Hi all 👋
just wondering if anyone had been to James cook hospital for IVF treatment and wondering how long the waiting list is right now ?

@Leo2310 are you nhs referral? I’m private so probably not to helpful on times as will be different but wanted to welcome you to thread and send lots of best wishes your way ✨

Jojo922 · 24/02/2024 10:18

@Leo2310 hello and welcome 🤗 I was referred in the February of 2023 and my first appointment at James cook was in the may, it all seemed to move pretty fast after that I had my top of the list appointment in the July and was due to start my first round on that period but then I had a 7 month set back due to my smear showing HPV I'm now on my first round, I hope that gives you a rough idea. I also had all my tests done prior to my first appointment at James cook and I think that helped move things along, good luck to you to 😊

@LS2020 thank you for your reply. Yes we are currently hoping for NHS funding but may end up private if they don't approve our funding. Just out of interest what we're you time frame between appointments as this may influence our decision. Best of luck with your treatment.
@Jojo922 thank you for your reply that information has been really useful. Sorry about your delay hope your first round goes well. Hopefully things will move along well for us with us already having all our tests done really struggling with how long things are taking as I'm not getting any younger.

LS2020 · 05/03/2024 08:47

@Leo2310 we contacted early/mid October and were pretty much sorted before Christmas. We got delayed by a missed bloods and then Christmas and then unfortunately my period was a week early so they couldn’t fit me in. Realistically I probably should have been in for Feb so about 4 months all in. In October we were quoted late Jan to start. If all goes well, we’ll have been done in about 6 months. We didn’t have to wait too long for appointments, generally been the a week or two after we’ve rung up

LS2020 · 05/03/2024 18:23

@Rebeckah you were totally correct - did not wish to go back to work and now need to work tonight to make up my hours 🙃 we are all done though and hopefully ringing Monday to start!

Rebeckah · 05/03/2024 18:39

@LS2020 Oh im sorry, its awful isn't it. Its a shame you have to go back to work.

Ooh Monday isn't long I started my stims on Friday had bloods on Monday and meds were upped for yesterday and today and get bloods again tomorrow. I'll keep you updated.

Please keep us updated on your journey 😊

Armandi110 · 05/03/2024 22:37

Hey @Rebeckah , thanks for the reply and so sorry for my delayed reply too! Wow you are well and truly in the process, this is so exciting - how are you feeling? Thanks so much for all the info, really good to know especially about the mock transfer! How was it with the down reg injections, did you have them every day? Did you feel any different after having the injections? Hope you don't mind me asking.
Thanks, things are moving quite quickly for us now, it seems the first appointment was the main hurdle for us, I'm now waiting for my period to come so I can call up for my blood test! I'm so excited to get started, how lucky are we to have this opportunity. Hope you're doing well and feeling good :)

Hi @Leo2310, nice to meet you! It's taken about 5 months for me. I was referred early October (after going through tests with my GP and then local hospital for around a year). It took a month for James Cook to process our referral and then 3 months till the first appointment, it then seemed to move quickly after that. Wishing you lots of luck in this crazy process and hope things go smoothly for you!

LS2020 · 11/03/2024 09:14

@Rebeckah AF is here and we are all booked in for baseline Weds - how are you doing?

Rebeckah · 11/03/2024 13:52

@LS2020 ooh that so exciting!

I had a complete breakdown last Friday as they have continually upped my meds which scared the life out of thinking my body is just not working. They did bloods and Scan today got some good progression on the eggs, so just waiting for the results from the bloods to see if we continue the injections today and tomorrow then trigger for collection Friday or stop injection, trigger tonight and collection on Wednesday.

LS2020 · 11/03/2024 20:20

@Rebeckah is this your first round? It’s so much tweaking until they know what’s working for you. I’m glad you’re sorted on your dose now - that’s come around so quick though! Are you on a short protocol too?

Rebeckah · 11/03/2024 21:00

@LS2020 Yeah, this is my first round.

I had a call this afternoon, egg collection will be Friday. Keep on 450 for the next two days and scan and bloods Wednesday.

Is this your first round?

Rebeckah · 11/03/2024 21:01

I'm on Long Protocal

LS2020 · 13/03/2024 19:11

@Rebeckah sounds like it’s gone quick for a long protocol :) good luck for Friday! Will be thinking of you - I’m back in for bloods and scan as my levels weren’t low enough today so hoping I went in too early and get to start Friday instead.
it’s my first round at James Cook but our second round as we had our first when we lived in Leeds through IVF

Rebeckah · 13/03/2024 23:32

@LLS2020 I had my trigger injection tonight ready for friday!

Oh I had issues were my levels aren't high enough but got here so I think you will be great Friday.

LS2020 · 15/03/2024 10:04

@Rebeckah hope so! Thinking of you and hoping you’ve had loads of lovely eggs collected today!

Leo2310 · 17/03/2024 21:38

Hope everything went to plan on Friday. So nice to hear of your journey. We still haven't heard anything from our referral but fingers crossed we will be on our journey soon. Good luck to you all

LS2020 · 04/04/2024 11:17

@Leo2310 hope you hear soon!

@Rebeckah how are you getting on? We are in our TWW now and so nerve racking!

Rebeckah · 04/04/2024 11:22

@LS2020 Morning,

Sorry for the MIA, found out yesterday our cycle wasn't successful. Advised to stop all the meds and to wait for an appointment with the consultant which can be 6-8 weeks. Apparently its a 6 month wait between fresh cycles as we didn't get an frozen unfortunately.

Best of luck I hope its successful for you 😊❤️

LS2020 · 04/04/2024 19:05

@Rebeckah oh I’m so sorry to hear that. Hope you’re taking lots of care of yourself ❤️

how frustrating on the wait - I didn’t realise it was so long between fresh cycles! What stage of funding are you at?

LS2020 · 10/04/2024 14:06

@Rebeckah unfortunately we are out too! Won’t get a follow up til test date next week. Curious to what the private wait times are, will have to see!

Rebeckah · 10/04/2024 14:27

@LS2020 I have no idea we never discussed the funding, im assuming we were granted it and got 3 rounds as this was discussed.

Yeah it's awful, I hope everything works out for you. I'll keep you updated but they are terrible at answering emails so just waiting on our appointment.

The bleed following stopping the medication came on Saturday and finished in Tuesday so seemed normal length but not normal constancy.

Good luck!

Leo2310 · 11/04/2024 09:55

So sorry to read that you weren't successful. We have our first appointment on Monday so starting to feel anxious about it now. Hopefully they will be able to give us so idea of how long between the appointment, funding approval and the top of the waiting list.

LS2020 · 11/04/2024 19:03

@Rebeckah ah yes you should be fine! I tend to ring and leave a voicemail, they normally come back fairly quick that way I find.

@Leo2310 its such a personal experience, please try not to worry - our first was successful first time which is why we’re now private 😊 good luck for Monday!

Armandi110 · 15/08/2024 22:42

Hi everyone, hope you're doing well - just wondering how people are getting on at James Cook? Has anyone else had any unsatisfactory experiences? I've just been turned away when trying to book my next embryo transfer because they haven't prepared the plan in time - so upset and disappointed.

Since our referral last year, our progress with them has been very slow and frustrating, and has been marred by a series of mistakes and delays on their part. I've only had one attempt since being referred, which failed. Disappointed is an understatement and after being messed around so much we are now looking at going elsewhere.

Hope others are having better luck x

Leo2310 · 16/08/2024 13:59

We are due to start our first treatment in the next few weeks. We have found them to be fine but did find it a little difficult to book my appointment as my husband wasn't available on the one day they wanted us in and they weren't happy at me asking for another date. It's literally the only time we've not been able to make an appointment given and I feel awful but its there choice to put it so close to the start of my period for our treatment cycle. I now feel like I'm putting our treatment at risk of being delayed. Just praying all will be fine as it's still 4 days before.
Our entire fertility treatment has been so slow we first saw our GP in Jan 23 but has actually been better since we were refered to James Cook but can't help feeling we are running out of time due to all the delays. This is likely to be our final chance becoming parents.
Hopefully they will get booked in soon. Maybe ask them for a time frame and compare to others before moving as other centers may want to do further consultations and their own tests before commencing with your next treatment so it could work out that you end up waiting longer.
Good luck
