Hi all 👋
just wondering if anyone had been to James cook hospital for IVF treatment and wondering how long the waiting list is right now ?

@Jojo922 I know what you mean. I was prepared to ask as this has been on going for a long time.

I had to lose 6 stone then covid so been like 6 years.

If you want to speak outside this website just let me know and I'll drop my number 😊

Jojo922 · 09/01/2024 15:12

@Rebeckah yeah same here I've waited 10+ year for this opportunity so with how fast it's all moving now I got abit overwhelmed haha, and yes definitely do that we can keep eachother company through it all.

Hi @Rebeckah and @Jojo922, I've been following this thread for a while and I'm SO pleased you are both really close to receiving your treatment, especially with the delays you have had. Wishing you both the very best of luck in the world🤞❤️ xx

We were referred to James Cook early Nov and are awaiting our first appointment, due end of Jan. Is the telephone appointment the same as the top of the wait list appointment, or a different one? Just trying to get an idea of how long it all might take, the waiting is so agonising. Thanks xx

Rebeckah · 09/01/2024 18:53

@Armandi110 Oh I'm glad we could help. All the information im giving im glad I can help others.

No the TOWL appointment will discuss what type of IVF needed what the next steps are. You will have ID to take with you and a child welfare form to fill in and consent form to sign. They will also take bloods.

Once that's completed the nurses will review yours and partners medical records then ring or email you with a telephone appointment.

I had my TOWL on the 17th October so hopefully you won't be too far behind.🤞❤️

Armandi110 · 09/01/2024 19:38

Ah thank you so much for explaining @Rebeckah! This is incredibly helpful in helping us prepare. Looks like it might be around summer time for us. Wishing you all the best with your journey ❤️🙏 xx

Rebeckah · 09/01/2024 20:58

@Armandi110 ooh that will be nice. Keep us updated and I will update you on everything that goes on successful or not 😊

Armandi110 · 09/01/2024 21:07

@Rebeckah yes please that will be so nice - will do! It's nice to feel less alone in this crazy process 🥰

beehappy19 · 09/01/2024 21:38

@Jojo922 @Rebeckah @Armandi110 i just wanted to say good luck and I’m hoping for positive outcomes for you all. You are in great hands at James cook. I completed a cycle in July on the short protocol and all went smoothly. I was terrified of injecting myself and also the egg collection but all staff are lovely xx

Rebeckah · 09/01/2024 22:05

@beehappy19 Thank you so much! I'm so glad it went well and congratulations!

Rebeckah · 09/01/2024 22:08

@beehappy19 How was the egg collection? As I know you can't have your partner with you and it's under General. How did you feel after? Did you take any time off for it?

Jojo922 · 10/01/2024 00:20

@Armandi110 hello sorry for the late reply, my appointments, first initial one and top of the waiting list appointment then The phone call appointment where all really fast but this was because I had already had all my test ( blood work & scans) and investigations done at Hartlepool clinic. Then I had a few set backs but no fault to James cook. All my dates and letters are at home but it was only weeks apart my appointments.

@beehappy19 Thankyou so much for your well wishes it's so nice to here positive stories, congratulations x

@Rebeckah oh really? mine wasn’t under general it was under local. I expected to be spaced out and not remember much but I remember it all. It wasn’t bad though and it was quite quick, the nurse held my hand the whole way through. It was a bit uncomfortable for a couple of days after though so I’d recommend not working if you can. I went to ‘recovery’ after for a short time and then went back to the room where my partner was. It wasn’t as bad as I was expecting and I was terrified beforehand x

Jojo922 · 12/01/2024 04:36

This might sound like a daft question but when you get your prescription for IVF medication is it just the cost of a normal NHS prescription or is it more expensive for IVF meds ? I did ask the clinic on my last appointment and they didn't know what I was asking.

OP posts:
Rebeckah · 12/01/2024 09:20

@Jojo922 I was under the impression that if you get IVF on the NHS the meds are also part of it so was normal.

Rebeckah · 12/01/2024 10:31

@beehappy19 Oh that makes more sense. With them saying hubby can't come in I assumed it would be under GA, thats a relief!

beehappy19 · 12/01/2024 10:37

@Jojo922 i assume it’s included if you are getting ivf on nhs and you wouldn’t need to pay.
I was private and the medications were quite expensive.

Rebeckah · 12/01/2024 10:40

@Jojo922 I asked and they said its the same as any other prescription 😊

Jojo922 · 12/01/2024 15:51

@beehappy19 @Rebeckah Thankyou, I just read different things online and thought it would be easier asking on here

Hi @beehappy19 and @Jojo922 , sorry for my late reply - thank you so much for the information, well wishes and positivity! It means a lot.
I have also had all my tests done elsewhere but it's still taken almost 3 months to get to the first appointment, let's hope things start to speed up a bit.
Fingers crossed for us all and I'm so pleased to hear it went well for you @beehappy19 😊

Rebeckah · 16/02/2024 00:01

@Armandi110 I'm so sorry for the late reply. So much has happened.

So I called the clinic when my period started, which came late ofc! 😂 went in for bloods, and long appointment was booked for today.

I had my long appointment , and they went through lots of forms, which we got ours via email prior to the appointment to read and sign. Then I had an internal, which is a mock transfer. Honestly, it was a little painful but tolerable. Then I had my first down reg injection. Now have to wait for my next period give them a ring for bloods and Scan to then start stims which will be round 4th March!

I hope things are moving for you! Good luck!

LS2020 · 17/02/2024 09:49

hi all! I came looking for a March Thread as I start at James Cook hopefully from 10th March. We have our last appointment with them for the injections and a trial cannulation early March. @Rebeckah how long did yours take? I don’t know how much time to ask off work

Rebeckah · 17/02/2024 10:22

@LS2020, Oh, so you will be about 3 weeks behind me 🥰

The appointment took about just under 2 hours. We had most of the forms filled in as we got them via email.beofre hand, which definitely saved time. Hubby had to have bloods as they had to be taken within 3 months of starting.

I would take a half day. I felt a bit weird after the trail transfer and wish I didn't have to go back to work.

I'm happy to answer any questions that you may have 😊

LS2020 · 17/02/2024 17:05

@Rebeckah Thanks! Work give me 5 days off per cycle so I’m debating on using one, but didn’t want to use them so early so that helps.
yes we have the forms but they told us not to complete them, just read beforehand so helpful to know that saves time.

ah interesting on the bloods, we’ve been messed around a bit with them, they forgot to do our HIV/Chlamydia ones so delayed us a month by time we got back in and results in and rebooked in with nurse so hopefully ours are still okay.

This is our second round, so I’ve done a transfer before( in Leeds) but that was an embryo transfer so I’d had the day off anyway and can’t really remember how I felt after!

Hi everyone. We were referred to James Cook at the beginning of the week and when researching I found this thread. Just wondering if anyone could let me know how long it was before your first appointment after being referred and how long it was between your other appointments. We've had all our tests done at another hospital so other than some up-to-date bloods I don't think we will need anything further. Good luck to you all
