Just had egg collection... Now the wait!

Hi All

Looking to see if there's anyone about who is in a similar boat...
We had egg collection yesterday from our first IVF (icsi) cycle.

My god the waiting is painful!!!
Had a call from the embryologist this morning to say that of the 18 they collected, 15 were mature and 10 have fertilised. Now got to wait until tomorrow when she said we would have some idea about the quality and they can start to grade.

If there's anyone else in the same position, or if there's another thread I could join then do let me know!!

Hi. I had my egg collection yesterday. 28 collected, 26 matured and 22 fertilized. How are you feeling?

AlisonDanuta · 23/03/2023 14:02

Hi @SarahScone good luck on this journey!

looks like a great amount of eggs!

I'm going for an egg collection tomorrow!

This is our 3rd round.
We haven't had much luck with amount of eggs (1st round 3, 2nd round 7 but nothing to freeze and negative pregnancy test)

Hoping for better outcome this time.
I would suggest to be realistic as best to be pleasantly surprised than the outcome crush you down.

Hi @AlisonDanuta & @SadieBarts

How exciting for everyone!!
Great news on the egg collection @Sadie sounds like you've got some super active ovaries going on there!
And @Alison wishing you all the luck for tomorrow. Have your scans been able to reveal much to you in the lead up to your egg collection??

Our embryologist called this morning to say that we meet the criteria to 'culture for blastocysts' which (fingers crossed) will mean transfer to happen on Saturday.
And then the two week wait...and then the scan wait... and then harmony testing wait... it's endless!

Although I have to say, I'm quite surprised at my own ability to take it day by day. That is NOT like me!!

And just because people seem to find it handy to know.

18 collected
15 mature
10 fertilised
9 still going at day 3 (mostly decent quality)
🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼

@Alison sorry, me again...
How have you felt after your collections?
I'm ok apart from a really sore (when moving) stomach. Almost like I've done a thousand sit ups. It's a bit odd but I don't know if perhaps normal??

OP posts:
AlisonDanuta · 23/03/2023 19:19

Thank you for wishing me luck @SarahScone - I definitely need it!

From previous egg collections I was both times a bit sore, quite a bit of cramping and didn't move too much for the 2 days after.
Looks like you have had a great outcome so far! 9 it's amazing! It only takes 1 so fingers crossed!

In my last scan they've been able to tell me that I had 6 follicles growing on right side, plus some smaller ones ( those could be too small to catch up ) and 5 on the other side. Not massive amount but I havr very low AMH currently so happy with the response.
I'm also on the higher dose of Meriofert 450.
I more worry about day 5 as we have had issues before and not had a proper blastocyst. All waiting game now!

SadieBarts · 24/03/2023 10:16

@SarahScone All the best for Saturday. You got this. I overstimulate due to PCOS, which isn't actually a good thing. The numbers will drop off drastically come Saturday (day 3). I am also 39, so quality will not be the best. My last cycle 15 fertilised and we had three 5 day embryo's frozen. If I get the same, I will be happy. Please keep us updated :)

SarahScone · 25/03/2023 13:32

@SadieBarts @AlisonDanuta

The two week window has officially commenced!
We only had one blast today but was great quality so keeping everything crossed and hoping for one or two more to have developed by tomorrow to pop in the freezer.

Trying to keep calm and get through the next two weeks without having a nervous breakdown.

How are you ladies getting on?

OP posts:
SadieBarts · 25/03/2023 17:22

@SarahScone Fingers crossed for you. Out of my 22 fertilised, 21 made it to day 3 which I'm surprised about. They said 1 of them isn't great, but the other 20 are high quality at the moment. If a quarter get to day 5 il be over the moon. Now just got to wait until my proper period arrives for FET.

SarahScone · 25/03/2023 19:52

@Sadie wow!! That's brilliant news!! I have everything crossed for you. It's so hard to be realistic and try and manage expectations throughout whole process but you've definitely started well off the blocks there.
Of our 10 that fertilised we ended up with one 5 day blast (crossing fingers for one more day 6 tomorrow for the freezer but not too hopeful).
I'll post any updates and would be great to hear how you and @Alison get on.

OP posts:
SarahScone · 27/03/2023 22:16

@Sadie how did you get on?? How are they developing?? X

OP posts:
AlisonDanuta · 29/03/2023 19:49

How are you girls getting on? @SarahScone @SadieBarts

We've had 8 eggs collected and 7 mature which fertilised, however had a call that only 1 made it to blastocyst.
Thankfully there was a late development with another one so we have 1 to freeze!
Now 2WW...

SarahScone · 29/03/2023 20:05

@alison that's great news that you had an extra to freeze, must really take the pressure off so very pleased for you!!

I'm ok. This is day 4 post 5td. And as you can imagine the wait is interminable. Im determined not to test til test date which is next Thursday so on the mean time I am
paying attention to every teeny tiny little thing that happens in my body and trying to convince myself it's implantation or whatnot. Whereas in reality it's probably in my head or just the cyclogest. Hey Ho, oh we go!!

@SadieBarts do you have any updates??

OP posts:
AlisonDanuta · 29/03/2023 20:21

@SarahScone yes it did take a bit of the pressure off but al least we know we can reach blastocyst stage with good quality embryos.
How are you feeling with 1 blastocyst? Have you had any late developers? It's very disheartening when you think you will get at least two or three. At last we have a chance so let's be positive with 2ww

SarahScone · 29/03/2023 20:48

No, unfortunately none to freeze. It was a bit of a nasty surprise to be honest because everything had gone swimmingly (pardon the kind of pun) until that point. And then only one to transfer. BUT, it was top quality and they gave us a 35-40% chance. So it could be worse!
Really hoping it goes well for you and for me!! When is your test date??

OP posts:
AlisonDanuta · 29/03/2023 22:49

I agree @SarahScone it is hard to get to day 5 and be disappointed. Been there before and i was very realistic during this cycle so tried not to have my hopes high..
At last you have a chance so that's so great!
My test day is 3 days after yours so on a Sunday. Yes let's hope it will go well, but remember that if anything happens it's a learning curve! Fingers crossed

Hopefulat40 · 30/03/2023 01:51

Can I join? Am 40yo, 3 days post egg retrieval on my first ivf cycle. Got 7 eggs at collection, 5 were mature, 5 fertilized, all 5 now high (grade 1) at day 3.
I must admit I'm surprised to have 5 high grade embryos, at 40 😲😲😲
Now doing the obsessive "does this mean my chances are better than I expected??" Vs "don't get your hopes up" dance.

Anyone gone from all v good embryos to none on day 5? Trying to work out my odds of being really disappointed!!

Argh! Torture!

AlisonDanuta · 30/03/2023 07:44

Hello @Hopefulat40 5 is a good number, so I would recommend to take every stage of this process separately. I've learnt that there are highs and low and nothing is what you would expect. Every step you learn something new.

They say about 1/3 makes to the day 5 but everyone is different. Good luck on your day 5! I found this wait the most agonising. Let us know how you're getting on

SarahScone · 30/03/2023 10:24

Hi @Hopefulat40
That's great that there are so many moving in the right direction, will keep everything crossed for you!

My experience was similar, we had 10 fertilise and 9 went forward, 5 at a high grade. At transfer day we had one top quality blastocyst, but unfortunately, even by day 6 we had nothing for the freezer. What I would say, though, is because it happened to me then it is much less likely to happen to you! Take comfort in the probabilities! I think it's all we've got at the moment.

I'm 5dp5dt transfer today. Upset stomach but not much else to show in the way of 'symptoms'. And I'm pretty sure it's all related to the bloody cyclogest anyway. The day that dawns where I don't need to stick anything up me or in me will be a good one!!

@AlisonDanuta how are you doing?

OP posts:
SadieBarts · 30/03/2023 11:07

@SarahScone everything crossed for you@AlisonDanuta Glad to hear you got a frozen. Mine turned out well, ended up with 4 frozen 5 day embryos. They did expect another, as 9 needed an extra day, all went to embryo but not good enough quality. 21 made it to day 3, but then a huge drop off, but I am very happy with 4. I have a total of 6 frozen now, so hoping I will never have to go through another collection.

How are we all feeling?

SarahScone · 30/03/2023 11:22

Oh I hope there's one in there for you @SadieBarts that's really great news.

I am miserable, stressed and anxious today! The uncertainty of this is torture.

Probably not helped by the fact that I didn't sleep and have another whole week before test date.

Onwards and upwards!

OP posts:
SarahScone · 30/03/2023 11:23

Can I ask what sort of infertility you are dealing with??

Ours is MFI so I'm wondering if that has impacted the outcome at day 5 as I heard there is often a drop off at day 3 with male factor??

OP posts:
SadieBarts · 30/03/2023 14:32

Yes it is male factors. My partner made changes since our last collection, he is generally very healthy and good weight, but cut back more on fatty foods, avoided sauna and jacuzzi, and didn't drink as much (wasn't ever a big drinker) and started male vitamins. I asked for the results and his sample was worse than last July. Told him to not bother now, clearly nothing will improve his. It went from 6.5m count and 30% movement to 6.5m and only 20% movement.

SadieBarts · 30/03/2023 14:34

Sorry I mean 12.5m to 6.5m
