Letrozole delaying ovulation

Hi all,

I'm on CD18 & still no positive ovulation tests. I had a very uncomfortable HyCoSy on CD6 then started my 5 days of Letrozole 2.5mg.

Do you think starting the Letrozole later in the cycle would have caused the delay in ovulation?

Jeez, everyday is just a waiting day! Trying to conceived baby #2. First DD was ivf but recently had a failed cycle so went back to our gyno he recommended fertility drugs because PCOS.

Starting the letrazole later could make you ovulate later. Have you taken it before? Not everyone responds the same to these drugs, sometimes women need a higher dose for it to work and so on.

FETmum · 12/02/2023 08:22

Morning, no never taken this before but have taken clomid years ago which worked but ended in MMC then went onto have ivf. I took this one from CD 6-10 so I am guessing you're right but I thought I would have had a positive by now CD19. Will just keep testing & waiting Hmm. Good luck with your journey aswell.

Did the low dose of clomid work well for you? I think some women can respond to clomid and not letrazole and vice versa. I was OK on the low dose of clomid but most I know have needed a higher dose. I'm not sure if the letrazole is working out for me either as my luteal phase seems even shorter 🤦🏽‍♀️

It's very stressful isn't it. Took three years to have my DD and we are a year in with nothing except one early loss so far second time around. I feel so done with it, but like I have to keep going.

Would you consider IVF again? I really don't want to do IVF. But am wondering if it's the only option. I think I have a progesterone issue. I've got an appt with a recurrent miscarriage in March, but not feeling optimistic about that. Life feels really unfair at times doesn't it? I don't have any friends with fertility issues (all are quite open about things). One has had a miscarriage but that's it.

EnglishRain · 12/02/2023 12:13

I realise I've contradicted myself about women I know re clomid and my friends not having issues 🤣 I've met women via MN and on an online course who have difficulties with fertility. But none of my standard circle of friends or family have had any bother.

Hi @FETmum im trying for baby number 2 too I’ve been through the same as you too conceived with ivf with my first then I had failed FETs. I’m on 4th cycle of letrezole I’ve tried clomid years ago before ivf but never worked for me

Cegbee · 13/02/2023 06:55

Anecdotal but I took Letrozole this cycle and I ovulated 2-3 days later than usual. I also ovulated slightly later the month I had a HyCoSy- maybe it's the combination of the two??

FETmum · 13/02/2023 15:21

Thanks so much for your replies all, so glad to hear from people in the same boat.

We conceived on the third go of clomid but that was back in 2018, that ended in MC so we moved onto ivf & had our DD in 2019. I can't remember the dose I was on.

Last summer 2022 we had two FETs, one worked but another MC then the other didn't work at all.

We recently done another round of ivf, had a fresh transfer then that failed too! Nothing was viable for the freezer. Never want to do ivf again.

So now I'm CD20 with no positive ovulation stick in sight yet. I reckon my body is all over the place. I'll be dancing on the roof tops once I get that blazing positive Wink

Only our parents know about our struggles just personal choice.

Good luck all, WE CAN DO THIS!!

How is everyone today, anyone on TWW?

CD22 for me still no sign of a positive ovulation, I thought these tablets were to encourage ovulation! I always get a positive every month (that's not to say an egg is released). Blood test booked for next week.

Anyway I'm off to cry myself into my infolic 😆😆

I had IUI on Sunday after letrozole so I'm 5DPO now. Complicated by the fact that I tested positive for covid on Monday! Honestly, FML. If I ever conceive again it'll few like a full miracle at this point.

Cegbee · 17/02/2023 05:55

@FETmum sorry you're struggling- this shit is so hard! I feel like all I ever think about is where I am in my cycle, how many days to my fertile window, how many days until I ovulate and then how many days until AF/ I can test. Its so shit!!!!

FETmum · 17/02/2023 08:02

@Cegbee we are in the exact same boat! I'm testing for ovulation like a mad woman! Testing 3 times a day! I finally got my positive last night at CD23! So now I am waiting to test, thank goodness I can distract myself this weekend.

Covid sucks!! What is the IUI procedure? How many cycles have you been on letz?

So last night had some pink spotting which has continued to this morning. Thought it could be implantation bleeding? But what the hell. This has been one hell of a ride this cycle! Period isn't due for another week. (BFN fyi). Anyone else experiencing this on Letrozole? Blood test tomorrow to confirm if ive ovulated this month.

Sweet211 · 21/02/2023 12:28

Cycle day 65 still no periods my last period was on December 19th I’ve always been regular I’ve got 2 cycles of letrezole left and it’s unmonitored I’ve had 2 monitored cycles. Don’t know if it’s worth doing ivf again it’s going to cost me does anyone know the costs? I want my LO to have a sibling.

FETmum · 26/02/2023 11:26

Just wanted to update this thread to say I finally got my positive ovulation on CD32! Moral of the story don't give up testing! Xx

Oh wow have you ever ovulated on own? I’ve got pcos I just DTD every other day from day 11

FETmum · 01/03/2023 18:55

Hey @Sweet211 I don't think so. I also have PCOS, had my day 21 blood test quite late in the cycle because I started the Letrozole on day 6 and confirmed no ovulation but I never got a positive OPK until CD32! Consultant said it would have been a false positive as when you have pcos we have high levels of LH. So will wait for the next cycle & take double the dose.

What cycle day are you? Grin

Sweet211 · 01/03/2023 21:30

Sweet211 · 03/03/2023 08:00

I just found out I’m pregnant after 3 cycles of letrezole my last period was 19th December I don’t know how many weeks I am thought my cycles were longer

Sweet211 · 03/03/2023 10:35

Please ladies don’t give up hope sometimes it does take a few cycles

FETmum · 03/03/2023 21:00

Omg @Sweet211 that is AMAZING!!! Massive congratulations! Will you have an early scan? Third time is a charm! Xx

OP posts:
Sweet211 · 04/03/2023 06:03

I don’t think I do get an early scan only with ivf they do this was my 4th cycle of letrezole. How are you getting on @FETmum?

FETmum · 05/03/2023 16:50

Hey @Sweet211 all quiet here waiting for period to arrive, I'm technically 9dpo and no symptoms! When af turns up I'll be on double the dose. Bet you're so relieved!

OP posts:
Sweet211 · 05/03/2023 17:36

@FETmum trust me I had no symptoms and I think I’m 10+5 weeks I’ll find out when my scans booked. How old is your LO im so glad my LO will have a sibling always gets bored on own. You’ve had positive ovulation! I didn’t even bed ever other day and I used pre-seed lubricant. I’m going to wait for 12 week scan as I’ve had chemical pregnancy before and I’ve had previous loss before I had my LO they won’t give me progesterone pessarries consultant said the placenta produces the progesterone if progesterone was a problem then pregnancy wouldn’t have happened or Carried she explained how letrezole worked. How many cycles have you had? I had 2 cycles on low dose then 2 cycles on 2.5mg that’s 2 tablets I think

FETmum · 06/03/2023 14:27

Hey @Sweet211 I've got 5 more months of this Letrozole and will be taking two 2.5mg a day as soon as this af shows up. My DD is 3 and we would love a sibling for her too. How old is your LO? Last year also had a chemical after a FET. Then the next FET failed to work. Then done ivf all over again over Xmas for a fresh transfer not to work. What a waste of money Angry

10 weeks! That's crazy, have you only just tested? Bet you're so excited!
