, @Serendipity24. Hope your review in June goes ok, and I'll update following ours next week. We had a follow-up with the Consultant for the IVF today, who simply confirmed that ICSI would be adviseable next time, I'm hoping the Embryology dept will be able to explain more next week, but with only 2 eggs under the microscope and it being our 1st cycle the data is limited and has been put down to 'bad luck' for this cycle. I understand so far that 1 egg appeared to have no fertilisation at all and the other one may have got 2 sperm in it as it had 3 Pronuclei (not sure if anyone else has had this?) and therefore became an abnormal fertilisation as you're only meant to have 2 Pronuclei

hereshoping123 · 19/05/2023 23:14

@Sunflower360 sorry to hear about your results. It's so disheartening. I had an ICSI cycle last year where we had 3 PN . We had MFI so we changed up my partners supplements. Clinic prescribed 600mg of coQ10 and Maca. Along with this took all the supplements from ISWTE book. After 6 months his latest analysis is excellent.

Sunflower360 · 19/05/2023 23:19

Thanks that is really helpful @hereshoping123 His numbers and motility are good...the morphology though is 2% but the clinic were not too concerned about that hence no ICSI...but from what I read that would have still warranted ICSI first time round, suppose it depends which clinic you speak to 🤷‍♀️ He is on 200 CoQ10...perhaps we can up that then

Sunflower360 · 19/05/2023 23:22

If you don't mind me asking, what MFI did you have @hereshoping123? Did the clinic explain why you had 3PN with ICSI?

hereshoping123 · 19/05/2023 23:24

My partners initial results weren't too bad either. All areas were low ish, but no awful bad. The more I've been doing research on it I've decided before next cycle to get DNA frag test done. Kinda wish now I got it done very first round. As the sperm analysis is just like a beauty contest but doesn't tell us about the engine like the DNA frag would. The fertility detective in Insta has a lot of stories on her saved highlights on egg quality and sperm quality which you may find helpful ❤️

Sunflower360 · 20/05/2023 07:50

Thanks @hereshoping123 will look into that

Sunflower360 · 20/05/2023 08:13

@hereshoping123 where can you get DNA Fragmentation tests from? We were considering Create next but not sure if they do it

Serendipity24 · 20/05/2023 13:33

@Sunflower360 we got the DNA fragmentation done at Dr Ramsay's (TDL) in Beaconsfield. They also have a centre in Wimpole Street, London. Don't know where you live, but I am sure many clinics do this test these days.

LittleWeed82 · 20/05/2023 14:20

Just had some bloods and scan today. Apparently i have 7 good sized follicles and will likely trigger tonight for collection Monday. I just need the doctor to ring me to confirm.

Sunflower360 · 20/05/2023 15:16

Thanks, @Serendipity24, with your test results has it helped with guiding treatment? @LittleWeed82 that is good news! Is this your 1st cycle? (Sorry if you had said in a previous message, I cannot recall)

LittleWeed82 · 20/05/2023 15:23

@Sunflower360 this is my first full ivf cycle. I have frozen my eggs previously (have 6 on ice as a back up but results aren't great from frozen eggs so I don't want to waste time using them until my current eggs have been proven knackered. I'm getting older. They aren't)
I have had a chemical pregnancy (a few years ago) and a mmc (in Feb this year) so I'm wondering if it's either bad quality embryos or something else. We shall see how this goes anyway!

hereshoping123 · 20/05/2023 15:26

@Sunflower360 I'm getting my DNA frag test done with my clinic in Prague. But as far as I know most ivf clinics carry out this test 😊

Sunflower360 · 20/05/2023 15:38

Hope it goes ok @LittleWeed82 ! Good to have a back up too of frozen eggs

kingster1 · 20/05/2023 19:39

Hope everyone is doing okay so far. I know some scans and egg collections coming up so good luck to all.
I didn't sleep at all last night but got positive news today at clinic.
Of my 4 embryos, had 2 blastocysts, one morula which they think will be suitable to freeze tomorrow. And a slower developing 4th one that they said was not suitable to freeze but were going to monitor it.
Made a last minute decision to transfer the top quality one and the one not suitable for freezing. Consultant said he would do it too. We don't have any children, hence if twins did occur, would be hard but we would be happy. I think chances are low though as quality was low for the 2nd one put in.
Now doubting myself. Our reasoning behind it was that we wanted to give it a chance as would be lost anyway. After all our work to get to here, didn't want 4th one just discarded !
I hope it will be okay. Consultant said it wouldn't impact the good one if it didn't implant. 😬

Sunflower360 · 20/05/2023 21:18

@kingster1 that is very exciting!

Sj2505 · 20/05/2023 21:30

@kingster1 oh I'm so happy for you!! You're officially PUPO!!
You made the right choice for you, that's all that matters. If the consultant was happy then don't worry yourself about 'what ifs'.. if there was any chance of it having any negative impact they wouldn't have gone with it.
What's your plan now? Resting or keeping things normal? Will you be waiting until test day?

FlapJackered · 21/05/2023 08:58

@kingster1 that's great news! Congratulations! Don't doubt yourself, I think that was a really sensible decision and a good idea to give the embryo a chance. 🤞

@LittleWeed82 good luck! 7 is a great number!

Serendipity24 · 21/05/2023 10:55

@Sunflower360 Not really other than confirming that DNA fragmentation is not an issue for us.

kingster1 · 21/05/2023 11:38

@Sj2505 thanks. How are you doing? Hope you have been feeling okay and everything going to plan?
Currently waiting for flight back home from Czech. Signed off work sick as had terrible side effects of meds but might go back next week. Havnt really thought about testing, really didn't think we would get this far as last 2 times been so disappointing. My husband away camping next weekend and weekend after have family over. They will all be asking what the result is, as they have been supporting us all the way through.
How do people manage not telling people result of test, like close family that have been there everyday with us. Id like to tell my sister and mum, but my husband then thinks his side need to know too. I dont want to tell in laws that soon, regardless of the result.
@FlapJackered thank you. How are you doing? X
@Sunflower360 thank you. Hope you are okay and being kind to yourself. Been thinking of ya. X
