Pregnant with POI

augustbabypending · 21/02/2023 11:53

I was diagnosed with POI in 2021 and spent hours trawling forums for some hope. Wanted to share my story in case it helps anyone.

Periods went AWOL start of 2021. FSH done at doctors and told it was in menopausal range but I was only 29! Absolutely devastated to say the least.

Had my AMH tested privately which came back at 0.589pmol, confirming my POI and that I was headed for premature menopause. (AFC 1/2) Started trying naturally on my 30th birthday. Tried everything suggested in the 'It starts with the egg book'. Reduced toxin exposure, reduce gluten and dairy, did more yoga, had sex every other day throughout my cycle....

Did one round of IVF in Sep 2022, age 31. Absolutely no response from my ovaries, as expected. Quit the job I hated, went on holiday and started taking NMN.

Conceived in November and now I'm 14 weeks pregnant. Please give NMN a go. It's meant to be anti-ageing. Some women who have been through the menopause have had their period return while taking it. And I know it's near enough impossible, but try and stay hopeful xxx

Congratulations! What is NMN? Would be nice to explain a bit so people can benefit 😊

augustbabypending · 21/02/2023 13:04

@acaciabluebell hey it's an anti ageing supplement: Nicotinamide mononucleotide. There's a bit of info on Reddit and YouTube about it. Some post menopausal women who took it got their period back. I took 724mg daily xx

Congratulations...@augustbabypending

Thanks for tip. I will need to look into this as my amh is really low.

@augustbabypending Congratulations on your pregnancy 💕

I'm currently miscarrying our second (and only remaining) embryo transfer and have been scouring the internet for hope/advice. I'm going to look into NMN. Thanks so much for posting.

@augustbabypending Can you tell me which brand you buy and where please? Finding it difficult to choose, some of them don't seem kosher!

@augustbabypending Congratulations on your wonderful news!

I have just been diagnosed with POI…I suffered a miscarriage in November last year and since my periods didn’t come back properly. After some blood tests I have been diagnosed with POI (FSH level 73.6 IU/L…very high!) which has come completely out of the blue as I had my FSH tested last year and it was normal. I feel very lucky in the fact I have a 6 and 3 year old already but having the option taken away from me to have a third is very sad 😔I haven’t had an AMH test done yet but thinking I will get a private test.
Can I ask what your FSH level was and were you put on HRT or progesterone replacement after your POI diagnosis? I hope these questions are ok to ask x

Hiya. So sorry about your miscarriage. I hope you're doing ok.

Yeah ask away. My FSH was 30something in May 2021 pre diagnosis. 24/26 in June/July 2022 when I'd been on HRT for a few months (Femoston). I took HRT for a few months at the start of 2022, then stopped in July I think. Xx

I think getting AMH tested will just upset you and won't change anything. Have a look at to make a mommy's blog, she has loads of tips to help. I also did a lot of what is suggested in the book it starts with the egg.

If u have any gut problems at all like IBS etc try and get them sorted as a priority as a lot of the women who have POI also have those problems. Or thyroid problems too so have that looked at as well. Don't let the GP fob you off saying you're in the normal range. Normal is not optimal. I hope that helps and good luck.

Also have sex every other day without fail. You only need one egg and because we don't get periods, you won't know where you are in your cycle. But sex every other day will mean there's always sperm there ready to pounce! Xxx

Congratulations! Just what I needed to read, also POI, low AMH and in my 40s.
How long did you take it for before falling pregnant? Was it natural pregnancy or in conjunction with ivf treatment. If with IVF treatment what protocol was it.

So good to see there are stones get to be unturned ! So happy for you @augustbabypending

Summerishere83 · 13/09/2023 07:31

Hello @augustbabypending congratulations on your pregnancy and thank you for sharing your story!

Could you tell me if you continue to take NMN throughout the pregnancy? If yes, have you discussed it with your doctors?

In fact, I also started taking it shortly before the start of my last IVF cycle in August and I'm now 5 weeks pregnant after transferring 2 embryos. I didn't think NMN could have had an effect so quickly, also one of the embryos was from March 2023 and I wouldn't know whether that one or the fresh one has implanted. However, it's possible NMN might have helped overall, not just the quality of the eggs.

Anyway, I stopped all supplements apart from vit D and folic acid plus pregnancy multivitamins after my positive test. But my husband thinks I should keep taking NMN I am just unsure whether it's ok throughout the pregnancy.

All the best xx

Rosequartzz · 13/09/2023 09:32

@Summerishere83 how early did you start taking it before you IVF cycle ? Can you also share the folic acid you were taking

countrypunk · 13/09/2023 11:35

Hello! I would just like to say that I started taking NMN about 6 weeks before my second IVF cycle in June because of this thread. I'm 39 and I have DOI. I got 3 blastocysts from 6 eggs, two of which were 4ab. Best result I've had. I'm now 13 weeks pregnant from our first transfer!

Obviously I'll never know for sure if the NMN helped, but I don't hesitate to recommend it now. I've done loads of reading on it and I'm convinced it's worth doing.

Rosequartzz · 13/09/2023 11:54

Thank you @countrypunk I ordered NMN today. Did you find it also increased the egg/ AFC ?

countrypunk · 13/09/2023 12:28

@Rosequartzz No I didn't find that. I actually got 10 eggs on my first round. But the eggs on my second round seemed to be better quality, which is the most important thing. Loads of luck to you.

XStardustX · 13/09/2023 15:15

Is NAD+ the same as MNM

Summerishere83 · 13/09/2023 17:03

Congratulations on your pregnancy @countrypunk !! Very nice to see the positive development over a few months in the same thread:)

Hi @Rosequartzz sorry I forgot to mention NMN in the other discussion we had, perhaps because it was a very new addition to the supplements I was taking. I first heard about it in the book by David Sinclair 'Lifespan', really recommend it. I had only been taking it for 3-4 weeks prior to egg collection so not sure it would have had such a quick effect, also one of the embryos transferred was from earlier on. But you never know, good luck!!

Hi @XStardustX NMN is a precursor of NAD+

countrypunk · 13/09/2023 17:51

@Summerishere83 Thank you, congratulations on your pregnancy too!

From what I've read NMN can take effect really quickly, in a matter of weeks. So it may well have had an impact for you.

I stopped taking it the day I had my eggs collected. I didn't mention it to my clinic because they didn't seem very clued up on supplements, and I didn't want to be told to stop it!

Summerishere83 · 13/09/2023 21:56

Thank you @countrypunk :)) early days still but every day without a bleed is a happy day! 🤞

It's amazing if NMN can have such an effect and so quickly, really worth a try and recommending it to others.

All the best xx

Rosequartzz · 13/09/2023 21:59

Thank you all so much ! Congratulations on the pregnancies 🥰 just the good news I wish to hear x

badeggs · 08/10/2023 05:08

I'm so glad I found this thread! Had a shock diagnosis of POI recently. Throwing the kitchen sink at supplements but didn't know anything about NMM. Have just ordered. It's comes in 175mg but noticed a mention on thread of 700mg+. What dosage have people taken and been successful with embryo transfers or other conception routes? All help much appreciated! Such a minefield!

Kel787 · 08/02/2024 13:30

Nmn supplement has anyone had success having a baby 27 with pof cancelled ivf cycle due to no follicles growing willing to try anything also high Fsh please help

countrypunk · 09/02/2024 13:07

@Kel787 I'm 8 months pregnant now after starting NMN 6 weeks before our last round of IVF. I conceived on the first transfer. Obviously I don't know if the NMN was the clincher, but it's worth giving it a go I think. There's lots of positive anecdotal evidence on the internet. Good luck ♥️
