Pregnant with POI

augustbabypending · 21/02/2023 11:53

I was diagnosed with POI in 2021 and spent hours trawling forums for some hope. Wanted to share my story in case it helps anyone.

Periods went AWOL start of 2021. FSH done at doctors and told it was in menopausal range but I was only 29! Absolutely devastated to say the least.

Had my AMH tested privately which came back at 0.589pmol, confirming my POI and that I was headed for premature menopause. (AFC 1/2) Started trying naturally on my 30th birthday. Tried everything suggested in the 'It starts with the egg book'. Reduced toxin exposure, reduce gluten and dairy, did more yoga, had sex every other day throughout my cycle....

Did one round of IVF in Sep 2022, age 31. Absolutely no response from my ovaries, as expected. Quit the job I hated, went on holiday and started taking NMN.

Conceived in November and now I'm 14 weeks pregnant. Please give NMN a go. It's meant to be anti-ageing. Some women who have been through the menopause have had their period return while taking it. And I know it's near enough impossible, but try and stay hopeful xxx

@Kel787Was that your first round? If not, did you notice an increase in follicles?

Ive been on nmn for a few months after a failed round of IVF.

Kel787 · 09/02/2024 19:19

@Mac425 it was my second cycle had a cycle in November only produced to 2 embryos had them both put back on day 2 BFN was going for cycle in January but had to cancel due follicles not growing only had 5 and they weren’t growing so will try Nmn for a while before deciding to start another cycle hopefully it will take affect fast , are you thinking about doing another cycle have you seen much of a difference whilst being on it a few months ?

Mac425 · 09/02/2024 19:58

Ah I've read the post wrong. It was @countrypunk who has used nmn. @Kel787 you'll need to keep us posted if it successful 🤞

@countrypunk did you find follicles had increased since taking nmn?

countrypunk · 09/02/2024 21:56

@Mac425

Here are my round stats:

Round 1, October 2022, age 38

  • AMH 7.1
  • Eggs 10
  • Blastocysts 2, 3bb and 5bb

First transfer failed, second transfer successful but miscarried.

Round 2, June 2023, age 39

  • AMH 3.6
  • Eggs 6
  • Blastocysts 3, 4ab, 4ab, 5bc

Pregnant from first transfer, now 34 weeks.

On my first round we did long protocol with 225 stims. On my second round we did short protocol with 450 stims.

So I really don't know what made the impact, there are so many variables. It might just have been our lucky round. But my second round produced more and better quality embryos, even though my AMH had halved in the 6 months since my first round.

The other thing I took aside from the NMN was a conception supplement called FH PRO for Women. It contains pretty much everything mentioned in It Starts With The Egg.

I know there's not a lot of research that backs up the use of supplements to improve egg quality, but I did a lot of reading and decided FH PRO and NMN were worth a go.

Hello all

Here are the details of my rounds too, I did 3 egg collection cycles pack due to POF:

  • 1st egg collection - natural modified IVF (stims from cycle day 5) - 2 eggs, 2 embryos but they didn't make it to day 5
  • 2nd egg collection the following month - modified IVF (stims from cycle day 2) - 5 eggs, 4 embryos, 2 frozen on day 5: 5bb and 4cb
  • 3rd egg collection 5 months later - modified IVF - 3 eggs but only one collected as the others were inaccessible, this one egg became an embryo and made it to day 5: 3bb

I had a double transfer as I had just turned 40 and it's legally allowed. We transferred the fresh embryo 3bb from the last cycle and thawed the 5bb from the second cycle. Currently 26 weeks pregnant with twins, a boy and a girl ❤️❤️☺️☺️🥹

I started taking NMN 4 weeks before my last IVF cycle and it's difficult to say if it helped, certainly wouldn't have hurt. The only one egg collected was the smallest of the three growing at the time, so perhaps if the other two had been collected perhaps I would have ended up with 3 good embryos and it would have been the most successful cycle.

Other than NMN I was taking folic acid, vit D, 25mg DHEA and some of the supplements (also NADH+ precursors) from It starts with the egg recommended for low ovarian reserve.

I know we were incredibly lucky and I'm still in disbelief that we transferred 2 embryos and they both implanted and are doing well so far:)

I'm pretty sure stopping alcohol and caffeine as well as the supplements including NMN in which I believe (my husband is still taking it and after the pregnancy I'll resume that too for its general rejuvenating effects) made a difference so I would recommend NMN to anyone who is looking for advice. Hope it helps you ladies too!

@countrypunk nice to hear your update and I hope your pregnancy is going well ☺️

countrypunk · 10/02/2024 07:59

@Summerishere83 You too - so exciting about your twins. Wonderful! Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy ♥️

Mac425 · 10/02/2024 09:35

@Summerishere83 @countrypunk Thank you both for taking the time to share that. I'll look into FH PRO as it's not one I've heard of. Congratulations both of you. It's very encouraging 😊

countrypunk · 10/02/2024 22:45

Massive luck to you @Mac425
I really hope NMN can make a difference for you.

Daniki · 11/02/2024 10:30

Such a positive thread to read! Can I ask what dosage you took of NMN?

Mac425 · 11/02/2024 15:06

Thanks @countrypunk

@Daniki I agree this post is very positive and gives some hope. I think the original poster used 750g from British supplements

Daniki · 11/02/2024 16:39

@Mac425 thanks! Just looked that site up, going to order it and hope for the best 🤞🏻😄

countrypunk · 11/02/2024 22:37

@Daniki I can't remember the exact dosage I took. I got my NMN from Youth and Earth and took the dose recommended by them on the packet. But I have since read that less is more with NMN - have a google. I'm sure in mice studies it was found that the mice who took the middle dose produced better/more eggs than the mice who took the high dose. Good luck!

Daniki · 15/02/2024 08:49

@countrypunk I ordered from this morning using Apple Pay but realised when I got the order confirmation that my old address was on it 😆 can't get a hold of anyone to sort it out, cue panicking 🙈

countrypunk · 15/02/2024 10:05

@Daniki Oh no! I've emailed them lots and they're usually really quick at responding... I'm sure they'll sort it out 🙂

Daniki · 15/02/2024 11:02

@countrypunk got sorted thank god! Excited to start it, did you find much difference with your energy etc? I have an autoimmune disease and constantly wiped so hoping it improves that too 🤞🏻

countrypunk · 15/02/2024 11:18

@Daniki Honestly no! I know lots of other people say otherwise though. The only difference I found with any supplements is that my normally awful PMT was much better when I was taking a conception supplement.

Daniki · 11/03/2024 12:04

Me again 😂 I'm on my third week taking NMN sublingual powder, I vary between 250mg/500mg daily.

Has anyone noticed if it balanced their hormones?

I ask as I have low progesterone and every cycle I have spotting for about 3-4 days before period starts. I have had none this cycle, and my period is late. Negative pregnancy tests but wondering have my hormones levelled out? Also possible I have ovulated later than I thought, I didn't track with opks this month as were due to start fertility treatment in a few weeks so said we'd relax (😂) for this current cycle!

Clocloxx · 02/07/2024 10:24

I've just bought MNM in hopes to improve my egg quality 🥺 amh 0.8 at the age of 30! 2 Disaster failed IVFs this year never got as far as transfer.
Patiently waiting for my MNM and ubiquinol to arrive before I start a 3rd ivf in October 🤞🤞🤞

Found this post because I was searching for info on NMN. I was not trying to get pregnant. I'm 45 with two children, perimenopausal, cycles very erratic and heavy. A gynaecologist told me when I was trying to get pregnant at 37 that I had the ovaries of a 40-something woman.

Started taking NMN six months ago as an attempt to stave off macular degeneration. Carried on for about 3 months, but stopped because it gave me headaches.

Was using contraception but less meticulously than when younger (combination of condoms and rhythm method). Now accidentally pregnant (6 1/2 weeks)! Make of that what you will, but I hadn't changed anything else about my lifestyle. A few months ago I also started noticing more cervical fluid but didn't think anything of it at the time.

Wow amazing 😮 congratulations! How do you feel? Did you stop taking mnm 3 months ago?

countrypunk · 09/07/2024 20:23

@barefootand45 This is incredible! Congratulations.

Keep us updated @Clocloxx I so hope it works for you.

My boy is 4 months now! Still can't believe he's here.

Thank you to @augustbabypending for starting this thread - I would never have known about NMN if it weren't for you. I hope all went well with your pregnancy.

barefootand45 · 10/07/2024 00:32

@Clocloxx yes, I stopped taking the NMN 3 months ago, so about six weeks before the start of the cycle where I got pregnant. But maybe it had improved the quality of the eggs while they were developing?

I had about eight periods between October and February and none for a while last summer, so was fully perimenopausal.

Feeling very aware that the chance of miscarriage for women of my age is 85% or more, so not sure if the pregnancy will continue, but still think a rather remarkable outcome and would definitely be looking into this supplement if I were younger and had issues with egg quality.

barefootand45 · 10/07/2024 00:37

PS the supplement I bought was from Amazon, made by Nutrality. I found it quite hard to locate a supplement where I was confident that there had been Third Party Testing, so might recommend this one. Read an article that suggested that some supplements had far lower quantities than stated on the label.

On the packet it was recommended to take it sublingually. Not sure how important this is but that was how I took it.

I’m so so happy to hear my post has helped!! I hope you had a lovely Christmas with your son @countrypunk

my son is 16 months now and I still can’t believe he’s here. My perimenopause symptoms came back but I restarted NMN and they’ve calmed down and my period turned up so i think there’s definitely something to it. Hope my post helps someone else xx

Just wanted to add that I also took selenium (200mg every other day) in the three months before conceiving.

According to the GP, my thyroid is fine. However, I asked for a print out of my results and when I properly checked, my levels suggest sub clinical hyperthyroidism so I also think the selenium will have helped.

please get your thyroid checked and remember that NHS ‘normal’ ranges are not optimal! You may still be out of range for fertility even if the GP says you are fine.
