IVF Treatment Side Effects

Hi all, for those of you ladies that are doing or have done IVF in the UK I'm curious as to when your side effects started, what they were and how bad?

I know they tell (warn) you about several side effects, but I'm interested in hearing real life experiences! Thanks ❤

Hi 👋 I was surprised I hardly had any (only a few hot flushes at night for the first couple of days) I was surprised as I’m very sensitive to medication normally and I was on the max dose of ivf drugs due to low no of follicles.
Sure you’ll be fine ! Good luck

IVFBaby2022 · 05/02/2022 12:09

@Swirlyspiral thanks, I'm on Bemfola and am already starting to feel quite nauseous after my 2nd injection!
Our poor bodies 😫

Hi OP, I was on bemfola too. I had a bit of a sore head/ nausea for the first few days while getting used to it but felt absolutely fine afterwards so hoping you do too.

I have actually felt worse 5 after egg collection (currently 7 days) as have some mild OHSS from the ovitrelle trigger. Until then i felt absolutely fine. I currently have bloating and a swollen left ovary which is a bit sore but not feeling sick or anything.

Hope your treatment goes well.

IVFBaby2022 · 05/02/2022 13:16

@LondonladyTTC Thank you! That makes me feel a bit more normal, this is my first go so I have no idea what to expect. We're unexplained so I'm on very low doses thank the lord!

I'll keep that in mind, I hope you feel better soon and wish you all the luck for your implantation!

I was on 300, rising to 375 of menopur, so a high dose but didn’t get any. Of course they need to make you aware but it’s not a given. Best of luck with your treatment.

I felt some pressure after my transfer. As for the meds, I didn't notice too many things tbh. But maybe in my next cycle will be different...

AliceAbsolum · 07/02/2022 12:56

Mild nausea on high stims, tiredness generally. But nothing terrible. Just got to up the self care 👍

nova29 · 08/02/2022 15:56

Hi, I'm on Bemfola too. Today will be 3rd day of injection and I haven't felt anything yet. Unexplained infertility and this is also my 1st cycle.

IVFBaby2022 · 08/02/2022 16:21

@nova29 I haven't come across anyone with unexplained that's also at the same point as me, I'd love to hear a bit more about your progress! I'm on day 4 and start Cetrotide tomorrow alongside Bemfola. I have been very thirsty yesterday and today, but I think Cetrotide comes with more side effects.. Not easy this is it!

OP posts:
nova29 · 08/02/2022 16:27

Me too! I don't know anyone that's gone through this either or is going through it. So today will be day 3 of Bemfola, tomorrow I have my 1st scan and I'm guessing they'll tell me to start Cetrotide too. I'm completely fine, I have been keeping hydrated the only thing I noticed from last night was headaches not sure if it is the Bemfola.

IVFBaby2022 · 08/02/2022 16:47

@nova29 That's so strange, I have to go for a Covid test on Sunday and I then have my first scan on Monday, nothing to monitor in between!

OP posts:
nova29 · 08/02/2022 16:59

I have 3 scans to do before egg collection. My next one after tomorrow is Friday then again on Monday.

IVFBaby2022 · 08/02/2022 17:23

@nova29 I wonder why? I imagine we're at different clinics, I've heard they vary treatment wise!

OP posts:
nova29 · 08/02/2022 17:32

It's to monitor the follicles and see if they need to increase my dosage. I'm at ABC ivf St Paul's x

IVFBaby2022 · 08/02/2022 17:47

@nova29 Yeah that's what mine on Monday is and to see when collection will be! Is that private? We're St Mary's in Manchester, NHS x

OP posts:
nova29 · 08/02/2022 17:55

Yeah it's private. My nhs referral for ivf was taking too long x

IVFBaby2022 · 08/02/2022 20:06

@nova29 Ah that'll be why. We got referred in August and had our 1st appointment and just starting treatment now so 5 months which I was happy with. Good luck! I'll be around if you wanna keep in contact!

LondonladyTTC · 08/02/2022 20:13

@nova29 I'm at ABC St. Paul's too! Currently 5dp5dt, the whole process felt very smooth so hope you have the same experience.

Wishing you the best of luck.

nova29 · 08/02/2022 20:34

@IVFBaby2022 that's a really quick turn around, nhs had told me to do Clomid first for 6 months and then IVF so we decided to go private. Good luck to you too please keep me updates! X

@LondonladyTTC thank you, hoping my experience goes the same as yours, smoothly. Will you be testing soon? How are you feeling?

LondonladyTTC · 08/02/2022 20:59

@nova29 I'm feeling fine thanks. I had mild OHSS for a few days after the transfer but that has all settled down now and it fell over a weekend so I had plenty of time to relax it off.

I tested out my trigger, which left my system around ten days after taking it, and then I caved and did a test this morning and there is a faint line which even DH can see. It is so so early though so not getting too excited until after my official testing day (which rather sweetly is Valentine's Day!)

nova29 · 08/02/2022 21:12

@LondonladyTTC that's so exciting! Praying you get a BFP, do keep me updated x

IVFBaby2022 · 09/02/2022 09:12

@nova29 I know, I was surprised! I did Clomid back in 2020. We're over 3 years TTC now. Took my Cetrotide this morning and it was faffy as all heck. The site is hurting now too!

Good luck @LondonladyTTC!

OP posts:
nova29 · 09/02/2022 15:25

@IVFBaby2022 just gotten back from my scan, I start cetrotide tonight sooner than I thought. 1 follicle is racing ahead at 13mm already! Did the cetrotide make you feel anything else? Starting to get nervous about it x

IVFBaby2022 · 09/02/2022 15:43

@nova29 That's great news! I'm absolutely fine now, it just hurt after the injection. I iced it before hand like I always do so didn't feel it at all going in. I imagine it's like the Bemfola, no problem once you've done it! X

OP posts:
nova29 · 10/02/2022 09:09

@IVFBaby2022 it was absolutely fine! Didn't feel it, I iced it like you mentioned so thanks for the tip!
