8dp5dt BFP but cramping and spotting

Hi all,

I was just wondering if anyone had experienced this and had a good outcome? I've been having BFP since 6DP5DT and the line this morning was dark. Since this evening I've been having red/brown spotting and lower abdo and back cramps. I just did another test and it's still positive but I can't settle myself. My OTD is Sunday but I stupidly tested early. I've attached pics of todays tests to show. Thanks x

My OTD was 11dp5dt and on 9 and 10dp I started spotting and had what were exactly like period cramps. I was certain our cycle had failed and couldn't have been more shocked to see a positive result on test day. I then had on and off spotting for the first 2 weeks after testing as far as I recall. Try to stay positive - for now you're pregnant. Wishing you luck and hoping everything goes okay x

@SarahC1985 I know this is a super anxious time. Cramping is a totally normal part of early pregnancy. It's disconcerting because it feels like your period is coming but it is normal. There's a lot going on in there.

In fact, I'm nervous right now because I am 6dp5dt and DON'T have cramping which has been a sign of pregnancy for me in the past (have done a lot of transfers with different results).

Spotting and bleeding can also be very normal. It's not necessarily a sign of something wrong. There are healthy pregnancies with bleeding and I have also had a miscarriage with no bleeding at all. So there isn't always a connection.

The time post BFP can be really tough - on the one hand it's what you've been dreaming of but on the other you are terrified of it not working out. That's a strong line tho so I'm going to say congrats.

I had this happen 3 times, first two my test then went negative, 3rd time they spotting stopped and kept returning until 13 weeks then didn’t happen anymore and I delivered at 38 weeks. So it could go either way. But with my two early miscarriages my line didn’t get as dark as yours. So I’d say that’s a much better sign

Thanks @BlueBunny23 still staining today but line is getting darker. It's hard to know what's going to happen.

I am 10+1 and have had spotting and a fish of red blood at 6+4and 7+5 I went to A&E and had a scan at 6+4 and then EPU for a scan at 7+5. They seen the bang and a heart beat. I have had a further scan at 8+6 and again all was ok.

Still cautiously optimistic as it's still early but things are ok.

@PMAmostofthetime I'm glad everything has been ok for you. Do they know where the bleeding is coming from? It's so hard getting past this stage isn't it?

@SarahC1985 they didn't know on the first 2 scans but in the 3rd one they discovered a fibroid which was breaking down and belling- it's still there but seems to have settled for the moment.

Thanks everyone. Bleeding has stopped for now. Still testing positive so hopefully it's just a side effect of the meds. @PMAmostofthetime fibroids are really common. I hope you're ok x

@SarahC1985 Glad it's stopped. I'm ok just nervous my next scan is not until 28th September I'll be 13 weeks then but trying to remain optimistic x

@SarahC1985 that's great news. I've also been testing positive since Friday. So it just goes to show - cramping or no cramping doesn't mean anything much!

Tested again today at 18DP5DT and it's good but now fresh red bleeding again. This is so stressful 😭

@SarahC1985 hiya. I'm so sorry you are bleeding - it's so stressful. How much blood is there? It doesn't always mean anything bad. I honestly know an awful lot of women who had bad bleeds and were fine but I know how terrifying it is when you see blood.

I'm going to try to get a referral to the EPU this morning as I have constant pain on my left side that is getting worse. Am terrified this is ectopic.

Not as easy day for either of us. Let me know how you are getting on xxx

Bleeding has settled. I had a scan. They can see a yolk sac but it doesn't tell them very much other than it's not an ectopic. @Janefx40 how did you get on?

@SarahC1985 well that's good news that it is in the right place and they can see the yolk sac already. It's so early. Do you feel reassured at all?

They wouldn't see me today but my pain has calmed down and so have I a bit. They have booked me in for Friday when I will be 5w6d.

I already had a private scan booked for Sunday and the scanning place say they won't scan you if you had a scan within 2 weeks elsewhere. I googled it and it doesn't seem dangerous for the baby but not sure whether to cancel Sunday or not. What do you think? DP was going to come on Sunday but can't on Friday x

@Janefx40 just don't even tell them! I think sometimes pain is a good sign. Obviously not extreme pain but some nipping etc.

I won't feel reassured until I have my 12 week scan and I'm coming out of this first trimester. Because I've been trying so long, I can't even let myself become positive. It's awful

@SarahC1985 will your next scan be at 12 weeks then? Or will you do an earlier one?

I totally get it. My pregnancy with my DD I was literally out of my mind for the first 12 weeks and then it very very slowly got better. This time is even worse having experienced a loss.

Still worrying this is ectopic. Literally all I feel is referred pain in my shoulder. Left sided pain is temporarily a bit better but think I be spotting too. Ugh! I wish we could enjoy this.

@Janefx40 how many weeks are you now? When are you due to be scanned? If you're worried I would always recommend a scan to see where the embryo is just in case

I should have an 8 week scan next week or the week after with my clinic and if things are ok then I'll book for the midwife. I still can't believe that it's going to be ok

@SarahC1985 I'm still only 5+4. This is literally the slowest 12 days of my life since the positive test. It honestly feels like months.

They're scanning me on Friday morning at 5+6 at the EPU. If my shoulder pain gets worse or I start bleeding I will try to go tomorrow. Now I'm in their system it will be easier to get in touch with them.

How far along are you?

I'm 5+5! Tell me about it. I feel like the last few weeks have gone at a snails pace. I hate wishing time away but I just want to be 13 weeks now. I really hope you're ok. How is the pain now?

@SarahC1985 ah yes I thought you were just a day ahead of me. The pain isn't bad any more but it's there constantly. I just keep thinking that it wouldn't be bad yet because it's so early but I can't see what else it is. I usually have uterine cramps with a pregnancy so I just keep thinking that must be why I don't - because it isn't in the uterus. I just have everything crossed that I'm wrong.

I'm so scared of this scan.

Have you had any more bleeding?
